Avatar f tn Although it seems like your child exhibits characteristic symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, he might not have a genuine attentional problem but rather acts in this manner because academic tasks are very challenging for him. Observe whether he shows similar traits when engaged in other activities that are mildly challenging for him. If these symptoms are present across activities and settings you need to get a professional evaluation of his attention/ concentration skills.
1472248 tn?1292611095 From the symptoms described this looks to be attention deficit hyperactivity disorder rather than anything related to the previous episode of rolandic seizure. ADHD usually presents in early school years. The child can be either primarily inattentive, impulsive, hyperactive or emotionally unstable. The child often doesn’t seem to listen, is easily distracted, cant sit still and is fidgety, has angry outbursts, social loner, becomes very sensitive to criticism.
Avatar f tn Dr. Melanie Bee has a webpage on treating ADHD/ADD. One of the things she discusses is chiropractic adjustments. They GREATLY help the nervous system so messages get through correctly, and there is less fidgeting. This sounds very good to me. I also came across another website that says: "Using emotional release techniques, I have recovered from the pattern of behaviors called Attention Deficit Disorder.
Avatar n tn We took him to a child psychiatrist recommended by his pediatrician and it turned out that he had ADD. Not ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder), just ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) He was put on medication, once daily and his life changed completely. He could concentrate, focus, his grades went up, his mood changed AND the homework was being turned in - daily! Even the teacher called us on the phone and asked what in the world was going on. haha.

When given for attention deficit disorder, Ritalin should be an integral part of a total treatment program that includes psychological, educational, and social measures. Ritalin may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Avatar n tn ADHD means Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, It is actually quite common. Bsically means his attention is difficult to get, and keep. His mind cant stay still, constantly jumping from one thought to the next. Concentration will be a little more effert throughout most of school. Then there is the hyperactivity part.(For me this was the most difficult, and affected me the most). Now not only the mind cant stand still nether can the little guy.
429700 tn?1308007823 Hi Deb, Is the problem ADD (attention deficit (with out) hyperactivity disorder) or CAPD ( central auditory processing disorder) the reason behind the question is that sx can seemingly overlap, though there is a distinct difference but ADD and ADHD is more widely known.
Avatar m tn Well, your daughter’s symptoms may be related to Valparin, but there is a great possibility that she suffers from attention deficit disorder or dyslexia or have disorder of written expressions etc. A complete neuro-psychological evaluation is necessary for confirmed diagnosis. Please ask her specialist regarding these possibilities and get a complete evaluation done. If no problem is found in her attention and learning capabilities then may be the symptoms are side effects of Valparin.

Avatar n tn I don’t think that her stubborn nature is linked with any neurological disorder here since it could be a normal phenomenon of an ADHD (attention deficit hyperactive disorder) child who reacts quite differently in such situation due to poor attention span. Your daughter with ADHD may have attention difficulty, hyperactivity and impulsivity. Therefore, by attention deficit she does not listen to what is said to her.
Avatar f tn //www.consumerreports.org/health/conditions-and-treatments/attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder/what-is-it.htm) did a report and said basically that while nothing has been proven it doesn't hurt to try fish oils (omega 3's). I have (in the 3 plus years on this site) never seen a post by a parent saying any additional diet change made a difference (if they had a normal diet). Having said that, omega 3's certainly wouldn't hurt to try!
Avatar n tn It sounds a bit like me when I was younger. I had a difficult time paying attention in places that things and people weren't as familiar. This created a novelty that pulled my attention away from what I needed it for. He probably is paying attention but to too many things. At that point for me I gravitated towards the easier things to do because I ran out of brain energy to continue doing the more complicated tasks. That still happens to me and I'm 44 and on Ritalin.
Avatar f tn I agree, I would have your pediatrician assess him for ADHD, but I would also consider Sensory Disintegration Disorder. This behavior is not so different from a child who has suffered a trauma or loss (been hurt, loss in the family, parents separated).
Avatar m tn //www.helpguide.org/articles/add-adhd/attention-deficit-disorder-adhd-in-children.htm. I am more concerned about him being moody and throwing tantrums. That could really hinder him in kindergarten. You need to figure out what his triggers are. Then you need to show him ways to deal with this. One very good way is a set of books aimed at this age group. They are meant to be read aloud many times and practiced. A good one is "When I feel angry". https://www.amazon.

5757880 tn?1395578022 When that cause is removed the child will usually recover. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder – sometimes referred to as Attention Deficit Disorder – is as widespread as the refined foods and the food additives that play such a major role in causing ADD / ADHD.
