755829 tn?1246919225 It depends on the method of decafination. Some methods of producing decaf coffee use extremely toxic solvents known to be neurological toxins, as well as being carcinogenic. This was the case until the mid 1990's when a new non-toxic processing system was introduced. You want decaf coffee that is processed with the harmless super-critical carbon dioxide process.
Avatar f tn Because a I have United Healthcare as well and it is also from Minnesota, I think this is the ridiculous insurance ever, every time we do bloodwork, that send me a bill saying this and that is not covered and the bill is over $200 that I have to pay out of my pocket. My total out of pocket doctors visit was estimated to be 670 with my insurance but, honestly I have to pay almost twice that amount.
Avatar m tn An Italian case-control study [28] based on 151 cases with hepatocellular carcinoma, reported a multivariate RR of 0.78 for drinkers of ≥3 cups of coffee per day, compared to non coffee drinkers. In a Greek case-control study [26], including 333 cases, the age- and sex-adjusted RR was 0.7 for drinkers of ≥20 cups of coffee per week compared to non drinkers.
Avatar f tn The newest study just published yesterday suggests that coffee not only benefits your likelyhood of beating this virus, it also decreases the risk of liver cancer and fibrosis. In the past the emphasis was caffeine was the determining factor but new research disproves this finding. More research is underway but it appears an intrinsic component in coffee found in decaf and regular creates this positive environment. You must consume 3 cups or more daily.

Avatar n tn Of the 808 patients who responded to the questionnaire at baseline, 711 drank zero to 2 cups of coffee a day, and 97 drank 3 or more cups of coffee daily. Those who drank the most coffee also consumed the most alcohol and cigarettes. These coffee drinkers, however, had healthier livers than the other participants, with less steatosis (evaluated by biopsy) and lower bilirubin levels, α-fetoprotein levels, and aspartate aminotransferase/alanine aminotransferase ratios (P < .05).

Avatar f tn t good for you when you are pregnant. You are allowed some caffeine I think 200 mg. I think thats equal to 2 small cups of coffee but I'm not sure. You will have to Google it. I just drink decaffeinated coffee so I can still enjoy the smell and taste without worrying.
Avatar m tn In prior studies, coffee consumption has been linked to a wide range of health benefits including reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome and several types of cancer, the researchers noted as background. 1216231 tn?1272475704 It's good to learn about this stuff, but the blood type diet is way oversold. It teaches some very interesting things and gives people ideas why certain foods might not agree with them, but I think the guy just takes it way too far. He's still generalizing way too much. But it's good to add it to our understanding of food, something we know so little about it's scary.
479244 tn?1271563659 I would, however, suggest to anyone who does want to enjoy their coffee to at least start buying organic coffee. There are a lot of unnecessary chemicals in regular coffee (or so I've heard).
Avatar f tn Thanks for all the great answers. Since I had read about its benefits to the liver in a couple of places, I thought I'd ask you guys about it. I have never in my life drunk coffee. I've tried it; I can't stand it. If I loaded up enough sugar and milk and even cocoa (like they do in Europe) I can tolerate it, but it's the coffee itself that appears to be beneficial. However, if it might help with the sides I am willing to choke it down.
Avatar n tn I am 24 weeks pregnant tomorrow with baby #3 and the sleepless nights are starting to kick in. I really want, and need some coffee but I am nervous to drink it while pregnant. I know having a little caffeine is not bad and I have a soda every now and then but I've never had caffeinated coffee during any of my pregnancies. What do y'all think?
Avatar f tn It sounds like you're having digestion problems. The most problematic of the foods you mention generally are first, the milk, second, the sugar, and third the coffee. But it's hard to say since diet is very complicated, and you don't say how soon after eating you laid down. Chamomile is a good stomach relaxant and anti-inflammatory, perhaps try some of that instead of the coffee, milk, and sugar and see how you do, assuming you don't need the coffee to stay awake.
Avatar f tn There are a lot of mixed medical opinions out there regarding this so you should do what you feel comfortable with both physically and emotionally...caffeine is tough to kick so if you decide to cut it out of your diet do it slowly by switching to a mix of decaf and regular...I personally gave it up while I was prego but I had a miscarriage at 11 weeks...however I quickly went back to my old habit and it is a b**** to kick it again!

Avatar f tn I am in the San Francisco area, where we can go out for a very strong cup of coffee, like Philz coffee (yum yum, and they add a mint leaf), but the usual cup of StarBucks, is not going to be as strong as say, a cup of Peets coffee, if you go out.
