Avatar n tn Beta blockers like metoprolol and ACE inhibitors like benazepril have been been shown to be of value in patients with congestive heart failure as well as for hypertension. Simvastatin is of value for patients with both diabetes and heart disease. Talk to your doctor and changes can be made to minimize the side effects.

1004097 tn?1251117610 I have both hypertension and hypothyroidism. I take Benazepril for my blood pressure and am on a combination of levothyroxin (T4 med) and cytomel (T3 med) for the hypothyroidism. I take my levo first thing in the morning (which for me is 3:30 am), then I take the cytomel about 7:00 am to help me get through the day. I take my blood pressure med at the same time I take my cytomel, but benazepril is not a beta blocker, it's an ACE inhibitor. T4 and T3 meds are NOT the same thing.

Avatar f tn It really depends on why your vet put her on Benazepril? Is it for diagnosed high blood pressure - or is it to help the kidneys function better through increased blood flow? Benazepril is a good drug for either, but if it is merely to help the kidneys (in other words, if your dog does not already have high blood pressure), then extreme caution is needed.

Last year, my primary referred me to a Cardio for a 24 hour Holter for palpitations. The cardiologists' comment on the ECG was "non specific ST and T wave changes." This May, after resuming regular exercise (daily 2.
Avatar m tn While living in the US I was using Benazepril 40 mg, but now I'm living in Ecuador and that med is not available here not as lotensin on benazepril. What can I sustitute it with?
Avatar n tn I was on benazapril for hbp for quite a while, developed a slight dry scratchy cough my doctor described as benazepril cough. He changed me to valsartan last week and thats where the real fun began :-( 3 days on valsartan and I was having horrible side effects of dizziness, rapid heart rate, general feeling of crappiness, even slight shortness of breath with the slightest exertion None of which I experienced with the benazepril.
Avatar n tn I took lantus throughout treatment. However, my doctor pulled me off metformin because it sometimes messes with ALT levels, making it difficult to get an accurate picture of how liver enzymes respond to tx. I ate so little during tx, and a lot of it was ice cream. Nevertheless, for some reason - despite all the sugar in ice cream - my A1c was better during tx than it ever was before or after.
Avatar n tn I have been using Cialis 10mg every other day for almost 1 year over the past 3-6 months I have been having trouble reaching a climax. After checking up on my other medications (Nexium and Benazepril 5mg) I have come to a conculsion that the problem is being caused by Cialis. Can you give me any supporting information?
Avatar n tn I am 75. I take 75 mg of atenolol and 40 mg of benazepril hcl every day. I had an echo stress test (speed increases every two minutes) and at 6 minutes my blood pressure starting falling so the test was stopped and the doctor said sometimes with blood pressure medicine that happens. Avatar f tn I have started taking Norvasc for Hypertension and am having side effects such as nausea, headache, and it seems to be causing some eye pain and pressure. My concern is that I had retinal detachment surgery in March of 2008 and have not had any pain until I started taking Norvasc 5mg. daily. Is this a side effect that is normal and will it subside or is it a reason to discontinue this drug?
Avatar n tn My 79 year old mother, who lives in another state, is on medication for hypertension. She takes Carvedilol, Diovan, Dilitiazem, and Clonidine. Her doctor even talked about putting her on a fifth medicine. I'm not a doctor, but it doesn't make sense to me for anyone to have that many different prescriptions for one problem.
Avatar m tn Currently I am on multiple of 3 BP pills for 6 or more depending on how high my BP goes, and 2 of 1 relaxent pill. Is there any value in getting acunpuncture to lower my BP. I'm only having a problem with the stystolic number mainly ranging between 150 and 220. If yes, is there a good site to go for a qualified acupuncturist for hypertention in the Detroit area? Also, I've had all the tests listed on webmd and more for hypertension, nothing was found wrong over the last 15 years.
Avatar n tn I also have what appears to be refractory hypertension. One year ago, when hypertension was dx, an echocardiogram indicated only mild regurgitation of the mitral, aortic, and tricuspid valves. My physician, at this time (EP for pacemaker), said this would go away once BP was controlled. Over a year later, despite seeing a hypertension specialist and trying many different drug regimines, BP still remains high.
Avatar m tn I certainly agree with is_,,, Trying to find the silver bullet, so to speak, has been a search since Heck was a pup, and Dante's Inferno has a place in hell for those who propose nostrums for profit reasons. I'd suggest you follow conventional medications, they have certainly extended my life beyond my expectations. Frankly, to disregard a doctor's prescription to follow an internet threat to me is reckless behavior. You have a serious disease and it is time to face it.
Avatar f tn My blood pressure sometimes goes really low, too. I called the doctor one day when it was 93/61; the nurse said that it should not go below 95/60, but if I don't have symptoms, it was probably okay; then she said if I had any symptoms at all, I needed to call an ambulance and go to the hospital. I've had hypertension for years and am on benazepril and atenolol to control it.

Avatar n tn Good for you for quitting smoking, coffee, and high salt intake--and for losing weight. Are you physically active on a regular basis (like walking 30-45 minutes 5 or 6 times a week)? Exercise may help to bring your blood pressure down. Also, do you drink milk or eat yogurt every day? Because they have calcium in them, these foods can help control blood pressure, too. (Nonfat types are best, and look for yogurt that has Vitamin D listed on the label.) What about alcohol use?
Avatar n tn Thank you for your answer. I am waiting for the results of the Echocardiagram which I will find out about on August 4th. It seems the report was sent to India to be typed which really surprised me. Quite honestly, I am still frightened. I don't have chest pain and I swim every day but I don't know if that means I am ok. You mentioned my taking a daily ASA. What is that? I assume you are a doctor. I never wrote to MedHelp before so this is new to me.
