Avatar f tn Dear Ash, You are on the right track. High Fat Low Carb (HFLC) diet is the way to lose weight and gain some health back. Sounds weird because we have all been taught the opposite for years. Please check out some You Tube videos by Dr Stephen Phinney and Dr Peter Attia. They will point the way for a Ketogenic diet that will help you. You will not gain weight if you stick to the diet. Fat is your friend, but only when carbs are not around.
Avatar m tn It's as simple as that! But if you're following a low-carb diet, it's possible that not enough L-tryptophan will penetrate your brain, and you could wind up depressed. So if you get depressed but don't want to eat more carbs, the solution can be as simple as taking supplemental tryptophan so there's more of it to penetrate the brain. Take either 1,500 milligrams twice daily or, if that makes you drowsy (which is rare but possible), take all 3,000 milligrams at bedtime.
Avatar n tn I am writing this for my friend who has been on a low carb diet for 4 years. At first it worked to keep weight stable, but the minute carbs were added, weight went up. She has become more and more creative in preparing low carb meals--stays under 10 grams. Her doctor advised her to start adding carbs--but she gained weight immediately. Has she done damage to her metabolism? She mentioned a stomach staple, but she hardly eats anything--thus, would a stomach staple work?
Business woman2 I have heard from several people that low-carb low-sugar diet has great influence on reducing weight and controlling diabetes. What are your thoughts from experience / reading of research studies?
Avatar f tn In effect, the paleo diet is a low-carb diet, because you don't eat any grains. The South Beach program also has a low-carb version of their diet. In my opinion, both the paleo diet and the low-carb version of the South Beach diet are low-carb diets that are very healthy. Good luck.
393419 tn?1228450993 I would caution you on low carb diet. Low is fine just don't go to low. The reason people believe carbs make us fat is: every 1 oz of carbs we eat we also carry 3 oz of water so the extra weight is actually water. Carbs are the most essential nutrient for energy so just stick to small amounts but frequently and use whole grains and definately fruit.
Avatar n tn aren't specific to low-carb diet, as much as you'd love them to be. Low- carb, high-carb, medium-carb, no-carb. You can find lower-nutrient food in all levels of macronutrient intakes. Big deal. If you are telling me that people on high-carb diets always get adequate nutrients because it’s a “magical all-inclusive dietary solution,” you’ve got your head you-know-where. Try again.
Avatar f tn my vet recommended a low carb, high protein diet for miyuki. Miyuki has fibrosarcoma and needs to be on a cancer diet. So far evo brand is the best. Evo canned 95% chicken and turkey has 0.97% carbs and 10.58 protein. Dry evo turkey and chicken has 50% protein and 6.64% carbs. Wellness canned beef and chicken 1.4 % carb and 11.1% protein. Natural balance canned turkey and giblets 4.69 % carb. Dry original ultra premium 28.13 % carbs.
Avatar f tn You want low sugar/ low carb veggies and low carb fruit in moderation, only a couple whole grains a day and lean meats (avoid red meat and fatty cuts/skins of others) Avoid alcohol and caffeine. The pills make it easier to follow, but its still awfully strict and hard to incorporate into a normal life if you have other people to feed and eat with. I don't know about the lipo shots... Hope that helps!
Avatar m tn The best way to lower blood pressure is to lose weight and lower the sodium (salt) intake into your body. It is great that you have lowered your sodium content of the food you eat. Suggest increasing your calorie intake to 1800 a day so that you can maintain your weight after you have lost it. Healthy eating and exercise will result in weight loss.
1286779 tn?1400016406 Sometimes patients are undertreated, which makes losing weight much harder. Best diet for thyroid is generally lower carb type diet. Avoid junk food, highly processed foods, and sugars. Don't eat too much fruit, or drink fruit juices. Some people with thyroid conditions do much better following gluten free diet. Would be good if you can be tested for celiac. Sometimes celiac and thyroid occur together. Hope this helps. btw, all caps means you are "yelling".
988694 tn?1332363079 Hi, low carb diet works wonders for diabetics. I went on a low carb diet, lost approx 100 lbs ! which put my diabetic levels back into normal range. As for thyroid function, I never noticed any changes in my hormone labs, due to low carb diet.
Avatar n tn my mom 78yo was dx with diabetes last wk (bld sugar 257)only symptom was tired and dry mouth..she prob had it for a while.she would eat candy and her diet was sporadic, apetitie down,,,.her dr wants her to try diet first...her sugars this past week, fasting, run about 180-240...she has stopped all sugars, is eating better, 3 meals a day, wheat breads, salad/vegs/fruit uses sugar free sodas and occass has had sugar free cookies....todays fbs was 288..I'm not sure what caused it...
Avatar f tn I don't have to be totally carb-free (that's just insane and ridiculous as we NEED carbs for energy) but it should be low carb (beans, whole wheat, etc.). So hit me with your favorite low carb recipes!!! I NEED THEM! I hate seafood, though. And meat really grosses me out but I will eat it. Chicken and beef mostly. I love veggie soups and some cream soups, especially with the cold coming. I don't know about sandwiches and wraps (LOVE them) on a low-carb diet?!
Avatar f tn Suggest eating healthy choices such as the healthy heart diet. Heart Healthy diet which is a moderate fat diet and a moderate fat diet means = using polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.
Tbd If you are following this approach you eat adequate protein, probably in the range of 1 - 2 g/ kg of bodyweight (that is g of protein, not g of protein containing foods), about 25 - 30 g of carbs which should come mostly from non-starchy veges, and then enough fat to make up your energy requirements. This is a low carb diet, but not necessarily a high fat diet. Hope this helps you. Please let us know how you go!
Avatar f tn I take meds for hypertension and cholesterol and I also take synthroid. About 6 months ago I started a low carb diet for my overall health because heart disease is in my family. I cut out processed foods, bread, white potatoes, pasta, crackers, candy, cereal, desserts. My diet consists of salads with reduced fat dressings, salmon, chicken, tuna, occasional steak, green vegetables, occasional sweet potato, nuts, cottage cheese, greek yogurt and Atkins bars.

Tbd Many chose a new way of eating (WOE), LCHF (Low Carb High Fat). as diabetics it is carbs that raise BG, eating low carb works well for controlling BG. The "eat low fat" mantra is based on BAD science. even the US CDC says cholesterol in the diet is not a concern. Also when carbs are removed from the diet then some other form of energy is needed... fat. I eat under 50 gr of carbs a day and have been since 2000.
Avatar n tn I am so sorry about the diagnosis for your dog! The best anti-cancer diet is one that includes very low carbohydrates, no grains and is high fat and high protein.

Avatar m tn In a large study from Tulane University, Kaiser Permanente, and Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, 148 people without heart disease were recruited to participate in either a low fat or low carb diet to see if choice of diet reduced heart disease risk. These patients met individually with a dietitian weekly for the first four weeks and then in small group meetings every other week for the next five months. Then they participated in monthly sessions for six more months.
Avatar m tn However, if that risk is ever realized, no one can say. Keep up the exercise, and look into low carb diet (I have athlete friends who use extra virgin coconut oil as their energy source during marathons and iron man distance events, and do very well. Their bodies have adapted to burning fat instead of carbs). You can research this online. I believe low carb eating and exercise will keep problems at bay for a very long time, if not forever.
6990909 tn?1435279416 I looked it up to see what it is and it said high fat, adequate protein, low carb diet. I do the low fat, low carb, minimal dairy, no sugar diet right now. What kind of fats are they talking about? The treatments (Humira, Methotrexate, ect) are the same for RA and PsA so Im thinking dietary treatment may be similar. In terms of supplements, I do the high doses of Tumeric and Krill oil.
Avatar n tn I don't like looking full, I like indentions to show on my body. Maybe the low carb thing has affected my brain?
500923 tn?1210172527 Low carb diet - no bread - pasta - flour - limit whole grains - no sugar natural or artificial. Brown sugar Ok once in a while. Limit fruits high in sugar! Alcohol is sugar too. Limit milk products Maintain a high green veggie diet with lean "good" protein meats - hormone free! Nuts are good and yogart - I know it has milk - but it has many other supporting factors. It a tough change but you will adjust well and won't crave the other stuff after a while.
Avatar n tn I would like to know the best diet for diabetes 2, which I take 1 pill for in the am. I have just recently had my lap band taken out. Thanks for your help.
