avinza kadian

anyone have any problems with Avinza? (morphine sulfate extended release). My dr said that it had an antagonist that made it non addictive. He prescribed it to me alone with Norco (high dosage)- I stopped taking both, and it's been 6 weeks, but I'm still struggling.

Hi dmoon, I am also on morphine sulfate generic for MS Contin not the brand name Kadian. They also have MS as the brand name Avinza and others both in extended release and immediate release formulations. I think I am the odd ball out as I have not had any nightmares on Morphine Sulfate and I have been taking it for about 8 months. If you just started MS, I would give some time for the side effects to diminish or go away completely. The constipation almost always never goes away.

Hello, I was reading your post and wondered has your physician tried you on Kadian or Avinza? They are both in the long acting families which is what it sounds like you need. The patches are great also, but I would ask your physician which route would be better. Just a note* do you see a pain specialist? They are the best with pain control.

Recently, Embeda was removed from the market and my doctor replaced it with Kadian. I do not find Kadian to be as helpful with my chronic back pain and it costs $40.00 per month even with Blue Cross help. Does anyone have any recommendations of what might be on the market that would be affordable and effective? Thanks.

My PM doctor's nurse put me on various drugs until Avinza, then I stayed on it for the last few years. I have severe, life threatening Respiratory problems and my memory is getting much worse. I am 100% disabled from a car wreck. I am medically retired. My wife is here with me, so I am not alone. I got my dosage down from a high of approximately 450-500 mg a day to 30mg of Avinza a day. Oxycodone is for BT pain. I took my last Avinza at 10pm Sat, July 19.

The list I got of things that conflict with Gabapentin includes hydrocodone (Hydrocet, Vicodin, etc), morphene (Avinza, Kadian, Msir, etc), and naproxen (Aleve, Anaprox, Naproxyn, etc). Also, antacids cannot be taken within 2 hours before or after taking Gabapentin, it lower's the body's ability to absorb Gabapentin. What's on the bottle is Tramadol/acet, so yup, it's the same thing I guess.

CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL WHILE TAKING AVINZA MAY RESULT IN THE RAPID RELEASE AND ABSORPTION OF A POTENTIALLY FATAL DOSE OF MORPHINE." * MORPHINE IS METABOLIZED IN THE LIVER* You should get off of this one right away and switch to something like Paxill - this all is very confusing to me why any hep doctor would suggest this?

2 major back surgeries, and still in pain. Doctor gave me Kadian to help with pain. Does anyone know if I can quit taking percocet and loritab cold turkey while on kadian? Will I still go through withdrawl? Have begun tapering off...or so I am telling my husband. I want to quit the daily abuse and just take one pill. The kadian has eliminated a lot of the pain. I feel better, but want to stop with the other meds.

My daughter was told at her pain clinic that she could not build a tolerance to Avinza. My daughter has to be taken off of Avinza and put on something else for a while and go through terrible withdrawl, including restless leg syndrome, then she sees the nurse again and has to argue with her to get her to put her on Avinza again.

I have questions about the drug Kadian....I have recently been referred to a new pain management doc and he is in the process of adding/switching me over to Kadian for long-acting pain control vs. just the Norco I have been on....my question primarily is how long will it take for me to adjust to the change from short acting opiate to the extended release meds...

I been on Kadian since 9-11. I also retired about a year after. I had 2 back surg. And full wrist fusion. Dr. Put me on Kadian I'm now on 20 mg 3x a day. For the past month I only take 2. Just wondering if anyone has had any success on using kadian for pain management. I personally haven't used it. I have read quite a bit on the internet about it and many say it helped their pain quite a bit without giving them the buzz or high associated with other pain meds. I do realize it is morphine sulfate so I would think you would feel something. I have had problems in the past on taking more than prescribed so would love to find something to help with the pain without the high.

I have had nausea and vomiting every day since I have been home. We split the Kadian to 30/30mg and I am still sick. I am hoping it is the Kadian that is making me sick. Even though I have taken it for a long time with no side effects I can't think what else it could be. I take antinausea meds every day for it. I want to stop taking 30mg and replace it with my oxycodone 10mg as needed. I do not go back to the clinic for 3 weeks and I am trying to get back on my feet.

Can you build up a tolerance to avinza? After taking avinza for several months, my daughter just didn't get any relief from it anymore. She quit taking it for a while and then started using it again and it's working. The pain clinic nurse practioner say's that you cannot build up a tolerance to it.

Is morphine (avinza) a stronger narcotic than percocet? I have 60 mg tablets of avinza, so if I take one of those, is that like taking 6 of the percocet 10/325?

then placed me on 400 mcg actiq 5 times a day and 30 mg kadian once daily. the kadian never seemed like the problem, i could take it or not, but i could not go without the actiq.i always ran out b4 appt time and so forth. i realized i had a problem so i began to detox myself, and my dental bills were racking up from sucking lolipops all day. my dr. @ my clinic was and is a wonderful dr. i violated the terms of my contract by thinking i knew the best way to come off these drugs.

yes there tends to be less abuse with the kadian .....The one thing you have to be very careful of if you go back on the kadian it is very dangerous with any alcohol.

My best friend of 13 yrs just got prescribed avinza. Not sure of dose. He has been trying injection of pills. I think he is injecting avinza. Is that possible. What are signs or symtoms. He needs help.

i take until the physcal withdraw part should be done then i dont take the kadian. i do not take kadian all the time. i am not addicted to them. i know it hasnt worked in the past. this time i stay on this forum. i find it helps alot. i might not take all the advice even though very good. ii dread the withdrawls cause i have done them and if i can get around that and still quity i have to go down that road. i stay on forum this time especially my rough time i will do it this time.

My pain management doctor is weaning me off Kadian (time release morphin) and I am having severe anxiety? Is there anything I can do to help the anxiety until I am done weaning off Kadian?

My friend told me he chewed 300 mg's of kadian, is he okay?/ He weighs 305 and is 5'9!

ve been on dilaudid 4mg, oxycontin 20 mg 3x daily, 4 to 6 percocet 10/325 daily, fentynil patches, kadian, avinza, lyrica, and even celebrex........not all at once but by the dr at the time or pain mngmt dr. The problem is I hate how I feel on any of it. It's like nothing touches my heart.....I used to cry at the end of movies like Braveheart, but while I'm on meds my wife calls me House "Jr." but not in a good way. Ican't stand the pain but feeling nothing is worse.

Has anyone had any withdrawl problems with Avinza if they miss one day of medication??
