Avatar f tn Hello, Your symptoms are suggestive of hives. Hives (medically known as urticaria) are red, itchy, raised areas of skin that appear in varying shapes and sizes. They have a tendency to change size rapidly and to move around, disappearing in one place and reappearing in other places, often in a matter of hours. Many cases of hives are "idiopathic," meaning no cause is known. Others may be triggered by viral infections or medications. Treatment is by oral antihistamines.

1139187 tn?1355706647 I had a lot of those same side effects plus hives and pain in my calves like ants biting. I'll probably have to get a cortisone shot to get over the hives. Doctor didn't say what to do after injection, just come back for the next one. I refused the next one and am afraid to take anymore. The only question he asked: was I allergic to eggs or chicken. Well, I eat both, so did not expect a reaction. Would have rather had the cortisone shot to the knee!

Avatar f tn Would it not make much more sense to FIND the food or foods that cause the HIVES and just not eat those? Check into what the side effects are of long term use of histimine blockers ( even if your doctors told you there ARE NO side effects.) ALL drugs have side effects, period. You can have a FOOD PANEL done, a simple blood test, to identify what food particles are in your blood that may be causing the issue of the hives.
