Common Questions and Answers about Best diet gastroparesis

diet

Avatar f tn The diet you should follow for gastroparesis is low-fiber and low-fat. I have never heard of the soft-food diet for gastroparesis. You should also eat multiple small meals a day as opposed to a couple of large meals.
Avatar n tn I would highly recommend talking to your doctor about seeing a GI physician that has alot of experience with gastroparesis. This has worked best for my son. Also talking to a CDC can help you with diet. As I have said everyone reacts differently. There are several drugs that you can speak to your doctor about if you do have it. One that seems to work is Domperidone from Canada.
Avatar n tn You may want to check out the recommendation for gastroparesis at www.gicare.com under the diet section. You also need to take a long look at the Ensure. It may be a bit high in fat content and that is a contraindication for someone with gastroparesis, since fatty foods are emptied out of the stomach in a slower fashion than others.
Avatar f tn Observation has led me to believe there may be a link between high-protein diets and gastroparesis, seeing as many who end up with gastroparesis have practiced that diet (myself included). Correlation does not imply causation, however, so I can't say for certain. As for foods, I recommend you stay away from the fatty foods for the moment. Stick with low-fat, easily digestible proteins like egg whites for now.
Avatar m tn Recently I was given a gastric emptying test and diagnosed with gastroparesis and given a low fiber diet. Can you have IBS and gastroparesis? What diet would help both?
Avatar f tn I had gastroparesis from untreated hypothyroidism. Went away once I started thyroxine. The most common cause listed for gastroparesis is diabetes though. High stomach acid isn't common. Low stomach acid is very common due to numerous reasons such as aging, eating the wrong foods, too much food, nutrient deficiencies, stress, thyroid disorders to name a few reasons. No one is healthy lowering stomach acid. That is a guarantee.
Avatar f tn Hello and welcome to the community. You may have a better reponse on the digestive community. Her doctor is the best person to help with this. If her doctor really feels the procedures are necessary, he should be working to convince the insurance company of that fact. He can write letters detailing her situation and why it is vital to her care to have these things done. I would suggest that you google search "gastroparesis diet".
Avatar m tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! The diet that works best for most people with gastroparesis is a low-fiber, low-fat diet, with many meals throughout the day. But if fiber helps you and doesn't make your symptoms worse, then by all means take it! Many people also have intolerances like lactose intolerance or gluten intolerance.
Avatar f tn I have gastroparesis, recently diagnosed, and I am furiously researching the right diet I should be on because I know carbs make me sick so I am currently on a low fat/low carb type of diet but I stumbled upon a Celiac website and I could NOT believe the nunber of people who have BOTH celiac and gastroparesis or gluten sensitivty and gastroparesis. I think this is very interesting.
Avatar n tn A gastroparesis diet is a low-fat, low-fiber diet, as well as eating many small meals throughout the day. Some people find that a liquid or pureed food diet works better.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm new at this. I have Chiari, I'm 7 yrs post op & grateful. After surgery I lost 30lbs, 108 down to 78lbs. Finally over the past 7 months I got up to 92lbs. A few months ago my cat Leo started to massage my right side and the pain was deep and severe. It only bothered me when leo massaged me. So rather than going to a Dr I stopped leo from massaging, didn't think or should I say didn't want yet another diagnosis.
280736 tn?1294198374 What is the best treatment for Gastroparesis? My 22 yr old daughter is so ill and has lost so much weight and is not getting any nutrition. She has been passing out and dizzy, I fear low blood sugar. The reglan made her so jittery and nervous, made it hard for her to take clients, she is a hair stylist. She is not diabetic. Is Zofran or domperidone better? Please any suggestions or help at all would be so appreciated.
Avatar f tn Stormy, try going to www.gicare.com and finding the suggestions for a gastroparesis diet on that board. They don't have recipes, but they'll give you a good overview of what to eat or not eat. I'm surprised the hospital's dietician couldn't give you any ideas - did you try calling your doc?
Avatar n tn Type 'gastroparesis' into a google browser and find the link to the Mayo Clinic. They've got a decent overview of delayed gastric emptying = gastroparesis.
1670868 tn?1303741669 I agree with CalGal that this sounds like gastroparesis. The diet for gastroparesis is low-fiber low-fat. You should also eat small frequent meals throughout the day. If this isn't working (and you can't afford to see a doctor) you can try putting all your foods in a blender to see if that helps.
1437301 tn?1283950525 How many of you suffer from gastroparesis? How do you cope with all the discomfort that it causes and how many of you are very underweight because of all the issues this illness causes?
Avatar n tn I was just diagnosed with gastroparesis. I don't know what diet I should be on. I know carbs make me sick. Yet I am thinking eating the cheeses and meats aren't totally good for this condition as well. I'm not sure what precise diet I should be on.
Avatar m tn I have gastroparesis too, but I have non-diabetic gastroparesis so it is a little different for me. Is he on any medications to manage the gastroparesis (reglan, domperidone, erithromycin, etc.)? Is he eating a low-fiber, low-fat diet and eating multiple small meals every day? Is the problem that he can't get enough calories in because of nausea/vomitting or that he seems to be getting enough calories but he is still losing weight?
Avatar f tn Been dxd with gastroparesis 4months ago, Im on a low fat diet and also taking flax oil per my GI Dr for bowel movement, does any one have asthma? been on predmospne on and off for asthma, can this make gastroparesis worest?
Avatar n tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! In most cases, gastroparesis is a life time thing. I would recommend trying a gastroparesis diet which is a low-fiber, low-fat diet, with eating small frequent meals throughout the day. What medications have you tried?
Avatar n tn If not, you may want to ask about having them done to check for any deleterious bacteria, or? Are you also following a gastroparesis diet?
Avatar f tn I have gastroparesis too. The best thing to do is eliminate fat and fiber from your diet, and eat several small meals rather than three large ones. Also try not to eat close to going to sleep to prevent morning/middle of the night gastroparesis symptoms. There are various types of treatment. Medicines such as Erythromycin and Reglan can help, but they can also have bad side affects. Taking an acid blocker can along with other treatments can help too.
Avatar m tn I had an upper endo done, can that detect gastroparesis? Doc saw little redness, but nothing else. If i had that, when i dry heave, wouldent food come back up instead of nothing?
Avatar f tn She has been diagnosed wiht GERD and gastroparesis. In the past she has been on a j tube but has now been put back on a g tube which is obviously easier to deal with when she pulls it out. My question is when she eats she appears to be choking but never really does choke. We have been to every dr imaginable and I am wondering do I just wait out the GERD and gastroparesis or do I put my little girl through more tests to a quesiton that may not have an answer except wait?
