2032821 tn?1330563082 Weight loss can come from both diverticulitis and ulcers. But the weight loss indicates a worsening of her diverticulitis, which can be fatal. Drinking alcohol on top of all this ulceration and diverticulitis can hasten this outcome. If she would simply quit drinking and follow her physician's advice on how to control the diverticulitis and how to control her ulcers, she would not lose anymore weight and she will live.

Avatar f tn Thank you for your reply..I have diverticulitis per colonoscopy and pet scan.. I have read about overgrowth and did take cipro 500 mg daily for 5 days and came out of being so weak I could hardly walk episode!..the dr said just try and it helped..thank you! I know taking antibiotics when no fever or culture sounds questionable but it did help a few months ago.....I am in pain a lot but when I am really weak..I wonder if something else is going on..
Avatar n tn Dicloxacillin is a poor choice for any STD. It has no effect against chlamydia or the other bacteria that cause cervicitis in women and NGU in men, and borderline efficacy at best against gonorrhea and syphilis. The alternative to doxycycline is azithromycin 1.0 g orally in a single dose, which is safe and effective in pregnancy. If gonorrhea is a concern, then it's azithromycin plus a cephalosporin antibiotic, such cefixime or cefpodoxime; or a 2.0 g dose of azithromycin.

Avatar n tn Surgeon is ordering CT and then may check for adhesions, but I think he is really doing for my peace of mind as when he examines me, he can not feel any "inflammatory changes" and thinks I am okay. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn 1. Can you have diverticulitis without a fever? I have had, for about 3 weeks, lower left abdominal pain and nausea exactly like the symptoms for which I was hospitalized in July 07, with the exception of no fever and no diarreah. 2. When I have this pain and nausea, should I go back to clear liquids or continue with high fiber. I am trying to intake mostly soluble fiber. 3. FYI: The Ct scan in July indicated diverticulitis with resultant IV antiiotics and clear liquids.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the response. My diverticulitis is in the colon. My first attach was in 2007 and I have had a total of 10 attacks, uncomplicated, since then with only one hospitalization. I have had years with no episodes and then all of sudden, 3 episodes in a row within just a span of a few months. I don't know why I can go years with nothing and then months with recurrent attacks. I'm concerned that you are still having pain.
1628222 tn?1299548327 Thank you so much for replying. I have not had Diverticulitis for sometime, and then out of the blue I got a very sore tummy and it was on the right hand side then as it got worse it went to the left as well. I was on antibiotics and that cleared it up but have only been off them for 2 weeks and it is sore on both sides again.
Avatar n tn I was finally told this weekend that I have Diverticulitis/colitis. For months, I have been searching for answers to what is wrong. The pain was finally so severe that I went to the ER thinking I had appendicitis. After a Ct scan with contrast, I was finally diagnosised. I have not had a colonoscopy. I am guessing this would be my next step? I have had back pain that feels like a kidney infection for a year. I had been tested for it and even kidney stones and was neg.
Avatar n tn I was researching Trichomoniasis online and one website mentioned that Azithromycin is one treatment for it. Since I was given Azithromycin for the Chlamydia, would this have also cured the Trichomoniasis as well? If not, is there any way a doctor would prescribe me the Trichomoniasis medication without testing? I have read that a swab test is needed to diagnose Trichomoniasis, and I've heard swab testing is incredibly painful so I'd like to avoid that if possible.
987242 tn?1335490770 I under went a colonoscopy on Thursday and they found inflammation and diverticulitis in the sigmoid colon. He also found something at the other end of my colon and is awaiting biopsy results. What I don't understand is my symptoms don't match diverticulitis and have been on going for over a decade. In 2001 I started having bloody bowel movements with extreme abdominal pain, I also lost forty pounds in six months.
Avatar f tn diagnosed with diverticulitis, have been on antibiotics for 24 days, off for the last 24hrs and the pain had returned along with several bowel movements, also been on a low fiber diet.
Avatar m tn Also, little or no beef, and not to much wheat as it is bad for you in other ways. Other whole grains are much better for you. She highly recommends Flax seed. The best form of fiber suppliment is psyllium which you can get in capsules and in bulk. Avoid "bad fat" foods (cheese & fried foods etc.) I think the basis of the lactose thing is that there is a lot of animal fat in a lot of dairy foods. I have done really great since I have been on this regime.

Avatar f tn Is it common for people younger than 40 to get diverticulitis or colitis? I'm possibly going to have a colonoscopy done in the next few weeks and I'm only 26. My regular doctor mentioned that it could be diverticulitis.
Avatar f tn diverticulitis usually is centered in your lower left abdomen because I was hospitalized with it myself for 2 days a couple of years ago. I want to know why we're not warned that totally unrelated health issues can happen after a colonoscopy. I've been told that colonoscopys can "trigger" your dormant diverticulosis and make it active. I hope you get some answers soon.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am new to this site. I've coped with diverticulitis for a few years now, living with the pain and its limitations. Now I've hit a wall and my G.P. has signed me off work. Can't believe how poorly I feel and the pain is constant. Having tests to eliminate anything sinister. Thing is I never lose time from work and have had 3 weeks off so far which is worrying me. At times I think I should just battle thru but know I need help so I just feel like I am going mad.
Avatar m tn The second time it was the diverticulitis plus a pneumonia in one lung. The third time it was diverticulitis plus pneumonia in both lungs. Each time my fever was above 105, so high that I don't even remember going to the ER. The last time I went to the ER, they told me that the infection was getting worse each time and that I eventually would not leave the hospital alive. Of course thats a scary proposition but I have no idea what to do about it. Now I'm in constant fear of death.
Avatar f tn Is there anyone that has continual problems from a diverticulitis attack? I was diagnoised 11/30/10. I have good days but then this old thing comes back to bite me.
945921 tn?1330962317 i had surgery 5 weeks ago and my colon had attached itself to my diverticulitis and i am still in pain from the surgery. the surgeon had to cut me instead of doing the laparoscopy. i am not in pain near the scar. just pain. i was wondering if this was normal. when will i stop hurting?
