627388 tn?1222198212 You hope you never need to cash it in but it gives you a sense of security. The Mayo education goes over all of the statistical studies and the benefits of treatment. The main thing they want you to be educated as a patient and at the same time realize that they are not in the drug companies back pocket. I found my options to be very open and honest and not at all discouraging. I left confident with my choice to begin therapy and knowing that they supported my decision.
973741 tn?1342342773 I just read that the Mayo Clinic in Arizonia is denying medicaid patients due to low reimbursments. They have to pay cash. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn Some here on the board are not real pleased with the Mayo clinic. It seems they have their own set of standards to give out a dx of MS. I personally know nothing about them and wish you the best....hoping for that answer.
1264955 tn?1381782221 m from Minnesota. My father spent a lot of time at Mayo. Its considered one of the best if not thee best hospital in the world. I'm sure thier nuerology dept is top notch.
Avatar f tn You could probably get an idea from the Mayo Clinic. Their support staff is wonderful and are ultra organized. Best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn I do not have any person in mind, but some really quick internet searches at the Mayo clinic turn up a person by the name of Paul Friedman. Interestingly, he and several other authors from Mayo wrote a paper entitled: "Differential outcome of cardiac resynchronization therapy in ischemic cardiomyopathy and idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy.
553283 tn?1409694311 Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic are obviously both top-flight medical centers, so the choice between the two would not be so much "which is better, Cleveland or Mayo;" it would be which one has a doctor or program that is more specialized to what you need.
Avatar f tn For instance, studies evaluating the effect of green tea – popularly considered a “healthier” source of caffeine – have not shown the benefits associated with filtered, caffeinated coffee. This lack of benefit appears to be true for sources of caffeine other than green tea as well. Lastly, coffee should ideally be prepared by filtration because filtering removes cafestol and kahweol, two substances found in coffee that may increase serum cholesterol. So, What Do We Tell Our Patients?
Avatar m tn Truthfully, I've heard one of the best MS Clinics in the US is the Mellen Center at Cleveland Clinic. You might try checking out http://www.mscare.org They list all the clinics available, etc. My neuro said the clinic at Cincinatti isn't that great but thinks Cleveland Clinic is really good. I've never heard of the Mayo Clinic being highly rated for MS, but more for heart desease.
Avatar f tn I decided that I should travel to the United States and hopefully get a diagnosis. I know that Mayo clinic and Cleveland clinic have a good dysautonomia clinics but I don't know which one should I choose so I would appreciate any suggestions !!! Also I know healthcare in the US is so expensive and since I don't have insurance I wonder how much such a visit to one of those hospitals will roughly cost ?I know it's hard to tell but I'm asking for a roughly cost. Thanks.
499534 tn?1328704178 I am looking into Sanoviv hospital instead of Mayo clinic. I know people personally who have gone there and gotten fixed. One of my close friends has thyroid issues and hep C and went there. She has more energy than a teen. First thing they did was put her on Westhroid and spent 3 days running diagnostic tests. They give you a panel of doctors who all work together in your diagnostics and treatment. I am saving up to go there....
12365171 tn?1424880667 Half the time they discover a small amount of something has negative effects then later find benefits. I think i saw one study showing benefits of coffee drinking on the heart, just like they did with wine but that could change in ten years and they will say the opposite. I think as long as it's in moderation you're probably just fine. As long as it's not meth or something!
Avatar f tn Hi! I recently read an article from mayo clinic which talked about cold hands upon awaking being nothing more than the body trying to regulate its' tempreature. However, there are other things which could cause the shaking and that could be any thing from asthma, anxiety or, drugs. There is also the possibility of vascular problems. Did he take his tempreature? If he continues to do this I would tell him to see his doc. otherwise I would not get upset about it.
1415174 tn?1453243103 s been a game changer. Best of luck to you. Mayo Clinic figured it out, was @ Cleveland Clinic and UPMC prior, but Mayo Clinic was worth the trip for sure.
Avatar f tn m curious who has been to Mayo before and how their experiences went. Did you use the POTS clinic part of it or something else? I am also curious because I am mainly going to see if any doctor can figure out the underlying cause of my POTS (my current doctors are not interested in testing for any possible causes of it). Should I go to the POTS clinic part of it or should I just see a general doctor there? Anyways, I'd love to hear your stories about Mayo!
Avatar n tn Thanks. Does it help? What kind do you use? There is also something called the "Circulator Boot," which is carried by some (not too many) podiatrists, and the Mayo Clinic and a few others. They claim marvelous benefits from it. But tell me about the one you use to help with the edema, thanks. My husband is experiencing that now, but he has a bone infection in the toe and we're trying to avoid surgery.
Avatar f tn Hey Kelly, Which Mayo did you go to? They used to diagnose regularly and you could count on Mayo for honest answers. But in later years, from what I have read generated by others having gone there, Mayo has not been liking to diagnose much lately, and has even been known to cancel out an established MS diagnosis of patients going to there.
Avatar f tn He has an intern/fellow /whatever that does most of the talking and was very helpful. I was at the main Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, about 2 hours south of the Twin Cities. I know they also have clinics in AZ and FL(?) but I think they are smaller. I think you start out in general cardiology, however, and then cardiology checks you and out refers you to heart rhythm. Good luck, let me know if you end up making an appt there - they are the best!
Avatar m tn com/health/womens-health/natural-treatment-pcos One thing they mention is to cut out coffee. Not sure if you are a coffee drinker but that is a tough one for a lot of people.
655875 tn?1295695107 I'm going to the Mayo clinic in Rochester, MN. I live about an hour and a half from there. I hope they call soon. There is a metal piece or something digging into my spinal cord. If the Mayo clinic does not call back in a decent time, I will also make an appointment with the head of neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota and I also have a couple Neurosurgeons names for a back up plan as well. I hope someone will help me in this regards.
572651 tn?1530999357 A while back I entered the patient scholarship opportunity for the Social Media conference at Mayo Clinic. You may have even been one of the many people who ‘liked’ me through Facebook. They awarded three scholarships for the patient/caregiver and one companion to attend the conference. I was not one of the three people selected to attend, but I did reach out to the winners with my congratulations.
237053 tn?1258828426 I went to the Mayo Clinic in AZ in January - hoping to find some answers. I will say that it is a very well run facility - but don't pin your hopes on a big "well known" facility to solve everything for you. The neurologist that I saw at the Mayo clinic didn't want to see my timeline or my list of symptoms - although at the end of my initial appointment, he did take my list of symptoms to include in my chart.
Avatar f tn They were surprised to find a small bone tumor which is very rare and certainly not their specialty. Their in house pathology lab classified it as benign but sent it to Mayo Clinic for a second opinion. My doctor has been horrible with communication. It’s been two weeks and I’ve heard nothing. Now I’ve just learned my doctor is on vacation so the soonest I would hear anything is the end of next week.
