Azithromycin for whooping cough

Common Questions and Answers about Azithromycin for whooping cough

zithromax

Avatar f tn It was good that your doctor considered whooping cough (Pertussis) as a possibility because there has been a great increase whooping cough in adults, in recent years and Azithromycin is the treatment of choice. You may have to take more than one 4 day course of the drug to get maximum benefit. Also your description of a cough lasting several minutes is most typical of this disease.
Avatar f tn Thanks for these suggestions! I asked the doctor would he do a sputum culture but he said "They're not very accurate." I am definitely having less cough, both yesterday and today, but there's plenty of phlegm moving around in there, still, and I'm still getting some cough paroxym in the evening.
Avatar f tn I am kind of nervous because I am a smoker and have been for over 20 years. My co-workers swore it was whooping cough, but I do not really have any of the symptoms other than the coughing. Has anyone else experienced this type of cough?
10777943 tn?1412955415 I got both flu and tdap. Whooping cough is an epidemic where I live. I have my kids up to date on their vaccines, and my husband will get his tdap before the baby is born. I will also be limiting contact with anyone who hasn't got a whooping cough vaccine, until he gets his vaccine. There's a lot of "research studies" out there saying vaccines do more harm than good, but I don't by into it. Why put the baby at risk? That is my opinion.
1834473 tn?1318445505 my 2 year old has had a cough for 3 weeks now it sounds like whooping cough to me but to my understanding you only get it once right this is the 3 rd time she's had a cough like this since she was born and there was a case of whooping cough at her daycare so could she have it? she doesn't make the whooping sound but does make a choking sound sometimes its so severe shes gasping right after she finishes coughing.
142452 tn?1262032675 s no pneumonia- as if only pneumonia were life threatening), a prescription for azithromycin and more codeine cough syrup. To be frank, I hate their guts. They totally didn't help me, didn't look at my charts, didn't make anything stable or anything better. My doctor had told me to go. But they didn't help. They told me I had a cold and gave me antibiotics and another inhaler. I'm still blown away by their total lack of competence.
Avatar f tn They are both highly recommended to help protect both you and baby. Whooping cough is far more serious for the baby to get than for you to get, but the flu is dangerous for both of you.
250701 tn?1320974765 I trwated it with Azithromycin, and it cleared up, has your Doctor prescribed this antibiotic for your cough,it is only a 5 day round (comes in a pack) ..
Avatar m tn You said it in your description: "whooping noise." Everyone in my family has had this Whooping Cough, a.k.a Pertussis, this season. It started with my 16-yr.-old; then to my 1-yr-old (vomit inducing), then my husband and me. It skipped my 2 1/2 yr. old, but he also had an extended high fever, which must have killed the bacteria. I only realized it was whooping cough today.
Avatar f tn I've had a cough for 40 days now, It seems to be getting better but I'm not sure? It's worse in the cold or air conditioning, great in the heat. My doctor has tried an inahaler, azithromycin, prednisone, claritin, prilosec & even a chest x-ray (which came back normal). I really don't have any other symptoms except it occasionally hurts to swallow (more on the right side of my throat) and I also have some drainage from my head and down my throat. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Do we get a vaccin for a whooping cough? I am 27 yrs old just wondering will i be immune after vaccination. This discussion is related to Whooping cough recurring?.
Avatar f tn Sometimes our Dr's will ask if we have had the flu shot, and I answer no, and that we won't be getting it and they leave it at that. I haven't been asked about the whooping cough one yet though.
973741 tn?1342342773 We have an outbreak of whooping cough at our school in the area. It caused me to do a little reading. How long does the whooping cough vaccine actually cover you? My reading indicates that it does start to wear off. When are boosters recommended for teens and adults?
Avatar f tn the doctors are saying this is pretty normal for whooping cough. But it is scaring the day lights out of me and I need some advise about what I should do.
Avatar n tn Thank you so much for your reply, she has had two lots of antibiotics, she was put on amoxicillin first then clarythromicin (sp?
Avatar f tn s always a chance that an infant, or anyone for that matter can get whooping cough. Once a person gets whooping cough, it cause your airways to swell making it harder to breathe, but since babies have such small airways anyways it is extremely fatal. My little brother was lucky he didn't die.
Avatar f tn I also got the shot for whooping cough but not the flu shot. My doctor says that she is for vaccines that thwy know what they are treating and that a newborn can't be treated for whooping cough until after 2 months old. They suggest it every pregnancy because you as the mother produce antibodies that pass thru the placenta to the baby to protect them.
Avatar f tn I was never vaccinated for it amd actually got whooping cough a few years ago. It was so terrible! I was sick for two months straight and sometimes I would cough so hard I would pass out. Now imagine going through that during pregnancy which already has its own difficulties. I would say get it, but that's just from my experience.
Avatar f tn I'm guessing they are talking about the vaccine. What do you mean ask others to get it? Are you gonna ask everyone that wants to see the baby to go get vaccinated? You can maybe ask people that want to visit the baby if they have had the booster shots...and just make sure no one is sick when they visit. If anyone has a cough or anything tell them not to visit. I think they vaccinate pretty early for whooping cough so the baby should be protected.
Avatar f tn If you are not vaccinated against whooping cough you can carry it and pass it to the baby.
215342 tn?1287838418 Hello all! I am hoping there are some here with some knowledge about Whooping Cough. I went to the doctor on Monday of this week (5 days ago) and was told I probably have bronchitis, although if I didn't respond to antibiotics, he wanted to test me for Whooping Cough. He put me on Levaquin because I am allergic to Erithromycin. I have not improved significantly. I'm wondering two things... 1. Does it sound like whooping cough? 2.
Avatar f tn It can't give you whooping cough. Its made with only part of a dead bacteria so there is no way for you to actually develop pertussis from the vaccine. There is also no way to shed the disease either which is another rumor people like to spread.
Avatar f tn I've lost a baby also but I did do the flu and I did do the other vaccines that they recommended purely because anything I can do to prevent anything when the babies here or even now I'd rather do than wonder if it's because I didn't get the shoT.
Avatar f tn I guess the real question is why you're putting it off? When women become pregnant there are changes in the immune system, heart and lungs that make you more susceptible to severe illness with the flu virus. It can even cause serious issues like premature labor for the baby. So, by protecting yourself you're also protecting your baby and even after the baby is born. It's the same idea with whooping cough.
Avatar f tn I got both. The whooping cough vaccine is not for you. It's too help baby. Whooping cough is fatal to infants if they catch it and they can't get the vaccine until they are 2 months old. If you don't get it while pregnant thats 2 months baby is unprotected. Plus whooping cough is on the rise because people aren't vaccinating.
Avatar m tn There has been an outbreak of Whooping Cough where I live. I have a 2 month old daughter and I am concerned about her being exposed. She received her first dose of the vaccine last week. I am wondering how much this helps protect her from the disease. Also, what are symptoms I should look out for? Thank you!
