infection

5591135 tn?1380168056 S honey, so the cause is MORE THAN LIKELY NOT even infection...cats actually very rarely get an infection...what they get is FLUTD caused by dry foods...this is crystal formation and yes will cause a blockage if not fed a moisture rich canned food!!!! the male urethra is so tiny, if they don't get the required moisture in their foods they become blocked very easily. Vets TOO EASILY prescribe antibiotics....
922030 tn?1243657769 Is she urinating or pooping in the dining room? If she's urinating then, she could have a bladder infection. Cats will pee in unusual places when they have an infection.
Avatar m tn This is a very common problem encountered in dogs and cats. The most likely diagnosis is a bladder stone. Rarely are urinary tract infections so severe that the owner can detect blood. It could be a UTI but either way your vet will need to see her. Expect a urine test and radiographs be recommended. Both of these conditions are quite painful so please seek veterinary attention immediately.
Avatar m tn This disease is much more complex than just a bacterial infection of the bladder, but has similar symptoms. 3. That there is inadequate water intake. In this case there is not enough liquid in the diet to help flush out the infection. 4. That there may be stones in his bladder or crystals in his urine and that he should be on a special diet. There may be a combination of several factors, for instance interstitial nephritis can occur with a bacterial urinary tract infection.
Avatar m tn this than is usually always caused by crystals or less likely a bladder infection. crystals are common with male cats in particular. this means the PH level in their urine is high (6-7 is normal) higher than 7 and they have struvite crystals that form and irritate the urethra causing pain....therefore he is trying to tell you it hurts when he pee's. these are caused by a high carb diet...and low water intake.
Avatar m tn I hate it when Vets give out antibiotics without doing a culture to be very sure there IS an infection present.....its not common to have an infection, only abt 5% of cats. what male cats usually suffer from is crystals these can be very painful its a condition called FLUTD. these crystals can build up especially in the urethra of a male cat and BLOCK the passage of urine, than its an emergency b/c the bladder will burst. http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_feline_lower_urinary_tract_dis.
10726861 tn?1412304012 get him to a Vet asap....his bladder tube has a blockage like Apple suggested and when completely blocked like this the bladder will continue to fill and than burst....he is in pain, he is just not showing it right now.
931246 tn?1297902651 Turns out its not crystals again and it is a bladder infection.... When he did have the crystals the vet told me that he can have dry food that has urinary tract support...
Avatar n tn AH!! Maybe UTI?? Why don't you take him to the vet see if he has any bladder infection? UTI causes pain when urinating, causing the cat to associate pain with the box. Have you noticed if he cries when he pees? You haven't changed the litter, have you? Also, is the box clean? Make sure you scoop the box clean. Is there a new arrival? Is he stressed? (Loud noise, moving). Are you stressed? Has anything changed in the house?
Avatar n tn Blood in the urine could be serious. As Prettykitty said, there could be a bladder infection, or if your cat's a male then he could have the start of a urinary blockage. The cat's urine will form crystals that block the flow of urine, and eventually the cat won't be able to go at all. The bladder can rupture and the urine will back up in the body and eventually the cat will die. Sorry, to be so blunt.
Avatar n tn This is probably a simple bladder infection. I've had cats for more than 20 years, and have seen this TOO many times to count. It also points to a bladder infection, if it's small amounts of urine, and it's not like him to go outside the litter box. Some antibiotics from the vet will fix him up in no time.
Avatar n tn I have a 6 year old male Maine Coon (cat), who has been the most lovable cat. Tonight he started hissing at our other cats for no reason. We have a kitty box available, and "Big Kitty" never uses it. He has always gone outside to do his business. He's been in and out of the kitty box all night, and nothing is happening. Then he goes under the coffee table to clean himself and he growls, like he is in pain. He is a large cat, 26 pounds, as most Maine Coon's are big cats.
Avatar f tn blood in the urine does NOT necessarily mean an infection, however once any antibiotic has been started never discontinue on your own without a Vets advice... Did the clinic check her PH level in the urine and measure for crystals? blood and urinating outside of the litter box are strong indicators of crystals..and dry food is a huge culprit..cats need plenty of fluids to maintain a healthy PH and keep bladder crystal free....
8377023 tn?1399509160 They are very finicky creatures so if the box isnt clean to her standards she wont use it or 3.
Avatar m tn first of all how do you lf the cat is suffering from an URI without having a urinalysis done? He may well have bladder crystals and NO infection, infections are rare....the best form of control of these crystals is feeding CANNED food and Never dry kibble..... this antibiotic is safe for use in cats....however NO antibiotic should ever be used without a confirmed diagnosis or you risk creating a super infection...
803133 tn?1237912536 That happened in 2 different cats. The one with the bladder infection had the same symptoms as your cat. The one that was blocked didn't even try to urinate. He just laid there. There was no fever in either of them. Crystals can cause drops of blood, too. I really should've told ya about both conditions. Well, hope your baby continues to feel better! Let me know how he's doing!! PS-that's also a great sign that he's still eating, playing, and wanting some love!!!
Avatar f tn He says he finds it is best for any secondary bacterial infection following surgery. I could not find anything on the net regarding use in cats, everything says it's for dogs only.
Avatar n tn Your cat may have a problem called Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) It happens when crystals are formed in the bladder which block the urethra. Male cats are affected more commonly than females, as they have a longer urethra. Basically, the crystals sit inside the urethra, and stop the cat from unrinating. The bladder fills up and distents, causing pain and distress.
1200566 tn?1265381052 I've had my cat, Velvet for 10 years, ever since she was a kitten. She never used to pee on anything except in her litter box, until about 6 years ago. A friend had moved in with her little dog and ever since then she has been peeing on my bed and any clothes that I leave on the floor. That friend and her dog has long since moved away, and I have also moved. I've gotten a new bed and still she does it.
Avatar m tn Hi, I agree w/ Opus! I'm willing to bet that the meds for the bladder infection is causing a stomach upset. I've seen antibiotics cause vomiting and diarrhea w/ my cats. Try not to worry too much, and see what the vet has to say. The vet might be willing to change the antibiotic, or give you another med to ease his tummy troubles. Let us know what the vet says.

Avatar n tn Has anyone else had a cat with a kidney stone? Or a bladder stone? My cat has a large stone in her bladder and a small one in her kidney she is on Hills CD food and antibiotics right now I"m not sure if I should wait a couple of months to see if the bladder stone dissolves or just have it removed now? They said they can't remove the kidney stone but they can remove the bladder stone, but I don't know how the kidney stone is going to effect her health in the future.
