Common Questions and Answers about Bite tongue in sleep

tongue

Avatar f tn m a limbolander I have had this happen to me on several occasions. Dead asleep and then this lacerating pain in my tongue, under the left side of the tip, awakens me. I did not think that I had bitten the tongue and it certainly was not sore at the time or the next day. Usually when you bite your tongue it leaves a mark or pain of some sort. I guess these symptoms are a little different in that respect. Weird things certaianly happen.

Avatar f tn What puzzles me about this is that if anything at all my lower jaw seems too backwards and yet when I try to keep it forward, it gives me headaches. In fact there is a sleep apnea team here in Sydney Australia whom I have an an appointment with next year who use a mouth splint to place the jaw and tongue away from the throat to help patients. The only radiographic change was that my neck has lost some lordosis.
Avatar n tn I have gotten a wierd mark on my tongue, like a bite. I read on the internet and thing it may be "geographic tongue" syndrome. I don't know, I took a few pictures a few days ago. It looks like a bite, it felt like it was a bite but I don't remember being bitten or things in that order. Maybe I bited myself while I slept. I am not sure. Maybe you can tell me what this is ? I have updated photos of my tongue on imageshack Here they are: http://img19.imageshack.

Avatar f tn Since my tongue is bigger these days, it makes talking difficult in certain occasions, I sound like i am slurring my speech. I have alot bitten my tongue more often, which results in the bite marks turning into canker sores. I feel like I have a chronic sinus infection/post nasal drip. I basically feel sick all the time. I have decent days and terrible days. I usually sleep as often as possible bc my body just cannot handle all of the issues it has.
Avatar f tn Because since the tooth below it is gone the crown doesnt make any contact with any other teeth when I bite down. When I run my tongue across my teeth it is very obvious that the temporary crown is placed much higher than my other teeth rather than being in line with the others. I don't have any hot or cold sensitivity though.

1623930 tn?1299175877 Dogs will bite all kinds of things to eat and as defense and occasionally get stung or bitten on the tongue. Necrosis of the tongue surrounding the bite or sting occurs when the area actually dies off. This does not mean that the entire tongue will fall off or that your dog will do badly from this. The necrotic part of the tongue may have to be removed surgically to expidite healing. Please ask your vet about this. In the mean time continue to feed and care for your dog as you have been.
Avatar m tn so I woke up yesterday and I had a fat lip, like I had been punched in the mouth in my sleep. I have no earthly idea how it got there. I also chewed way at the skin and now its slightly sore whenever I touch it with my tongue. I don't know what it is or how it got there. Any help?
1744544 tn?1311299862 I chew my tongue, excessively, and I cant control it. This has been going on for almost 2 years now. I've been seen at several hospitals, I've switched my Primary Care Physician 4 times now, and I've done research, and I still can not find any answers to what has become a very painful annoyance in my life. I do this all day long, everyday, I stay up all night chewing it, and once I finally fall asleep, I wake up because I've hurt myself from chewing it in my sleep.
2112931 tn?1335098402 I haven't been dx yet so, I'm not on any medications. I only bite my cheeks when I chewing gum or eating. Maybe I'm eating too fast. Maybe I chew my gum too fast when stressed. Maybe I'm more stressed lately and that's causing it. Idk. I just thought I would throw this question out there to see if others have been doing this. What is pwms? I'm not one of those people that bite their cheeks without food in their mouths as a nervous habit.
Avatar f tn I also bite the papillae off of my tongue. I am 25 and I have been doing it since I was about 8-10 years old. It's like a texture thing for me. I only bite the side of my tongue papillae off and I try to stop, but then it feels uneven and they turn white because they're trying to heal, but I immediately bite the white stuff off. It's irritating. I brush my tongue so hard, just so that it looks normal in case anyone sees it. I wish I knew what caused it.
Avatar f tn My MS makes me break teeth, bite my tongue, lip, and cheek. I do not clench continuously. It is as if my jaw has a mind of its own. I know I am going to bite my tongue and just can't stop. I was checked for seizure disorder. I have to have a molar repaired. My dentists says he has several MS patients and some have to wear mouth guards day and night.
