Avatar f tn What are some of the controller meds? He gave me some advair disks and said to take them two times a day. wondering how long i have to do this, can i stop those when i feel better?
Avatar n tn ve recently had an asthma attack due to spring pollen and other related environmental condition that increase during this season. I take a Combivent inhaler as a rescue treatment for my asthma. The problem at this point is that is a provides short relief and has choked me to the point of passing out. Could you please tell me what is causing this reaction. What would be a better method and inhaler. This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn In December of 2010, I got a bad cough. A couple of weeks later, I was in the emergency room with breathing problems, and I have been having breathing problems ever since. I have had asthma since I was very young, but it has been very well controlled for the past 12 years (no trips to the emergency room & only used a rescue inhaler a few times per year). My peak flow readings have been good (550+) throughout this entire process, even when I am feeling my worst.
746512 tn?1388807580 These are not things to be taken lightly. Use rescue inhaler when you feel that is necessary and that is every time you feel that your asthma is not controlled well with controller medicines (advair) and you experience sudden shortness of breath, difficulty moving, coughing caused by asthma which does not stop for a few minutes, especially chest tighness and pain. Although peak flow measuring is important, everyone is different in that sense.
212161 tn?1599427282 Hello... I have asthma and take Flovent 2xday and used to take Combivent as needed. My Dr switched me from Combivent to Atrovent. With Atrovent, I find that it doesn't cause my heart to race as much as it did when using the Combivent.
7748835 tn?1393868668 Hello. I'm 16, 5'6 and 118lbs. I've had asthma since I was little and I just got a diagnosis that it was moderate persistent asthma but has worsened since I've had that diagnosis so I'm sure it's severe now. I'm on Advair 250/20 as a preventor and I have Ventolin HFA as a rescue inhaler. I take Advair twice a day, but sometimes forget to take it. I don't believe it helps prevent any symptoms or attacks whatsoever.
Avatar f tn spirometry confirmed that it was asthma I had and I got out on the brown preventer inhaler and the blue reliever. after being on the blue Ventolin inhaler I had experienced severe headaches and a jittery feeling in me everytime I took it, the headaches became increasingly worse so I got took off Ventolin and put on Bricanyl Turbohaler. I have been using Bricanyl along with my brown inhaler and antihistamines as it was believed that I had allergic asthma.
Avatar f tn Ihave been told i have c o p d, the lungs of a seventy five year old, yet im not breathless and no cough or wheezieness, is this bad,and what stage have i got, i take a purple and atrovent inhaler, as my throat gets realy tight, please reply thank you
Avatar n tn I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes. I had already been discussing the changes with my doctor as my asthma had become much better controlled. I just pushed up the timeline on one and she made the other. God bless.
1232362 tn?1333135406 However I am on FLOVENT inhaler and Albuterol inhaler as a rescue backup, and I use the albuterol only when I feel an attack coming on. So I basically keep it in my purse for security. The FLOVENT is very effective in my case. I too have had asthma for about 30 yrs. But have it under control. Please read my other posts concerning asthma on this site as I don't want to repeat myself but perhaps my advice listed can help you some.
1047019 tn?1256719961 Like Tammy2009 said, keep an eye on your breathing and make sure you have your rescue inhaler with you...if you happen to have breathing problems be sure to use your rescue inhaler. Albuterol works fast and will stop your coughing/improve your breathing quickly and you'll be on your merry way within minutes! If your doctor tells you to pre-medicate before you exercise, be sure to do that because doing so will prevent breathing problems from starting in the first place.
Avatar f tn He prescribed me atrovent but from what I understand it is usually a substitute for ventolin not steroids. He directed me to take both atrovent and ventolin 2 times a day for a month but I don't really have a long term treatment plan. The doctor seemed a bit stumped as to what else to do. I am suffering from some symptoms almost all the time and regularly have fairly bad attacts. I am very glad to have the ventolin but I'm hoping to find long term treatment for the underlying problem.
Avatar n tn As far as medication goes, I had been on Singulair and Advair 100/50 with decent day-to-day control with the exception of when I am in contact with triggers. I do not have a rescue inhaler. Here's the catch to this--I do not have a rescue inhaler because it worsens my symptoms. I have tried albuterol both nebulized and in aerosol form and also Xopenex and have had a bad reaction.
1344892 tn?1276541735 i did take my salbutamol reliever inhaler when this first happened but found it made me feel worse. i have not taken my reliever for 3 days now. please help me i am feeling really unwell. thank you.
783328 tn?1236218525 I am taking Symbicort inhaler (2 puffs 2 times a day), Atrovent inhaler (2 times 2 puffs), Singulair, Palgic, Xopenex as a rescue inhaler which sometimes does not help at all and I have to go to an emergency room. Before, I was taking maximum doze of ADVAIR but it stop working. My flow peek meter show often that I am in red zone - it happens 2-3 days a week, and rest of the days I am in lower yellow zone and I am rearly in green zone. Spirometry showed asthma as well.
Avatar f tn ll get used to the inhaled medicine better or later he will reduce the number of times you need to take the inhaler---or give you an inhaler that delivers less medicine and doesn't have this effect. I hope it's better by now.
Avatar n tn My son has been under the care of a paediatric specialist since he was 2 and was thought to be asthmatic (this wasnt an official diagnosis but a feeling by his doctor) so and was prescribed a bunch of different medication including Salubutomol inhalers, beclamethasone, cetirizine hydrochloride, montelukast, nose sprays like flucticanose, and also the atrovent inhaler. All these medications were given in different combinations at different times to see if any combination would work.
Avatar n tn Ask him/her if you should also take pills to help you breathe, either SINGULAiRor something similar once in 24hr, and the inhaler. You should also have a rescue inhaler such as ALBUTEROL and use that only in emergency. I have posted a large post re: asthma and all, please read them, hope it will help you. Again do not overuse your inhalers. Keep an air cleaning machine in your home to filter out 99% of all polutants, you can get one for about $60.00 at K-mart or Sears. They help.
990597 tn?1296392926 ve been told that the rescue inhaler is the only way to calm an attack. However, I have often myself in the past used hot drinks, in particular coffee, to help with attacks in the past. Apparently there is something in coffee that helps ease the asthma. But really if you are worried about your attacks these days you should see your doctor about them. Because maybe your asthma is out of control. Another things you can do is have a number of rescue inhalers in different spots.
Avatar n tn It is my understanding the Combivent is a rescue inhaler. You should use it as prescribed and/or as needed. You doctor added the FLovent because he/she did not feel that you were getting the control you needed from the previous treatment plan. I would consider the Flovent as an addition to you previous routine and not change anything. Take care and have a blessed New Year.
Avatar n tn Do you have a rescue inhaler? Using a rescue inhaler regularly, about every 3 - 5- hours will help open the airways so that the mucus can be expelled more easily. You are taking an expectorant (guaifenesen (Mucinex)). Pseudofed may be helpful, but it keeps me awake. Lots and lots of water would be beneficial. The Advair will help with the congstion in time as inflamation causes mucus production. It might take a while for the steroid in it to start working though.
212161 tn?1599427282 I don't know what inhaler was prescribed for you, but "rescue' (acts quickly) inhalers such albuterol can cause palpitations and arrhythmias. But this reaction is rare as long as you use the recommended dosage. Steroid inhalers are maintenance inhalers meant to prevent asthma attacks. They do not have cause palpitations and arrhythmias.
746512 tn?1388807580 I'm having a lot of trouble lately with my asthma control now that I've started classes again. I seem to be ultra sensitive now (more than I was last year on campus) of cigarette smoke. I have to walk outside to get to some of classes and if I pass more than one person smoking or get too many wifts in my face, my chest really tightens up and I'm forced to use my rescue inhaler. The problem is this has been an almost daily occurence and I hate taking ventolin that regularly.
Avatar f tn My doctor considers asthma controlled when I need to use my rescue inhaler no more than two times in a week. You probably need to be another controller medication (Singulair can help control asthma but it obviously isn't in your case). I do not understand why you cannot see your doctor for another 7 weeks? Uncontrolled asthma is a life threatening condition...
Avatar f tn I liked your quote without any exertion I can breathe normally...whatever the hell that is. What is normal when you have been short of breath so long. I totally agree. I myself I have COPD as well. My guess would be if it is day 5 without the inhalers, then they should be out of your system. I too had problems with Advair and Spiriva. I was diagnosed in Oct. 07 with moderate COPD. Was put on Advair, Spiriva and ProAir as my rescue inhaler.
1596864 tn?1333485191 Many people will pretreat with their rescue inhaler before exercise. Since you will most likely be outside, you should talk to your doctor about other measures you can take as well. If you have allergies, they could trigger your asthma as well. You may need an antihistamine or various types of nasal spray. Take care.
Avatar f tn That sounds uncomfortable especially in class. By any chance are you super stressed right now? I have a similar sensation when having a bit of panic. I hope you don't mind I asked that! But if you feel your rescue inhaler isn't working, then I'd give your doctor a call. You may need a different inhaler to help in those moments! Does calm breathing exercises help you at all?
