Avatar n tn Patients with a patent foramen ovale are not at an increased risk of endocarditis and antibiotic prophylaxis is not indicated. For those who have had their PFO closed with a transcatheter device, endocarditis prevention is recommended for at least 6 months following the device implant.
Avatar f tn recommendationId=257 For infective endocarditis prophylaxis, current guidelines support premedication for only a relatively small subset of patients: history of prosthetic heart valve or past valve repair with prosthetic materials; prior infective endocarditis; unrepaired cyanotic congenital heart disease, including palliative shunts and conduits; repaired congenital heart defect with residual shunts or valvular regurgitation at the site of or adjacent to the site of a prosthetic patch or a pro
Avatar m tn Should I worry for endocarditis because of those 3 days? Will the amooxiline I took afterthe 3 days for 7 days kill any bacteria which could have entered my heart? My family doctor annd the dentists told me not to worry, but i am hypocondriac and need more assurance...
12182312 tn?1427683956 American Heart Association no longer recommends endocarditis antibiotic prophylaxis during dental procedures for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. However, some cardiologists still recommended it especially if you have Left Ventricular Outflow Tract obstruction. You may wish to discuss this with your cardiologist.
Avatar m tn yes while waiting, i called a doctor and pharmacist about it; they said amoxil does not vary when it comes to weight and that there is no resistance to it meaning my chances of contracting endocarditis are practically nonexistent on them, it's mostly fear; I mean I just bled from my mouth earlier cause I cut myself with dental floss and was panicking about bacteria even though i bled many times before.
Avatar f tn per the latest American Heart Association guidelines, antibiotic prophylaxis for endocarditis (a severe infection of the heart) is no longer recommended for MR, nor is it recommended for gastrointestinal procedures.
Avatar m tn is not a significant finding and also does not warrant any concern for antibiotic prophylaxis or increasing your risk of developing endocarditis (infection of the heart valves).
Avatar f tn There are heart coditions that require prophylaxis to prevent bacterial endocarditis. Most cardiac conditions requiring prophylaxis (antibiotic) will fall into the following category. High risk: ...."Acquired valvular heart disease (such as rheumatic heart disease, valvular stenosis and regurgitation). ....MVP with regurgitation and/or myxomatous leaflets. ...Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy". As stated by ed34 there is very little risk with mild regurgitation ...
Avatar m tn I went to a local clinic to get get evaluated and was given 1g of Azithromycin and 400mg of Cefixime as prophylaxis - was not indicated for PEP (HIV). All was going well until this morning I work up with an burning feeling in my penis head and on 'milking' a creamy colored liquid came out (like thick pre-cum) - is it possible that after 10 days these drugs didnt work for a new STI infection?
Avatar n tn Today I am urinating frequently (I am drinking aqua) and have burning urination. A friend (medical student) said me take azithromycin 2gr one dosis for prophylaxis for others STD's (Gonorrhea - chlamydia) Could it be HIV?? Is my friend right?? Should I be tested?? Thanks.
Avatar n tn While there I was taking ciprofloxacin and azithromycin 500 mg daily for prophylaxis. Two days after returning, I noticed mild burning on urination, and next day there was a clear to slightly yellow discharge, in small amounts. I saw my doctor who gave me 2mg of azithromycin plus 500mg for 3 days in addition to cefixime 400mg x 2 tablets the first day followed by 400mg per day for 3 days. The dysuria worsened, however.
1569985 tn?1328247482 I have been told after taking antiobiotics for many years before dental work, that the current theory is they are not needed, even though I have a mild mitral regurge. I also am on coumadin and antibiotics apparently interacts with that drug. I need my teeth cleaned very badly -- I have put it off because I've not felt up to it, and I know it is important for heart health to take care of my teeth.
Avatar n tn is he going to die, because he can,t get the surgery?I am at a los for my son.I have no Idea of what to do for him?maybe you could give me some idea of what to do?. Thank you for all the help you might be able to give me. It better than what ythe hosptial gave me.A WORRIED MOM.
Avatar f tn I have frequent palpitations and do see a Cardiologist for this. Ive had 2 echos that was normal other than some trivial regurgitation. I was born with a heart murmur that the doctor told my parents would go away and was nothing to worry about. I had 4 wisdom teeth removed on the 15th of this month. A couple days ago I developed a high fever that lasted only about 24 hrs. I have also had some coughing/sneezing, leg aches, neck soreness.
Avatar f tn I now suffer from permanent atrial fibrillation, and take warfarin, an anticoagulant. I have to stop taking that for any surgery, even for a colonoscopy (in case polyps are removed, and they always are), but that is a concern about too much bleeding. I don't take an antibiotic for surgery either, and if I had wisdom teeth (or even wisdom, ha! ) I'm sure they could be removed without me taking antibiotics.
Avatar n tn The left ventricle was normal in size with overall Grade I systolic function. Normal diastolic filling. The right ventricle was normal in size and function. The aortic valve was trileaflet and normal with no regurgitation. The ascending aorta was normal in size. The mitral valve leaflets were normal. There was trace physiological mitral regurgitation. The left and right atria were normal. The pulmonary valve was with no regurgitation. The tricuspid valve was normal.
Avatar n tn He was surprised the hospital didnt prescribe a course of antibiotics and antivirals as a precautionary measure, so he prescribed a 5 day course of Acyclovir with 400mgX3times a day as a preventative measure for any herpes infection and Azithromycin 400mg once a day for 3 days for Chlamydia. He then proceeded to give me the blood test for HIV and HSV (again I dont know why, if they dont show up that early. Maybe to shut me up).
Avatar n tn Based on my reading of the literature, absolutely any outcome is possible, in regard to dental infections and endocarditis. You can get endocarditis or not get endocarditis from a dental infection. You can get endocarditis or not get endocarditis in the absence of a dental infection. Having pre-existing valve disease puts you at higher risk than people who don't have valve disease, but contracting endocarditis is not the norm, even for people with known valve disease.
Avatar n tn Distinguishing between noninfective and infective endocarditis is difficult but important, because treatment differs. Noninfective endocarditis may be diagnosed when echocardiography detects vegetations on heart valves, but no bacteria are detected in blood samples. Anticoagulants may be used to prevent clotting, but their benefits have not been confirmed. Prognosis is generally poor, more because of the seriousness of the underlying disorder than because of the heart problem....
Avatar n tn This study concluded that azithromycin 1g single dose was quite effective in curing gonorrhea. "This paper describes the efficacy of azithromycin 1g single dose in the management of uncomplicated gonorrhoea either with or without chlamydial co-infection. Three hundred and one patients were treated for gonorrhoea between January 2000 and June 2001; 226/301 (75.1%) were treated with azithromycin 1g stat dose while the rest were treated with different regimens. Ninety-seven of 301 (32.
