Azithromycin ngu

Common Questions and Answers about Azithromycin ngu

zithromax

Avatar m tn Would the azithromycin clear up eith NGU or gonorrhea? I have read that a single dose of 2g is recommended and I am taking 1.5 g over 5 days. 3. If the azithromycin would not be sufficient to clear anything up, should I wait to be tested? In other words, could the antibiotic have an impact on test results? Thank you.
Avatar m tn I told him about the recommended therapy for NGU and had him RX me 1mg of Azithromycin which he told me that I could use "if I wanted to". However he wanted me to start Bactrim right away. I feel somewhat left in a limbo. My concern is that I didn't get the right antibiotic and that any bacteria infection could spread throughout the system; kidneys etc.
Avatar n tn They can try azithromycin and see if its just NGU first. Call your local health dept and ask what services they offer for people without insurance.
Avatar m tn I went to the STD clinic in London and they said I had NSU (ie they could see some sort of imflamation cells, but not what was causing it) and treated me with Azithromycin 1g taken as a single dose. After a week I still had burning when I pee. So I went back and they took a cell sample from my urethea and said this was positive for Chlamydia. They also took two urine samples, the first but and middle bit (I had not passed urine for over 3 hours before this sample).
Avatar n tn Thanks for your prompt reply. I am glad you think the 2 g of azithromycin would address NGU and gonorrhea. I have had some mucus stands in my urine for 2-3 months (if not longer) which started before my sexual risk exposures I outlined. This could be prostatitis. Looking at today's posts, you had a lot of similar questions today. Thanks again!
Avatar n tn In your attempted new thread, you said you are in really remote circumstances and asked in part: "Can we take 500mg first day then 500 azithromycin in 2nd day to be sure. we have capsules can we mix the capsule mix inside into our drinks as just can't stomach tablets or capsules; "also I can get someone to post medicine for ngu. what is it? quantity, azithromycin does it work for ngu as well.
Avatar n tn I suspect that the medication you received was azithromycin which is a recommended therapy for NGU (as is doxycycline). More and more health care providers use azithromycin because if is easier to take (you just take it once instead of for a week). Studies show that this therapy is just as effective as doxy for NGU. As I read your story, I find myself wondering if your NGU was actually an STD.
Avatar m tn Sorry, forgot to add that visited another doctor after that (now about week ago) and without re-test, he prescribed me 1g Azithromycin to be taken at once. If the first medication did not cure Ngu, could I expect that Azithromycin would have done it by now?
Avatar m tn the role of the bacteria you mention is not clear, particularly in NGU following oral sex.. It is thought that NGU, as indicated by symptoms and the presence of WBCs results from the introduction of oral/throat bacteria into the urethra during oral sex. It most often does respond to either azithromycin, given as a single 1.0 gram dose or to doxycycline, 100 mg twice daily for 7 days. I don't know what you would do with a PCR test.
Avatar n tn Perhaps suggests that you shold have a longer course of azithromycin although if the azithromycin was helping the biaxin should have had the same effect - they are closely related. I think you are going to have to work through this with your doctor.
Avatar m tn "1-2 months" is quite long for NGU, and NGU usually causes discharge as the main symptom, not just urethral pain like you describe. While the STD clinic's diagnosis has to be respected, I believe there is a good chance you have prostatitis -- entirely unrelated to sexual exposures of any kind. Or perhaps you have gonorrhea. However, if you have NGU acquired from oral sex, it's probably more an inconvenience than a serious health risk.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed recently with NGU and prescribed 1g of Azithromycin. It has now been 6 days and the symptoms (dysuria & discharge - esp in morning) are persisting. Should I be concerned that the antibiotic is not working and seek further/alternative treatment?
Avatar m tn Your trimethoprim may have been effective therapy for your NGU (has not been well studied) and the azithromycin you took is recommended therapy for the disorder. Had you had sexually acquired NGU, you have been effectively treated. My guess however is that you did not have an STD. As for your specific questions: 1. The trimethoprim may have caused some cultures to be negative but, as I said above, the therapy you received is the recommended therapy.
Avatar m tn 2) Would the azithromycin dosage he prescribed remedy NGU if I did have it? If this dosage would not cure NGU, am I able to immediately go to a STD clinic to get tested (while on azithromycin) or do I need to wait for a period after finishing the medicine to get accurately checked and tested? 3) Does alcohol diminish the effect of azithromycin ? I say this because I had 4 drinks one night two days after beginning the medicine. 4) Can NGU be passed to women?
Avatar m tn Hi 2 months ago I had unprotected sex, few weeks later I got urethral itching and irritation between voids, burning sensation and urethral pain. I was cured with 1g of Azithromycin. One month later I did unprotected Oral sex, 2 days later the previous symptoms returned. I got again 1g of Azithromycin. This time I had only few days of some relief, however, the symptoms returned. In both cases I have tested for chlamydia infection but nothing found. In the first test Leucocytes were fond.
Avatar n tn 1) Is it likely I infected my long-term partner with NGU or with something else? Sex was well after the azithromycin, but before my current 10 day course of doxycycline. 2) How reliable is a trich swab test? One doct I saw claimed it isn't reliable at all. 3) If I don't have the infections usually associated with causing NGU, what has caused this? And what exactly could I have passed to my girlfriend if I still had NGU symptoms when we had sex? 4) What does doxy treat exactly?
Avatar m tn Azithromycin in a dose of 1000 mg is one of the recommended therapies for NGU. the other is doxycycline, 100 mg twice daily for 7 days.
Avatar n tn You have been tested not only for the most common bacteria associated with urethral infection (gonorrhea and chlamydia) and found to have negative tests, you have had your genital secretions examined for white blood cells (NGU or NSU, the terms are synonymous) and you have received azithromycin in a dose which would cure NGU, chlamydia and the majority of gonorrhea infections.
Avatar m tn Gonorrhea seems to be a slight possibility, and NGU seems the most probable. Anything else? What about the medicine I took? Is there any chance I would still feel this discomfort even if my infection was cured? The best I can do is see a doctor in 12 days when I am transferred. This is in a third world country, and from what I hear, the doctor is far from up to modern standards (seems 2g of Azithromax is his answer for everyone).
Avatar n tn Please advise. Can NGU be transmitted by just rubbing? Is there any HIV risk from my practices when it is NGU/std? Should my urethra be looked at due to the several cases of NGU? It really hurts me because I thought I was acting as responsible as possible without completely abstaining from sex.... And through i try to repress it, it makes me worry again about bigger things (hiv) then is maybe necessary.
Avatar m tn Since your gonorrhea test was negative before you took antibiotics, I presume you hand nongonococcal NGU. Azithromycin is the recommended treatment and cures over 95% of NGU. The resolution of your symptoms suggests that you were cured and there is little reason for concern. If the clear discharge is regular, it may be in your interest to get a urine or swab test for whitle blood cells. If either of these is positive, you may need re-treatment.
