Avatar m tn Plavix is an unusual medication in dogs. Are you aware of why your vet prescribed this? If not, please ask. If it is for glomerular disease, then it is not the best medication. Studies suggest plain aspirin is actually slightly safer. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker and typically given for blood pressure or another circulatory condition. It is also used to assist kidney failure, by improving blood flow.
Avatar n tn Beta blockers like metoprolol and ACE inhibitors like benazepril have been been shown to be of value in patients with congestive heart failure as well as for hypertension. Simvastatin is of value for patients with both diabetes and heart disease. Talk to your doctor and changes can be made to minimize the side effects.
Avatar m tn While living in the US I was using Benazepril 40 mg, but now I'm living in Ecuador and that med is not available here not as lotensin on benazepril. What can I sustitute it with?
Avatar n tn I am 75. I take 75 mg of atenolol and 40 mg of benazepril hcl every day. I had an echo stress test (speed increases every two minutes) and at 6 minutes my blood pressure starting falling so the test was stopped and the doctor said sometimes with blood pressure medicine that happens. He said my heart was fine. I had a by-pass 12 years ago. So do I have to worry?
Avatar f tn I have no experience with CHF in dogs, or if I did I didn't know what it was... but as a human suffering with heart problems I can say the symptoms sound like "normal" and will likely be the cause of death if not "put down". Not trying to be bad news, but add that CHF means heavier breathing is needed to supply needed oxygen to the blood. The only thing I know of in the case of humans is use of supplemental oxygen, see it often in older people, not me yet.
Avatar n tn t take anything for 2 days and then back on the benazepril and see him next week. Yesterday morning I woke up from a deep sleep with a pain in my left arm, basically right about heart height, and a feeling like my chest was in a vise and someone kept turning it tighter. To the ER we went. They did 2 chest xrays, a pile of bloodwork, 2 ekg's and sent me home saying nothing was wrong and to see my doctor for a follow up and a stress test, come back if it gets worse.
1916673 tn?1420233270 When my dog Mandy was diagnosed with CKD in early 2014, my vet said nothing about BP. I became proactive and consulted with a veterinary nutritionist at Ohio State University. It was she who said CKD dogs are often hypertensive. So then I went back to my vet, requested a BP reading, and found Mandy's systolic BP at 173 was high. Mandy was then put on Enalapril. Much has happened since then. Disappointed with the vet I had been using for 28 years, I changed local vets.
Avatar m tn how much protein do you show in your urine? protein in urine could be a sign of progressive kidney failure. i am going to be taking a 24 hr urine in October 2009, hopefully the news is good. as far as the benazepril 10mg i haven't had any side effects...one of the most common side effects with blood pressure pills is a cough that could appear at anytime. also it is a good idea to keep your blood pressure below 130/80. sorry i took so long to answer.
Avatar n tn I took lantus throughout treatment. However, my doctor pulled me off metformin because it sometimes messes with ALT levels, making it difficult to get an accurate picture of how liver enzymes respond to tx. I ate so little during tx, and a lot of it was ice cream. Nevertheless, for some reason - despite all the sugar in ice cream - my A1c was better during tx than it ever was before or after.
Avatar m tn 58 year old female with long-standing hypertension (30 mg Benazepril daily). Wt, chol, lipids, glucose, etc. all good. Last year, my primary referred me to a Cardio for a 24 hour Holter for palpitations. The cardiologists' comment on the ECG was "non specific ST and T wave changes." This May, after resuming regular exercise (daily 2.
Avatar m tn I have a 3.5 year old yellow lab that was recently limping, so she was taken to the vet and they did blood work and the blood work suggested Kidney Failure. Her creatine level was 4.1 and BUN/UREA 64 mg/dl. She spent 2 days in the ER getting fluids and medication. She's on amlodipine Besylate, Maropitant, prednisolone, doxycycline. She has struggled to eat, been very tired and isn't herself at all. Its been 4 days since she came home from the ER and she's slowly gotten worse.
Avatar f tn Then he had the test results and the Vet prescribed Hills G/D dry food for senior dogs, an Omega 3 capsule (600mg), Aminavast (300mg twice a day) and Benazepril (10 mg) to decrease stress on the organs and kidney. Since being on this routine, only approx 5 days, he is drinking heavily, urinating constantly and he eats very little, leaving most of the food in his bowl, hating the prescription diet food. How can I know this is the best solution?
Avatar m tn My previous doctor recognized it was high back in December. I went to a doctor late in May. She diagnosed me with HBP. My readings have been like 156/85 and as high as 167/90. I have been on Benazepril since May. I have felt better ever since taking the medicine no doubt. Not one single headache and I generally feel better. My blood pressure had went down a little on my last vist. It was about 148/84.
Avatar f tn Dont let your dogs be too close to the baby and dont leave your dogs alone with your baby. Get your dogs in a good consistent routine of feeding, exercising, and down time. That will help them adjust to when your baby is here and you wont have all time to focus on them.
17566731 tn?1457903922 It has no water content at all. Over time, it causes dogs to become chronically dehydrated, and that can result in kidney failure along with many other problems. Dry dog food is full of chemicals and is less nutritional than most canned food. If you want to learn more ... read my article here: http://www.infobarrel.com/Why_Dry_Dog_Food_Is_Bad_For_Dogs But now you have started on Hill kd canned, that's good, as it contains about 80% water and is low in protein and phosphorus.
Avatar f tn Welcome to the Dogs Community! :-) The cheesy white drainage makes me think it's follicular cysts. Basically, the hair follicles get clogged and the tiny sebaceous glands underneath can't drain properly which results in a pimple or cyst. Think of it along the lines of humans with certain kinds of acne. Like humans, some dogs just produce more oil in their skin, and there's not much to be done for it.
Avatar f tn I was reading on the net that dogs do not have epilepsy, it is strictly a human condition. I want to believe my vet but.... Will you please explain to me what causes seizures in dogs and what I can di to prevent it?
