antihistamine

Avatar f tn Hi, Let's not assume bee sting. Is the whole leg swollen or just part? Is the foot and/or ankle swollen? Is your cat licking or paying special attention to a specific site on the leg? Is there any wound or mark, even a scratch on the swollen leg? It could very likely be an infection, or, since he's putting no weight on it at all, it could be broken. Either would account for swelling.
539780 tn?1213943976 After a few days if still swollen running hot water over the sting area makes it drain faster. Like hot water in the shower for 15 minutes twice a day on that spot. For me the swelling will stay for a good 2 weeks. But if I repeat hot water over the sting area I an make it go away in just a few days. By now you would have known if you were allergic. So if you had an allergic reaction other than swelling take antihistamine before running hot water over it.
Avatar f tn In your case the bee sting can be responsible for these hives. The mainstay of treatment of hives is antihistamine which may be necessary for prolonged periods (in excess of 6 weeks). You can take antihistamines such as Cetirizine or Loratadine. Sedating antihistamines such as Chlorphenamine or Hydroxyzine are used at night to get urticaria control. Short courses of oral cortisone or steroids are taken for short periods (one to three days) to settle more severe symptoms.
Avatar f tn Hi, Wasps can be nasty. You can have you Dr take a look. I think that usually if it's in the same area that you were stung in (on the same limb) it's called a local reaction and can get quite big. Eyes, mouth are exceptions I think. Of course, do ask your Dr or make an appt as we are not medical professionals -- just a mom with mega experience with my daughters' allergies which include bee sting. It is probably a delayed reaction since it's take overnight to develop.
Avatar n tn Hi, Most bee and wasp stings are not serious. A minor sting can be painful and sometimes cause a little swelling, redness, burning, or itching at the site of the sting. Hornets, wasps, yellow jackets, and ants do not leave their stingers, but bees can. If any part of the stinger remains, scrape it out immediately with your fingernail or the edge of a credit card. Do not push on the stinger, or you may squeeze more poison into the wound.
Avatar f tn Hello, I started feeling an odd stinging sensation on the side of my foot (little toe side). I thought maybe it was a bee sting but nothing was there. The stinging would come and go so I took a closer look and felt a hard lump the size of a dime right on the bone of my foot. I don't know if it has been there all along or is something new. IT is bone hard and does not move. I have feet that are boney with bunions so I didn't know if this was just another aspect of that.
Avatar f tn So I stepped on a bee and got a sting -_- will it harm my baby?
Avatar m tn Went to the dr today for a bite and he says it's either a bee sting or a wasp sting he gave me .20 mg of prednisone 3 pills for 10 days....why is that? I thought I should get an antibiotic.
Avatar m tn I'm hoping someone on this forum knows a lot more than I do about this subject! For question number one, I would talk to a qualified allergist. Your pharmacist may have some answers as well. Question number 2 is still out of the scope of my "practice," but if a person who suffers from anaphylaxis is on a benzo, IMHO, the use of that med will NOT decrease the likelyhood of an anyaphylatic response.
Avatar f tn It sounds to me like a bee sting or stings. For something to get that swollen in 20 minutes it has to be some type of insect sting. Where do you live (general area)? Do they have bark scorpions where you live? That's another possibility. Benadryl is excellent for relieving allergic reactions such as swelling from a bee sting. Please let us know how she is doing.
Avatar f tn It seems it was some kind of rare delayed reaction to the bee sting. I thought maybe something had crawled across my face and had a buffet when I was sleeping since it was so long after the sting. When I called the Dr. he thought it was pink eye, until they saw it and the hives around the swollen area. They gave me a round of steroids, but I have no tolerance for most prescription drugs for some reason.
506903 tn?1211847133 Hi, there! Apitherapy (Bee Venom Therapy) has been around for half a century or so and because the bee venom appears to have an antiinflammatory action on the nerves it has been used with a lot of "anecdotal" success by lots of people. It is an old part of Chinese traditional medicine for a wide variety of illnesses. Enthusiasm for it heightened in the mid to late 90's when it was featured on one of the News Magazine TV shows like 60 Minutes.
524243 tn?1212309439 I have a quick question (and I want to see if anyone else has this problem): I am really, really frustrated because for the last month or so, I have been having a "bee sting" sensation all over my body. It started out just around my back, and it has spread everywhere!!! Argh! I had no idea that this was a possible symptom of MS, but when I contacted my Neuro, she said that it was common (that was news to me!). She put me on Neurontin and said that it would help.
Avatar f tn Then after a month and a half, I woke up one morning and directly around the bee sting there was a round quite noticable lump that with ice, went down after a couple of hours. Now today, I have had the same thing happen. The lump is very distinct at first and then seems to disappate into my nose (between my eyes) and is gradually disappearing. I went to the doctor and she said that there was no stinger left behind and that there is some kind of pocket??
2095738 tn?1339825243 So there's this wasp that's been hanging around me all day and I've never been stung to know if I'm allergic but I know my aunt is. If this thing decides to sting me before my bf gets home and I am allergic will it affect my babies? Or would it depend upon how allergic I am to the sting? I'm hiding in my room now lol but idk what to do if I got stung n had a reaction to it..
Avatar f tn Be on the safe side and take her to the vet. I would do that soon, if she appears to be in pain. It might be wiser not to use Human meds, but to wait for a veterinary prescription. Many human painkillers just aren't a good idea for dogs. Poor girl. I can't say I know what's wrong here. Are you sure she didn't get stung by a bee or something? Look for any sting marks, bite marks (I'm thinking other critters as well,) or swelling at the back of her neck.
1523516 tn?1330044257 Hey gang, My kiddos were watching this nature show about natural rememdies and using insects, etc for healing purposes. Low and behold this lady has MS and noticed when she was stung by a bee (they were honey bees) that she was able toget around a bit better and didn't feel as stiff. She tested the theory once more and the same thing happened. Her husband immediately rushed out and bought a bee box with a hive and started raising bees.
3791484 tn?1348234566 I've been getting hives for three days straight. From the 16th til the 18th at night. When I was younger I'd get them constantly. They stopped after I got pregnant. At 17 then. Now 25.
Avatar m tn I am geeting a pain in my neck/shoulder area that feels like a bee sting the pain comes and goes and feels like it getting worse
Avatar f tn im on day 6 ct from percs/hydro and just wanted to say how much reading this site has helped me, hearing that everyone else knew what it felt like and made it through was really what gave me hope. for the first few days my back pain was intolerable so i began bee sting therapy again, something i did before the opiates, and honestly the pain from 10 bee stings a day was better than the back pain, this still did nothing for the WD's which were agony.
Avatar f tn Yeah its like a bee sting..
