Bactroban nasal mrsa

Common Questions and Answers about Bactroban nasal mrsa

bactroban

Avatar m tn I used the mupiricin.(Bactroban) to keep the nasal blisters moist. Now diagnosed with post-herpetic neuralgia, but I still have blisters in my nose treating with Bactroban. The original sore that was on my cheek never dried out, instead shrinking from the Bactroban. I am still suffering these and other new symptoms and I wonder if the original sore might be keeping the virus active since it never naturally resolved. Someone PLEASE help me. Thank you.
Avatar m tn But she did say that as a carrier, MRSA sticks around, sometimes, needlessly. She is attempted to rid it completely with a 30 day nasal spray mixture of saline and Bactroban (compounded). She said since my staph infections (another issue, did't mention) start in nasal passages, the spray is the only way to attack it IF IT is located in the upper nasal passages.
974371 tn?1424653129 Next day the one on my arm was filled up again so called my PCP. He did a culture, prescribed generic Bactrim and generic Bactroban. I did as instructed and just finished the Bactrim. ( good thing I took it! I hate taking meds). Anyway, doctor called me this evening to say it was Staph/MRSA and the Bactrim was the right antibiotic. Scared the hell out of me ( ESP with all the news coverage of that poor girl).
Avatar f tn My MD started me on Bactrum 800 mg BID for 3 weeks and Bactroban nasal solution. I do sinus washes often and have increased recently. Any other suggestions?
Avatar f tn I have been to 3 different ENTs, one tested me for staph - came back moderate staph (not MRSA) and took Keflex for 10 days-no improvement. Tested again 5 days after last culture and came back negative. Said I should use Bacitracin for a year as Bactroban burned. (I am allergic to all antibiotics but 2 and most other drugs-happens over time) 2nd ENT said Bacitracin irritates and easy to get allergic to it. Already allergic to Neosporin.
Avatar n tn The doctor said it was strep throat, and the nurse practitioner says its something called MRSA. I should get the swab results back on Monday! Everything I have read, and all the pictures I have seen, do suggest that this is MRSA after-all.. You have to tell the doctor to swab the nose because this can be a very fatal thing! They have started me on Bactrim DS oral antibiotic and a cream called mupirocin 2% ointment 22GM that you put in the nose with a q-tip..
Avatar n tn ( Do you know anything that will help me rid myself of this mrsa mess!!! I will be going in to the Dr. tomm to see about bactroban for my nose. I use dial regularly & keep a clean & disinfected home! ***** but I'm not gonna let it ruin my life. I have 3 beautiful sons & a loving Husband. All gifts from God! Any thing you can tell me I would appreciate. Again Thank You for all you do!
Avatar n tn I work in an outpatient surgery center. We have never had a MRSA case but the Dr.'s are increasingly concerned about the rise in MRSA cases nationally. We are contemplating changing our prep to include betadine solution diluted with sterile saline placed in the cul-de-sac and left for 30 seconds. Any input?
Avatar n tn This complicated problem has no easy answer. Among the questions I would have is are you a carrier of MRSA (i.e. have you had a nasal culture for staph, do you have any ongoing open wounds that might harbor staph). Your massive weight loss immediately says that the quality of your skin and underlying tissues is not normal or necessarily healthy. An infectious disease specialist might also be a resource to consult with about prophylactic antibiotic coverage.
Avatar n tn My daughter who is just graduated high school has had 4 cases of MRSA in the last 12 months. She was last treated with a nasal antibiotic; twice daily for 5 days. While cleaning her room I found 3 unused doses... will this make the treatment less effective & can the MRSA return? She also wants to get her belly button pierced which I think is unwise given her recent health history. Am I overreacting & what are the potential health risks?
Avatar f tn Mupirocin is the same as Bactroban. It is a nasal compound that my ENT has mixed for sinus infections. The eye is sore today. I have little vision in the eye. However, its pressure has risen, in the last few months, from from about 0 to fifteen. I will call my retinologist. Thank you.
Avatar f tn my baby had swabs and has been given anti biotics which is a nasal gel and a body wash... It is for mrsa... does that mean he will have re occurring mrsa forever or is it just that he has some of the bodies that are found in mrsa on him? Any advice please? Also surely if he has mrsa here is a high chance like myself and partner now also have it?
Avatar m tn Hi all, I have had this nasty skin infection for over 4 years now that won't go away. I believe I got it at a university dorm (which had black mold and other unsanitary things). It forms primarily on my arms as red boils (generally comes to the surface like a pimple) with inflammation and pus, takes months to heal, and quickly multiplies into multiple sores. Though generally on the arms, it has also spread to my chest, legs, and even cheek in past (active sores currently on arms).
Avatar n tn I have to go and have swabs done for MRSA tomorrow, has anyone had them? If so, where did they swab?

Avatar f tn I have been on an antibiotic for 4 days now for some type of bacertial infection that showed up in a nasal swab. My body temperature is 76.5F. I had a flu/H1N1 shot in Oct. or early Nov. Do I need to see someone over the weekend for treatment? P.S. I had open heart surgery in July 2010 to replace the mitral valve.
Avatar m tn So to be clear you have had your nose tested for the bacteria to check for Staphylococcus aureus or MRSA (resistant Staph)? Have they said you have MRSA as opposed to regular not resistant staph? It sounds like a resistant staph to me. Staph aureus cause boils, furuncles, and folliculitis and other problems. Do you see any scabs or sores on your skin that have a hair growing out of them? So I wonder if you have folliculitis, which is infection of the hair follicle?
Avatar n tn A friend of mine was admitted to have pypass surgery and having spent 5 days on CCU he was transferred for one night on to a filthy ward prior to being taken to another Hospital where the surgery would be carried out. He was subsequently diagnosed with colonised MRSA after having a nasal swob.
Avatar m tn my mother has mrsa and i with hep c. should i be careful being around my mother?
Avatar m tn ENT said I had some colonies in nose soUsed Bacrtoban for 3 days and slight pain in my nose went away per ENT. I stopped the bactroban after 3 days because I was not sleeping but I was also using Nasocort and maybe that was the culprit. Cold gone sinus not infected but having some pain that feels like a tooth ache and slight tickle or sting in nostrils when breathing. Left septum is a little enlarged.
Avatar n tn Staph bacteria apparently can be or go anywhere, but most commonly deals with skin. The MRSA, is a staph bug which developed strength against antibiotics through past wars, its offspring passed on to other people. The reason that one is serious is due to the fact that it resists antibiotics, thus can kill if it moves into a bloodstream, organ or hits someone with low immue system. Doing illigal drugs in the past (can) affect someones over all immune system strength.
Avatar f tn I continue with pain in the left buttock muscle, as well as most of my other joints. I tested positive for MRSA (nasal swab) and also tested positive for MRSA on my right ankle "rash". I finished 14 days of Doxycycline, the rash is somewhat better. The sores on the buttock were cultured and showed enterococcus faecalis (normal per the ID doc)...I'm at the end of my rope because nobody can give me any answers to my situation....fibromyalgia?
1712590 tn?1352392772 Have had nasal surgery deviated septum, also have asthma, migraines, and sinus problems.
Avatar f tn Follow the package insert. And see if they go away. Mupirocin (Bactroban) topical will also kill MRSA (I think this is prescription only). So there are lots of topicals that can kill it if you actually got it. They probably would give you an oral pill if you are not allergic to sulfa drugs Bactrim works and many other antibiotics. So try not to worry just because it could be MRSA. I think you just have pimples.
Avatar m tn MRSA? I am 65 and live alone. I don't have illnesses [arthritis & hypothyroid]. Pre-surgically [for knee replacement] I had a nasal swab for Staph. IT WAS Positive!?! It was "colonized" or whatever. But between knowing this and never in my life ever having surgery caused me debilitating anxiety. I was given ointment to apply intra-nasally 2X a day for 5 days. I cancelled my left Total knee. My family is shunning me. I feel like a leper.
Avatar n tn For a very long time, a medicine called vancomycin has been the treatment of choice for infection with Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Now, other medicines seem to be more effective, including teicoplanin and linezolid. You might want to discuss this with her doctors and ask if consultation with an infectious disease specialist might be appropriate, given that this may be a recurrent Staph infection.
