Benzocaine and Lidocaine are two quite different products, neither are trade names (unlike xylocaine which is a trade name of lidocaine).
Normally I do not correct folks on forums, but the dangerous dose difference between the two is significant. 20% benzocaine may be acceptable for some applications, 20% lidocaine is likely to end in a bad way.
Hello and welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question. This must be very frustrating. You've not found anything skin related? Neurological itch does happen. Here's an article that is very interesting on the subject. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3139924/ This article talks about neurological itch and that often, the place that is itching is not where the abnormality is that is causing the itch. They will need to determine where it is coming from.
i used a condom that contained benzocaine and since then i had infection on my glans. it was usually swollen and sometimes red. twice the skin on the glans had peeled off also. and my foreskin was bruised and then it became ok. i thgt tht this was because of the infection and now everything is ok. but the redness and swelling still persists. finally i consulted a doctor and he said it was Balinitis. he gave me ointment and 6 different medicines for 20 days. still the infection is not gone.
I suffer from a chronic external nose irritation: idiopathic paresthesia?(my) Doc says it's sensitive nerve endings. They tingle/throb constantly at the tip(nasal dorsal nerve?) The area below my lower lip is similarly affected. No neuralgia, ie pain. Swiping yields but temporary relief. It always creeps back. I've tried a plethora of topicals to no avail: OTCs(all) , returns to East Coast manufacturers, and compounded medicine.

I used it twice a day everyday for about 12 days (we were on our honeymoon) and at around two weeks, it started to numb my penis and I started having a hard time maintaining the erection. I didn't attribute the problem to the condom, and continued using it every 3 or 4 days. Each time it became worse. After doing research, I figured out that it could be the overuse of benzocaine, but now I'm terribly worried about when/if this will every go away.
My dentist gives me my shot and see another patient, by the time he got back to me I was fully numb. and the numbness last for 8 - 12 hours. I am highly allergic to lidocaine it puts me into anaphylactic shock, I have an epipen but sa that I don't have to use that I just make sure everyone is doing their job and I always wear my medic alert bracelet.
My climax delay condoms have a 5% benzocaine gel inside. Is it safe to use 2 or 3 of these condoms in a row (for example within 2 hours)?
Thanks for the reply. I've had a blood test and a urine test done. They did not show anything abnormal. Since the lab work is coming back normal nobody knows what to do. I started having all of these symptoms after using benzocaine a couple of times. This was over two months ago. I know benzocaine is supposed to be quickly absorbed through the system but it has affected me in a different way, unless there was some other chemical mixed in with the benzocaine.
Just a thought have you ever been checked for whipple's disease I have all the same issues you have and they think it's being caused by this underlying infection. Idk why they don't test for or think of this disease enough here in the US. I got it from a health supplement called deer antler velvet spray.
About 5 days ago, I started getting a fever ear infection like symptoms and perhaps 3 days ago, multiple sores started forming on my lips and on the inside of my cheeks and my lips are very chapped and crusty and it is extremely difficult to eat. I have never had something this before, please advise what this is and what kind of treatment i should get.
ve had quite a few stellate ganglion blocks and have had some success. They thought the lidocaine infusion might help the other pain I deal with and kill two (or more) birds at the same time so to speak.
KittKat23-78, Sorry the infusion didn't help you!! I hadn't heard about having several a few days apart; I'll have to ask about it. Mine is (at least one) being paid for by worker's comp. I'm hopeful but also trying to keep things realistic and in perspective.
left pointer finger, at work i stuck a cedar sliver under the nail past the start point of the nail. I attempted to pull it out and it broke off. only 1/4 inch came out so a good 1/2 inch is still in there i can see it thru the nail. I attempted to cut and split the nail with razor blade but once i got part way thru nail it hurt bad. my co-worker gave me a new 10ml bottle of lidocaine, he uses it to give himself stitches.
Has anyone ever been prescribed this for genital outbreaks or PHN? My doctor did for PHN. I just tried it for the first time it hurt to apply and doesn't feel the most pleasant now. Has anyone ever used this and what was your experience?
I am a 25 year old female and I had a seizure while having dental work done about 3 weeks ago. I had been given lidocaine and nitrous oxide. Following the appointment, I went to a neurologist and had a CT scan and an MRI done. Both showed no brain abnormalities. I had eclampsia 4 years ago and had seizures which resulted in the early delivery of my child. Aside from my seizures 4 years ago, I had no previous history of seizure disorder.
I would feel a whole lot better without using any anesthetic during the procedure since I had a terrible experience back in 1989 when I was given a skin test for Lidocaine and Meprivacaine? both WITHOUT EPINEPHRINE,YES,WITHOUT EPINEPHRINE and I made sure of that before the skin test.They had to discontinue the Lidocaine because of heart side effects.But they finished with the other one and they thought that everything was fine and sent me home..The next day,BOOM! they hit with a vengence..P.
