Avatar f tn My dog was recently put on Benazapril for her kidney issues. Some of the side effects say it can cause kidney issues. Anyone have any idea what I should be watching for to differentiate the Benazapril side effects from her kidney failure symptoms? Anyone have experience with it? One of the side effects is also anorexia, and she is not interested in food today. I can't tell if this is because of the new meds or her illness.
Avatar m tn My readings have been like 156/85 and as high as 167/90. I have been on Benazepril since May. I have felt better ever since taking the medicine no doubt. Not one single headache and I generally feel better. My blood pressure had went down a little on my last vist. It was about 148/84. The doctor still saw the need to put me on another medication, so now im taking Benazepril and Amlodipine. And at times checking my BP myself it has been down to like 127/80. Im only 24 and thats what worries me.
Avatar m tn i was recently told by my doctor that trace amounts of protein were found in my urine. i have had a long history of kidney stones, over 10 yrs and have been seen a urologist for kidney stones. could the trace amounts of protein in my urine be connected to the nephrolithisis? my md (not my urologist) prescribed an ace inhibitor benazipril 10 mg to protect my kidneys from damage, and said the the trace amounts of protein in my urine may be due to the kidney stones.
Avatar m tn While living in the US I was using Benazepril 40 mg, but now I'm living in Ecuador and that med is not available here not as lotensin on benazepril. What can I sustitute it with?
Avatar n tn I was on benazapril for hbp for quite a while, developed a slight dry scratchy cough my doctor described as benazepril cough. He changed me to valsartan last week and thats where the real fun began :-( 3 days on valsartan and I was having horrible side effects of dizziness, rapid heart rate, general feeling of crappiness, even slight shortness of breath with the slightest exertion None of which I experienced with the benazepril.
Avatar f tn My 5 year old dog, Harper was just diagnosed with stage 3 kidney failure this week. This hit us seemingly fast. Sunday night she was throwing up and at the vet on Monday, the vet could only get bloody mucus for a stool sample. I took her home and kept an eye on her. She kept having diarrhea and seemed lethargic. I thought she must have some sort of blockage in her GI tract.
Avatar n tn I am 75. I take 75 mg of atenolol and 40 mg of benazepril hcl every day. I had an echo stress test (speed increases every two minutes) and at 6 minutes my blood pressure starting falling so the test was stopped and the doctor said sometimes with blood pressure medicine that happens. He said my heart was fine. I had a by-pass 12 years ago. So do I have to worry?

Avatar f tn Then he had the test results and the Vet prescribed Hills G/D dry food for senior dogs, an Omega 3 capsule (600mg), Aminavast (300mg twice a day) and Benazepril (10 mg) to decrease stress on the organs and kidney. Since being on this routine, only approx 5 days, he is drinking heavily, urinating constantly and he eats very little, leaving most of the food in his bowl, hating the prescription diet food. How can I know this is the best solution?
Avatar n tn I took lantus throughout treatment. However, my doctor pulled me off metformin because it sometimes messes with ALT levels, making it difficult to get an accurate picture of how liver enzymes respond to tx. I ate so little during tx, and a lot of it was ice cream. Nevertheless, for some reason - despite all the sugar in ice cream - my A1c was better during tx than it ever was before or after.
Avatar m tn 58 year old female with long-standing hypertension (30 mg Benazepril daily). Wt, chol, lipids, glucose, etc. all good. Last year, my primary referred me to a Cardio for a 24 hour Holter for palpitations. The cardiologists' comment on the ECG was "non specific ST and T wave changes." This May, after resuming regular exercise (daily 2.
Avatar m tn The doc put me on 2 medications, benazepril and amlodipine. These were keeping down to around 125/80 or 85. Im not able to check it constantly. But it was down and I felt worlds better, especially by adding on the exercising too. Now the kicker. I started seeing a new doctor after I moved. When I first went in she saw that my BP was really high for my age and put me on the 2 meds. She also took a ton of blood out of my arm and did a urine test.
17566731 tn?1457903922 The best blood pressure medication for kidney failure dogs is Benazepril. Please encourage your vet to prescribe it and then check blood pressure each week to see if it has any effect. If it does not seem to be bring blood pressure down (or not enough), then a Calcium Channel Blocker should be added to the Benazepril. Blood numbers needed include: Creatinine, BUN, phosphorus, calcium, potassium, sodium, and sodium potassium ratio if given.
7588673 tn?1392302734 I had read (and CRYED) about all of the kidney failure posts on this forum. We are still missing what caused the Kidney failure (I suspect the anti-inflamitory drugs) and what cause his leg to go up in the first place. Any advice and of course words of comfort would be greatly appreciated. Bender is my baby, he is the child my husband and I never got to have, he means so much to me. He is the best dog, obedient, friendly, and when he feels good playful.
1916673 tn?1420233270 I am currently looking into another aspect of canine kidney failure and would appreciate your response to the question: During the diagnosis period, did your vet measure your dog's blood-pressure? There are reasons for me asking this, but please forgive me for not explaining them at this stage.
Avatar f tn Yesterday we received the heartbreaking news that our beautiful girl Brewer has chronic kidney disease. Her CREA was 6 (unfortunately I don't remember the phos or BUN) they sent her home on the k/d diet and phos binder and an aluminum hydroxide gel. I took her in initially because she was losing weight and drinking more water (I initially thought diabetes) other than a little more tired, she is her normal self. Eats her food, begs for food from our toddler, and drinks water.
1347038 tn?1276540857 It has come down a lot the last year due to weight loss and exercise. My diet has improved tremendously! I used to be on Atenolol and Benazepril. I am completely drug free, and have been since Jan. 21st of this year. My body could be healing from all the prescriptions I used to be on? The heart thing comes and goes no rhyme or reason?

Avatar f tn I was disqualified from a job process due to this medical condition called left ventricular hypertrophy. I take benazepril & amlodipine besylate for high blood pressure, and for migraines atenolol. I didn't know they were also used for heart problems. Is this condition treatable or cureable?
1004097 tn?1251117610 I have both hypertension and hypothyroidism. I take Benazepril for my blood pressure and am on a combination of levothyroxin (T4 med) and cytomel (T3 med) for the hypothyroidism. I take my levo first thing in the morning (which for me is 3:30 am), then I take the cytomel about 7:00 am to help me get through the day. I take my blood pressure med at the same time I take my cytomel, but benazepril is not a beta blocker, it's an ACE inhibitor. T4 and T3 meds are NOT the same thing.
Avatar f tn Stem cell therapy is a complex, very expensive and uncertain development in the treatment of canine kidney disease. Colorado State University have been one of the leading agencies for this research, which has now been going for some years.Early studies were very disappointing - but more recent ones, involving cats with kidney disease, have shown some (sometimes only slight) improvements. It is a very invasive form of treatment, and not all patients survive it.
