If you don't have ADHD, they can be seriously addicting. For that reason alone (plus a bunch or others), you need to see a doctor that can help you. I would try to find a psychologist or psychiatrist that specials in ADHD. Stay away from your general MD.

He was diagnosed with moderate attention deficit, and mild to no hyperactivity. Many people think if the child isn't hyper, then they do not have ADD, but the two are not always together. I would suggest looking at some of the ADHD websites, especially webmd.com, to see the symptoms and characteristics of ADHD.

Avatar f tn 'Basically' the way Adderall works when someone has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder - ADHD, is by slowing down their hyper brain functions, so their thoughts, impulsivity, hyperactivity, behaviours etc no longer run so fast that they are not in control.... But when some one who doesn't have hyper brain functions (ADHD) takes Adderall, what they experience is the opposite effect and they speed up, they feel more energetic, their thoughts runs faster, recall more clearly etc etc.

He is now 8 years old and with every year he has gained confidence, become less anxious, and the tics have now subsided almost completely. He prescribed me 10 mg methylphenidate (rapid release) twice daily. On the spot. Never mentioned my history of alcohol abuse or dependence. No warnings. Nothing. The monograph basically says alcoholics and drug addicts should not take methylphenidate. Internet is FULL of warnings against it.

RAD is often seen in adopted children, where the initial attachment with the biological mother has been disrupted, even if the child was very young or an infant when adopted. It is something that can be easily addressed in therapy, but cannot be eliminated through meds, since it's a response to stressors not genetics.
