Avatar n tn I assume that the pediatrician's recommendation was made because, in addition to his seizure disorder, your son has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. If such a diagnosis has been made, use of medication (in light of the symptoms you describe) might be a very reasonable thing to do. Some, though not all, children who display ADHD do require medication and it is for them a responsible intervention.

Avatar m tn (a) Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), (b) Oppositional Defiant Disorder, or conduct disorder, but it is difficult to disentangle those features from those of BPD. I certainly exhibited episodes of hyperactivity-impulsivity or just impulsivity, but I cannot find any detailed information about these early years since everyone who knew me then is now dead or not contactable. 2.7.1.
Avatar f tn Although it seems like your child exhibits characteristic symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, he might not have a genuine attentional problem but rather acts in this manner because academic tasks are very challenging for him. Observe whether he shows similar traits when engaged in other activities that are mildly challenging for him. If these symptoms are present across activities and settings you need to get a professional evaluation of his attention/ concentration skills.

Avatar f tn I'm glad if I've been of help, but I'm sorry if all you've gotten from my reply is 'Don't use medical terminology in speaking to a doctor.' You fear being dismissed, yet you are dismissing most comments from others who have been in the trenches as patients for quite a few years. We do know what we're talking about from that perspective.

We have tried different doses of Zoloft and seem to have good results after about 6-8 weeks, but the effectiveness seems to lessen after about 3-4 months. My daughter is currently taking 75mg Zoloft every morning and 25mg Imipiramine in the evening. Once again, the picking tendencies seem to be returning.
Avatar m tn ADD is attention deficit disorder. It is an inability to pay attention to things. It is impossible for you to diagnose yourself with having this, and only a doctor or psychiatrist can properly diagnose you. There are several questions that they will ask you in ascertaining if you have it. If you do have ADD, there are things you can do at home to help yourself, and to make life a little easier for you, but first you need to see a doctor to find out if you have it.

Avatar m tn However I will try to provide you with some useful information. Attention deficit disorder has many symptoms including, but not limited to, forgetful of daily activities, losing things, not listening, easily distractible, making careless mistakes, fidgets, hyperactive, talking excessively, interrupts others, and avoids activities that require mental function. Avatar n tn I also recommend looking into whether you have ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder, which I do not consider a disorder, but it is definitely a brain thing and causes anxiety) and/or hypoclycemia (low blood sugar, which causes terrible depression). In the case of ADD, just having the right job and environment can help get rid of the anxiety (usually a creative and non-judgemental environment helps).
Avatar f tn the antipsychotic Risperdal, the antidepressant Prozac, two sleeping medicines and one for attention-deficit disorder. All by the time he was 3. He was sedated, drooling and overweight from the side effects of the antipsychotic medicine. Although his mother, Brandy Warren, had been at her “wit’s end” when she resorted to the drug treatment, she began to worry about Kyle’s altered personality. “All I had was a medicated little boy,” Ms. Warren said. “I didn’t have my son.
Avatar m tn If someone finds it difficult to pay attention or feels somewhat hyperactive, “Attention-deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder” has those symptoms right there in its name. It’s an easy, catch-all phrase, which saves time for doctors to boot. But can we really lump all these people together? What if there are other things causing people to feel distracted? I don’t deny that we, as a population, are more distracted today than we ever were before.
Avatar m tn My son has improved in his ability to handle these situations or maybe he is just becoming accustomed to them, but cutting his nails is still a work out for me. If your son shows signs of Attention Deficit Disorder....that is common....Concerta is the best med for that. Also, any aggression is common in Asperger's kids. My son takes Risperdol at night to help with that. He is just very easily frustrated if things don't go perfectly for him and this also helps him sleep better at night.

Avatar f tn children has ADHD, a sizable increase from a few years earlier that researchers think might be explained by growing awareness and better screening. ADHD, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, makes it hard for kids to pay attention and control impulsive behavior. It's often treated with drugs, behavioral therapy, or both.
