Although A.D.H.D is the diagnosis Dr. Anderson makes, he calls the disorder “made up” and “an excuse” to prescribe the pills to treat what he considers the children’s true ill — poor academic performance in inadequate schools. “I don’t have a whole lot of choice,” said Dr.
Avatar f tn Children mature at different rates. This sounds like a description of my child. He is in 1st grade now, we held him back from the second grade this year, and just from Aug-Dec of this school year he has made a lot of improvements. Just keep an eye on him, meet with his teacher and ask how he is doing with his milestones as far as eduction. As long as he is on track with his class, then he should be fine.
Avatar f tn [5] [edit] Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder Many children labelled indigo by their parents are diagnosed with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)[6] and Tober and Carroll's book The Indigo Children linked the concept with diagnosis of ADHD. Their book makes the case that the children are a new stage of evolution rather than children with a medical diagnosis, and that they require special treatment rather than medications.

It is good that you are getting it checked out. The other thing is too, his medication might have some side effects that you want to discuss with your doctor.
Avatar n tn Other times, an adult can either simply never been diagnosed as a child, or develop the disorder later on in life. Adult attention deficit disorder looks a lot like childhood attention deficit disorder. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, since the symptoms are largely the same.

Avatar f tn She comes from a stable home with parents that love her, we give our children equal attention and do all the family things such as eat meals together at the table and take trips to the museum/exhibitions etc. Neither of our kids lack attention or discipline, Myself being the main disciplanary figure as I'm at home. Point being, we try really hard to be the best parents we can be, but nothing seems enough for her and we just don't get it. This child is so much work!

163305 tn?1333672171 Even the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines, to which your report refers, do not question that attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a “real” brain disorder, rather than a convenient way of labelling a child who is boisterous and disruptive in class. Ask paediatricians how often they saw children with “minimal brain dysfunction”, as ADHD was then known, in the 80s, and their answers range from one in 100 to one in 500.
Avatar m tn (a) Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), (b) Oppositional Defiant Disorder, or conduct disorder, but it is difficult to disentangle those features from those of BPD. Stimulant medications can be used if ODD co.-exist with ADHD ( Attention - deficit hyperactivity disorder). Medications are not usually recommended as an option. Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder or ADHD is today largely accepted as a bona fide psychiatric or neurobehavioral disorder affecting some 5-7% of children and adolescents. Avatar n tn Dear Anat, Stimulant medications are commonly used with even young children to treat Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, though the condition should be at a high level of severity to warrant such treatment in a child younger than seven years. If your child has tolerated Ritalin well, there's no reason to be worried about the use of Ritalin SR (Sustained Release). If the Ritalin is not helpful, Dexedrine can be used (in fact, it is often preferred in very young children).

I just wanted to respond to the part in your letter about the little boy on Ritalin with severe eye twitches. My 9 year old son developed an eye tic when on Ritalin-he would blink constantly.
