Atrovent vs ventolin

Common Questions and Answers about Atrovent vs ventolin

serevent

Avatar f tn He prescribed me atrovent but from what I understand it is usually a substitute for ventolin not steroids. He directed me to take both atrovent and ventolin 2 times a day for a month but I don't really have a long term treatment plan. The doctor seemed a bit stumped as to what else to do. I am suffering from some symptoms almost all the time and regularly have fairly bad attacts. I am very glad to have the ventolin but I'm hoping to find long term treatment for the underlying problem.
920032 tn?1550680156 Hi, I used to be on Qvar and Ventolin, I recently changed doctors and explained to my dr that I had been needing my ventolin up to 10 times per day, even if all I was doing was sitting on thr lounge. He prescribed me with the symbicort turbuhaler and I have one puff off this once a day and in the past 2 months that I have been on it, I have pretty much forgotten that I am asthmatic, even through the extreme cold in the last couple of weeks.
Avatar f tn after being on the blue Ventolin inhaler I had experienced severe headaches and a jittery feeling in me everytime I took it, the headaches became increasingly worse so I got took off Ventolin and put on Bricanyl Turbohaler. I have been using Bricanyl along with my brown inhaler and antihistamines as it was believed that I had allergic asthma.
Avatar f tn This is similar to what happened with my "Asthma". Started bad and was diagnosed and given advair - worked like a charm and was awesome. Then had a bad asthma spell because of my work (a pet store) moving and we had 25 years of dirt, fur and dust moving around the store as the shelvings were been moved plus a lot of cleaner fumes.
7748835 tn?1393868668 There is another reliever you can use with ventolin called atrovent (not sure it is in duoneb as I'm not familiar with that product). When my asthma got bad I was using both of them and found that worked much much better ..... Ventolin wasn't working on me either. Get the doctor to watch you take your inhaler as well to make sure your technique is good and you are getting medicine into your lungs.

Avatar n tn I would see your Dr and get a script for any type of athma med vs. self-medicating. Could be something ventolin might be able to help, but may need more or less and only your Dr can really help you with this . ... it's hard online . WELCOME to our Asthma Community!
Avatar n tn yet last pft relatively normal with midflows decreased at 64% of predicted and airway resistance slightly increased- signifying mild obstructive airway disease with no change with ventolin/atrovent. I am confused. Is it normal for the cat scans to be so varied? Is it normal for sleep apnea to cause daytime hypoxia? I have episodes with cough, wheezing, flushing and high blood pressure..putting me in hospital....multiple times. Have you ever seen anything like this before?
746512 tn?1388807580 I have a tight chest/throat, itchy lungs, lowered peak flow (70-80%) which atrovent/ventolin works on a bit for about an hour. Now my methacholine challenge was completely negative for asthma - however it was done in jan-march (I have to go find the exact day). I really don't understand this .... nothing has changed in reflux zone which is defintely an aggravator to the lungs. Thanks for any input you have ....
Avatar n tn t responding great to high levels of inhaled steroids and prednisone for a few severe attacks. It came back completely normal - no asthma. wtf? I was advair, ventolin, atrovent, singulair, antihistamines you name it. I was starting to get my allergies under control so I was still getting symptoms from the leftover inflammation and gunk left in my lungs but the typical "asthma twitchiness" wasn't there. This led the pulmonalogist to say I didn't have asthma.
1135961 tn?1279145314 I have seen two doctors and im on a combination of meds. They are, Advair500, Atrovent, Alvesco, Prednizone, Singulair, and ventolin. All these meds dont seem to work.Ive been to the e.r three times in the last two months. And during my last visit I was put on bypass. Its seems like every day my chest is tight, and I wease a little. Sure there are some good days, but overall my asthma is still out of control. I feel so frustrated , and dont want to end up in the er again. What do I do?
1232362 tn?1333135406 He slowly got me to wane off of the meds that I thought I really needed and now down from 3 puffs of advair 500/50 twice a day to only using ventolin/atrovent 1-2 a week (due to acid reflux irriating my lungs). He was the one that led me down the reflux rotate and it looks likes that the problem with possible celiac disease or gluten issues. Hopefully you have the same success with the pulmonologist as I did. Good luck!!
Avatar n tn I am worried about the availability of Ventolin inhalers. Some months i may need to use more than one Ventolin inhalers based on my asthma triggers. Will it be a problem to get 2 ventolin inhaler prescription per month in US.
Avatar m tn It is often treated with a drying nasal spray (like Atrovent) and antihistamines like chlorpheniramine and loratadine are effective. Nasal decongestant drops too relieve congestion. Please consult your primary care physician for further evaluation. Regards.
Avatar f tn I am taking atrovent for asthma and i was wondering if i should be spitting out phlem after i take a treatment or does it just break the phlem up and i spit it out whenever?
920032 tn?1550680156 however she prescrbed atrovent instead. it does bring the mucus up easier but its not the best solution as by the time i have coughed up all the extra mucus i am bedbound until chest has had time to recover. i am using my releiver ventolin 8 times a day.
746512 tn?1388807580 If you are having troubles with your ventolin not working .... don't be stupid like me. Get a new one and see if it helps. I found out mine was completely empty last night when I woke up last night in an attack and the ventolin didn't work very well. Why does the advair have a counter on inhaler and ventolin doesn't?? does not make sense to me!
Avatar f tn I have had seasonal allergies along with dust, cat and dog allergies too since 30 years ago. I finally had 5 years of allegy shot ending aroung 2005, This year has been so bad with all the pollen I feel like I'm right back to day one. My eyes are itchy, my nose runs and my palate is so itchy. I take Atrovent for post nasal drip, aerius for the allergies and I'm also on Advair 250 discuss. Why is this happening after all these years? Will it go away or am I supposed to get shots again.
Avatar f tn 1 - I am currently taking symbicort and ventolin, and someone told me that if I stop using them (even for just one day), I will have an asthma attack because of my perfume/irritant allergy. Is this true? 2 - What am I supposed to do if I have an asthma attack? Atfter I take my ventolin (for emergencies), am I supposed to go to the hospital or just wait for it to get better?
Avatar m tn I have cough for almost a week. My doctor told me to took ventolin spectorant for 4-5 days 3 times a day. But i only took 2 times a day bec. I am relactant in taking medicine.may i know if ventolin expectorant is safe for a pregnant women for 16 weeks. Is there no side effects for baby?
Avatar n tn I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes. I had already been discussing the changes with my doctor as my asthma had become much better controlled. I just pushed up the timeline on one and she made the other. God bless.
Avatar n tn I will slowly drop from the 500 to 350-380 with a decrease in the efficenness of my ventolin/atrovent. Eventually the inhaler does nothing and I feel like crap. However, most of the time when I get to this point, a neb and doctor visit does not increase the peak flow at all, even with 50mg of pred it takes days for the peak flow to increase. So by recording your numbers over time, you will get to know how your lungs and peak flow values correspond to symptoms and attacks.
Avatar f tn My son has suffered that for years. We finally went to a university hospital where they did all the typical GERD related test and as soon as they discovered he actually had GERD, it seemed like they concentrated on that as being the source of his cough, and stopped listening to what he was telling them, that the cough would start as soon as he ate food. It didn't have enough time to get to his stomach and then start to regurge.
Avatar n tn last week we went to see a cardiologist for my slow heartbeat and sometimes there some long gap before the next beat and the doctor gave me ventolin for the treatment. do we use ventolin for those types of problem? and during the week my beat went up to 80and 90 at rest and i am 71 years old is it prudent for me to continue with such treatment?
