While living in the US I was using Benazepril 40 mg, but now I'm living in Ecuador and that med is not available here not as lotensin on benazepril.
What can I sustitute it with?
On May 12, I stopped taking HCTZ. I had read that some had had problems with HCTZ and sweating. Gradually, I seemed to have less sweating. Also, the feeling of being hot most of the time seemed to lessen. It is summer, and I do get hot, but others are hot, also. When I do sweat, it seems like a more normal sweat. I don't have sweat pouring down my face and into my eyes as much as I did, and my clothes don't become as wet.
7 weeks ago, after getting quarterly labs done, my PCP said my calcium was too high and took me off the HCTZ. She also said my TSH levels were high and placed me on synthroid. Last week I had office visit and my BP was 150/90. My doctor then put me on metaprolol. I started getting headaches every day. My BP remained at 150 to 160 over 90 to 100. After an office visit today she ordered hydralazine be added to my growing list of meds.
I used HCTZ for 10 years to control my blood calcium. Last year, I got one morning and my heart rate when up to 128. My endo took me off HCTZ and my internal put me on Lopressor. I contued having a high heart rate after HCTZ was out of my system. This year, I was put back on HCTZ due to high urine calcium content but I could not tolerate the drug at all. Even though I was taking Lopressor, I had several instances where my heart went crazy and the beat shot up to 128-146.
Good Morning! I'm hoping someone here can help me a little. I was on benazapril for hbp for quite a while, developed a slight dry scratchy cough my doctor described as benazepril cough. He changed me to valsartan last week and thats where the real fun began :-( 3 days on valsartan and I was having horrible side effects of dizziness, rapid heart rate, general feeling of crappiness, even slight shortness of breath with the slightest exertion None of which I experienced with the benazepril.
All drugs, not just Benazepril, cause issues for the kidneys. Why? Because most drugs are metabolized in the digestive system and waste by-products need to be cleared out of the system by the kidneys. Most of the by-products are toxic, so they have to be removed from the body - and the already damaged kidneys can find this work hard to perform, so some toxins end up circulating back in the bloodstream.
Benazepril, thankfully, is metabolized chiefly by the liver.
I was on HCTZ for awhile, and I was having similar issues. I don't know if it was chest pain exactly, but I was having some chest-related issues. Turns out HCTZ was causing my potassium levels to drop. Spoke to the dr, got off the HCTZ, and felt better. Sometimes the diuretics take out a little too much.
I've been lactating and wasn't sure if I was pregnant. My doctor did a blood test to see if I was and also did a hormone test to see why I was lactating if by chance I wasn't pregnant. Also at that visit she put me on hctz because I've been retaining water and wanted me to take it every other day. She called yesterday morning to let me know that I am in fact pregnant, this was after I had just taken the hctz. She of course toldme not to take it anymore..

First, Im glad that your blood pressure is better controlled and it sounds like you and your doctor have agreed that you dont need HCTZ. If your symptoms were due to HCTZ, they should have corrected themselves relatively soon after you stopped it. It sounds like they continued. Im quite concerned that your symptoms sound suspicious for urinary tract infection or other bladder associated problems. I dont feel comfortable attributing it to the HCTZ.
Went to Doctor on Wednesday. I've been lactating and suspect pregnancy but maybe not. Dr. put me on HCTZ for fluid retention cause I've gained 20 lbs since January and also did lab work to see if pregnant and check my hormones to see if I'm not pregnant why I would be lactating. Got a call Friday- she said I'm pregnant- stop taking HCTZ. I had already made an appointment with my other Dr.
The cardio had also given me an rx for 25 mg metroprolol 2x daily and nitrostat. (this on top of my 30mg benazepril). But my resting pulse rate is typically 47-55, so how low would the metro send it? The cardio said try it as an "experiment." He seems to be continuing to interpret my throat tightening as angina. The throat tightening is a sensation of not being able to physically get enough air across my throat.
I am 75. I take 75 mg of atenolol and 40 mg of benazepril hcl every day. I had an echo stress test (speed increases every two minutes) and at 6 minutes my blood pressure starting falling so the test was stopped and the doctor said sometimes with blood pressure medicine that happens. He said my heart was fine. I had a by-pass 12 years ago. So do I have to worry?
2. It is ok to take both an ACE and ARB and there have been some trials using both for blood pressure management. We just have to be very careful and watch your kidney function because both medications can affect the kidney funtion so make sure your physician checks your kidney function 1-2 weeks after being on both medications.

I am so confused because I have too many issues that can cause the same symptoms. Recently, my doctor switched me from Valsartan HCTZ to Hydrochlorothiazide plus regular Valsartan for my blood pressure. When I first started it, right away I was having rapid heart beat and shortness of breath so he told me take potassium supplements. That did help but now I am wondering if I am taking too much potassium.
I took lantus throughout treatment. However, my doctor pulled me off metformin because it sometimes messes with ALT levels, making it difficult to get an accurate picture of how liver enzymes respond to tx. I ate so little during tx, and a lot of it was ice cream. Nevertheless, for some reason - despite all the sugar in ice cream - my A1c was better during tx than it ever was before or after.
Found out I am allergic to HCTZ (they were supposed to have caught that since I have documented six ways to Sunday about almost dying from a sulfa drug and HCTZ is a thiazide (thi = sulfur). (108 F fever and 6 months in the hospital). I did not focus on the drug composition since my file was so well documented. Live and learn. :)
Among the HCTZ symptoms were abdominal cramps (labor intensity), diarrhea, nausea and vomiting for hours within 45 minutes of taking the pill.
My toes do not turn white but do turn a puplish red color . Is it bad that im on a beta blocker for blood pressure the medician is Bisoprolol/HCTZ ?

I have been having a constant chest pounding and pain radiating all over my left and right breast area, all tests done proved negative for heart condition but the pain rather than decreasing, seem to be increasing in intensity. I am on LISINOPRIL-HCTZ 20-25MG and BYSTOLIC for HBP I am also on PRAVASTATIN for Cholesterol. I recently had to stop the Bystolic because my heart rate was low between 45-62.
