2053416 tn?1330411192 Actos belongs in class of diabetes medications called thiazolidinediones. In this class are Avandia and a combination drug Avandamet [Avandia and Metformin]. Rezulin is in this class but not much known about it.
Avatar m tn [copy/paste] "For reasons still not identified, the long-term use of Actos weakens the respiratory tract’s immunity. This results to throat and respiratory infections like sore throat, sinusitis, coughs, and colds." Use with caution if you have heart issues. Also, Avandia is the other drug that falls into this classification. The FDA warns not to use Avandia for first time users, in fact, the FDA severely restricts its use.
Avatar m tn org/wiki/Thiazolidinedione this drug is same family as Rosiglitazone (Avandia) which has been foud active on hbsag and hbvdna, question is does TZD lower hbsag since decrease of hbsag inibits cancer growth too and if lowered to und eradicate hbv?
Avatar n tn She is gaining weight, has trouble breathing, and has been experiencing some chest pains lately (Dr. gave nitro). She is on avandia and I would like to know if this could be the cause of her recent decline in health?
Avatar n tn Also go on the websites of the manufactures, sometimes they have coupons for a % off your bill. When I joint the avandia program I got a couple months free avandia, plus they send coupons at times. Also ask your md for samples. I use to work at a doctors office and we got enough samples to open a pharmacy. Another thing, if your job offers a flexible spending account, I find that is nice as well. it reduces your taxes and you can contribute up to 3000 a year to them. good luck.
Avatar f tn Yes, i was put on Avandia for Type 2 abt 5 years ago. Since then my #'s have improved with diet and exercise to the point that a new Dr. said she saw no reason for me to be on Avandia and i have since stopped useing it. It was never vy high, around 159 or so when it was diagnosed. If i am not careful of my diet it can jump up to the 130's to 140's. Am also on diovan for HBP which is usually under good control with the 1 med.
Avatar f tn Can I take Evening Primrose and Femara together? I'm also taking Avandia. Any thoughts would be great!
Avatar n tn Metformin is in general, a good medication. There are others in the class such as Avandia. You can talk to your doctor about this. You might try drinking more water, eating more fiber (vegetables, whole grains), taking psyllium seed fiber and walking regularly. Each of those can help. Of course, there is always the laxative option but it's best to try the others first. Take it with meals, this helps. Onglyza is another alternative medication idea.
Avatar m tn for several years i was on avandamet and stayed around the high 90 to low 100's after accidental injestion of activated cidex my count jumped to the 440's and now am taking the pills x-2 a day and 25 units of lantus just to stay in the 150 range. what affect does cidex have on diabetes?
907729 tn?1244174363 Your low ejection fraction does increase your surgical risk, even in the absence of any significant blockages on your recent angiogram. I do think that speaking with a surgeon still would be useful in terms of understanding your level of risk better.
Avatar m tn I use Actos, but for some reason my fingers typed Avandia. Our FDA went through the same review on Avandia recently, and reluctantly left it on the shelf; however, it is used only when patients are found refractory to other, similar drugs, I believe. FlGuy, although I was down to 185 pounds at one point during treatment, I’m currently the lankiest 6’ 0” 250 pounder you’ve ever seen :o). I’ve always led an active lifestyle, so I don’t fit the sedentary profile of typical DM II patients.
Avatar n tn That sounds like it should be good for you if you are ovulating on your own and aren't having any other problems. I was on femara and avandia (for PCOS), and I had to have a trigger shot (because I don't ovulate on my own). But I got pregnant on my second month of femara (with IUI). And that was after 6 years of trying and being on clomid for a really long time. So I really believe in femara!
Avatar f tn I have PCOS also, and I am currently 20 weeks pregnant. I was put on avandia (similar to metformin), femara (similar to clomid), and a trigger shot to help me ovulate. I also did IUI. But I got pregnant on my second cycle of this combination. This was after trying for 6 years, but only 9 months with a reproductive endocrinologist. So I would suggest that if you do have PCOS, and you aren't currently seeing an RE, to go see one.
1261240 tn?1271520861 herbs are too weak no study results at all on hbv in vivo nitazoxanide in combination with interferon, tenofovir or entecavir might make hbsag negative, a group in the community is trying it off label since it has almost no sides simvastatin (cholesterol drug) and rosiglitazone (Avandia) have been reported to weaken hbv but both can have sides, no studies in vivo, probably useless in monotherapy
Avatar n tn I am experiencing some weight loss and I am not sure if it due to my sugar, the fact I was taken off Avandia and put on Junovia because I know Avandia increases weight or if something else is happening to me. Also would high blood sugar like mine lead to sweating, tingling in legs and hands and I almost feel like my body is hot...
Avatar m tn ve been on glucophage since the beginning (10 years) , with the exception of a short and nearly fatal foray into Avandia use. I've had all those symptoms for ten years. I also have passed out several times from low blood sugar, something the doctors say doesn't happen on this medication. Ha, ha. Tell that to the Saturday morning crowd at Denny's. I have been told I am an exception and, normally, the symptoms are supposed to fade after a few months.
95361 tn?1219870284 I take Metformin 850 x 3, Januvia 100mg (only for about the last two weeks) and just started on Avandia 4 mg for diabetes. My other meds are for thyroid, GERD, potassium, generalized dystonia (levodopa). Is this something I should be concerned about? I see my doctor in a week and a half, but do I need to contact her before then if this happens again?
603046 tn?1279159413 After retirement from my civilian job in 2003, my docotr placed me on low dosage Avandia. That brought my blood sugar reading down. I lost a few pounds and after three years of "normal" glucose and glycohemoglobin readings, he took me off Avandia. For the past four years my glucose reading has been fluctuating between 110-140 (fasting) and averages 150 (non-fasting). My glycohemoglobin readings were consistently below 6.5 and my urine read "normal" for blood sugar.
Avatar m tn For myself, I now, after going off Avandia, have an average of 99. I watch my diet, walk and exercise daily and have lost abt 20 lbs . My Dr put me immediately on Avandia but with the inexcusable news of the possibility of its affecting ones heart, i stopped using it. My new Dr. questioned my ever being on it in the first place.
Avatar f tn There are drugs which will improve fatty liver infiltration - I believe Avandia is one - but I understand they come with their own set of side effects.
506810 tn?1210691647 t mature? So now she took me off of metformin and I just started avandia. And wheneveer I start my next period she's gonna put me on Femara and an hcg shot. Has anyone had any success with any of these meds??!! Also, since I took clomid this month, is that gonna allow me to start my period without provera? If anyone has any advise, it will be greatly appreiciated!!
963017 tn?1247161979 t had that much gas since I took Avandia (another fertility drug), so I guess thats a good thing? I think it definitely has something to do with hormonal change. SO that being said, I think you are experiencing normal things....I hope you are pregnant! and if not, I'm sure you will be soon. Another tip is to get tested for celiac/gluten intolerance. Google it. 85% of woman with pcos have celiac disease.
693834 tn?1227634020 Kini, Like the person who wrote previously, I have elevated amylase. I am 51, mildly diabetic and take Avandamet twice daily. I am female and in menopause. About 2 months ago my blood tests showed amylase of 181. I was sent for an abdominal sonnogram and pancreatic MRI, both of which were fine. Now, two months later I was retested and my levels are higher, at 200. My dr is now sending me for a transvaginal sonnogram as well as to a gastroentinologist for a consult.
