Avatar f tn I'm a 60 year old female taking Lotrel 5/20 and 25 mg Spironolactone for hypertension. (I started on HCTZ, however, after 3 months I developed a vascular rash on my arms which my doctor said was a reaction to the HCTZ and the sun so he switched me to Spironolactone). My BP has come down too low....I was getting readings of 98/58...so my doctor told me to take the Spironolactone only 2X per week.
Avatar m tn i am on diovan 360mg twice a day, betaxolo 10mg and hctz 25 mg. and i cannot loose weight, I have gained 20 lobs after taking the hctz for a year or more. Not matter how little I eat or how much i exercise I gain. I have tried stopping the hctz and then my bp shoot up. Help!!!
Avatar f tn I had a problem before with Potassium loss from HCTZ. I was taken off of it when I went to the emergency ward, for certain symptons. My pressure is fine now unless Im in a Dr.s office. .... Now I take Fosinopril 40 and Verapamil 80 twice a day which is working perfectly.. The last docter wanted to try me on HCTZ once more telling me to drink alot of orange juice. After a month of taking it he realized I dont need them. My pressure goes up with anxiety of docters.
Avatar m tn I take 25 mg of Hydrochlorithiazide. Would there be anything wrong with taking Cayenne 455 mg as well? Cayenne is supposed to normalize blood pressure.
Avatar n tn They sent me home with a prescription of hctz and propolonal 20 and 25 strength. At 12 noon I took my first prescription and at 3pm it was still high like the original number. Does it take that long to work? Should I keep running back and forth to the ER? This is the first day..
Avatar f tn Went to Doctor on Wednesday. I've been lactating and suspect pregnancy but maybe not. Dr. put me on HCTZ for fluid retention cause I've gained 20 lbs since January and also did lab work to see if pregnant and check my hormones to see if I'm not pregnant why I would be lactating. Got a call Friday- she said I'm pregnant- stop taking HCTZ. I had already made an appointment with my other Dr.
Avatar m tn While living in the US I was using Benazepril 40 mg, but now I'm living in Ecuador and that med is not available here not as lotensin on benazepril. What can I sustitute it with?
Avatar f tn It really depends on why your vet put her on Benazepril? Is it for diagnosed high blood pressure - or is it to help the kidneys function better through increased blood flow? Benazepril is a good drug for either, but if it is merely to help the kidneys (in other words, if your dog does not already have high blood pressure), then extreme caution is needed.
1647645 tn?1301337060 For 3yrs I had controlled HT w/Lisin/HCTZ 20/25 & Norvasc 5mg. I was a very healthy 44yo Fe, 4'10 110lbs. In Jan 07 my ins co said they wanted me to switch from Norvasc to Lotrel because they were "the same". My Dr kept me on the Lisin/HCTZ & added Lotrel 5/40. 12 days later I collapsed. At the ER my BP was 56/48, I was discharged 3 hrs later at 80/54. Things haven't been the same since.
Avatar f tn I also found out I have sleep apnea. I am now on 2 otc Prilosecs a day. I also take Lisinopril/HCTZ, 20 mg of Celexa, 1 Lodrane, and two otc Dramamine (that if for the nausea). I stopped taking Ibuprofen over three weeks ago. I thought things were better, but I have thrown up twice in the last week. It seems that I get nauseous after most meals. Most of the time it does not lead to vomiting. Many times I will wake up at 4 or so in the morning to vomit.
Avatar f tn occasionally drink a glass of white wine; exercise 3-4 days per week. My medications are Lotrel 5/20, Spironolactone 25 mg. (I was on HCTZ, however, it caused me to have a skin reaction from the sun so my doctor switched to Spironolactone), Simvastatin 10 mg. and Synthroid 50 mcg. My latest blood test showed my cholesterol has gone up to 209, LDL-C 101, HDL-C 72,Triglycerides 115.
Avatar f tn In June 2008 I went to a neuromuscular doc for manipulation because of traveling aches and pains; she would adjust my hip, spine, etc. and I would feel great for about a minute. The adjustments wouldn't stick. She had an idea that maybe my thyroid was out of whack so off I went for blood work. Oh my goodness I never knew how complicated the thyroid is. I thought - oh, a pill - hurray- I'll magically feel better. In my ignorance I didn't pay much attention to the lab results.
Avatar n tn I was on benazapril for hbp for quite a while, developed a slight dry scratchy cough my doctor described as benazepril cough. He changed me to valsartan last week and thats where the real fun began :-( 3 days on valsartan and I was having horrible side effects of dizziness, rapid heart rate, general feeling of crappiness, even slight shortness of breath with the slightest exertion None of which I experienced with the benazepril.
Avatar n tn These beta blockers caused me so much problem that I requested him to give other medications like HCTZ. Now I am on HCTZ 25 mg. BP stays around 140/77-pulse around 60 but I feel chest pain two hours after taking and bp shoots up in the night off and on. Please help me with your comments and suggestions. Thanks.
Avatar m tn The cardio had also given me an rx for 25 mg metroprolol 2x daily and nitrostat. (this on top of my 30mg benazepril). But my resting pulse rate is typically 47-55, so how low would the metro send it? The cardio said try it as an "experiment." He seems to be continuing to interpret my throat tightening as angina. The throat tightening is a sensation of not being able to physically get enough air across my throat.
Avatar n tn I am taking HCTZ for about 16 days but after 12 days it is causing me chest pain off and on. It starts after 2 hours of taking the tablet and prolongs for another six hours. Can somebody help me on this. My doctor says it doesn't happen with HCTZ. Thanks.
Avatar m tn What are you gonna do? I have been on Triamterene-37.5/HCTZ-25 for ~30 years and Metoprolol Succinate 25mg for about five years now. I have had no problems with diuretics except for dry mouth, but didn't like the Beta-blocker (shortness of breath during exercise, night sweats). My cardiologist weaned my off the Toprol XL over a two week period and put me on Norvasc (a Calcium channel blocker).
Avatar m tn I asked my doctor if Diamox would help with acclimitization and he said yes, but that it would deplete my electrolytes such as potassium and that he would recommend Triamterene/HCTZ 37.5/25 instead. I'm not sure I understand why. I thought Diamox was the medicine of choice for acute mountain sickness (AMS) since it increases oxygen delivery.
481256 tn?1208392293 hydrochlorothiazide will cause you to lose potassium so essentially your levels should not drop. 25 mg is the normal dose for hctz. There are stronger diuretics out there so these are not "too high." If you are worried about lowering your BP, just watch for signs of dizziness, especially with prolonged standing or when you change from a sitting/lying position quickly up to a standing one. If you feel faint, you may want to discontinue the medication.
