Avatar n tn Xopenx 1.25 mg and Ipratropium Bromide 0.02%.
Avatar n tn I have been using Combivent for about a month together with Asmanex to treat my cough-variant asthma and have had pretty good results. However, the first inhalation of Combivent always triggers a major coughing spell (sometimes it's so severe I almost vomit or my ribs hurt). Are there other bronchodilators that might be easier to inhale and still be effective? Or would using a nebulizer help? I've heard there can be adverse side effects with a nebulizer.
Avatar n tn Anyway, my questionn is, do most asthmatics need nebulizer machines? I own one at home and seem to use at least once a month, and sometimes even once a day during weather changes or severe bronchitis. I actually just made an appointment with a pulmologist (or asthma specialist I guess) this month, which I probably should have a long time ago if it wasn't for my regular primary care doctors telling me I didnt need one.
Avatar f tn Since it sounds like you are sensitive to the beta agonists, it might be worth a try with Atrovent, which is a like Spiriva, but s short acting and somewhat different formula. I would speak with your physician about this medication.
Avatar f tn When you turn the nebulizer, on exhale to the limit of possibility, then inhale from the nebulizer to the limt, take your mouth off the nebulizer and hold your breath as long as you can. Wait four minutes and do the same with two puffs of Atrovent (iatropium bromide). Atrovent (in some people) does not irritate the heart as much. The combination treatments reduce the incidence of tachycardia.
Avatar f tn Yes, Atrovent is ipratropium bromide is used for COPD. I use Duoneb which is a combination of albuterol and ipratropium. You are making me wonder if I can manage with ipratropium alone. I have never tried it. I will ask my lung doctor. I use a portable nebulizer. With that I can take as little as I need (or as much).
Avatar n tn Last year I was diagnosed with Bronchectisis, put on an atrovent inhaler and take mucinex daily. Early December I started coughing more and started having pain in my right lung when I took a deep breath. Sometimes the pain is felt in my mid back area and on my right side in the ribs. The DR. took an x ray which showed a bronchectic infection in my right lung. I was put on 14 days of antibodics which took away the cough and green phlem that I always have.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I have asthma, was diaged w/pneumonia & double ear inf 10 days ago. Not resp. to Avalox & prednisone which I'm finishing. I've never been to one (even though I've had asthma almost 20 yrs)-what to expect?
920032 tn?1550680156 lately my overnight breathing is causing me problems. i asked my gp for singulair but she prescribed atrovent. it does get mucus up but i am waking to cough it up. i have excersize induced asthma. it was on this site that i heard about singulair.
Avatar m tn It is often treated with a drying nasal spray (like Atrovent) and antihistamines like chlorpheniramine and loratadine are effective. Nasal decongestant drops too relieve congestion. Please consult your primary care physician for further evaluation. Regards.
Avatar f tn I am taking atrovent for asthma and i was wondering if i should be spitting out phlem after i take a treatment or does it just break the phlem up and i spit it out whenever?
Avatar f tn I have had seasonal allergies along with dust, cat and dog allergies too since 30 years ago. I finally had 5 years of allegy shot ending aroung 2005, This year has been so bad with all the pollen I feel like I'm right back to day one. My eyes are itchy, my nose runs and my palate is so itchy. I take Atrovent for post nasal drip, aerius for the allergies and I'm also on Advair 250 discuss. Why is this happening after all these years? Will it go away or am I supposed to get shots again.
Avatar f tn He prescribed me atrovent but from what I understand it is usually a substitute for ventolin not steroids. He directed me to take both atrovent and ventolin 2 times a day for a month but I don't really have a long term treatment plan. The doctor seemed a bit stumped as to what else to do. I am suffering from some symptoms almost all the time and regularly have fairly bad attacts. I am very glad to have the ventolin but I'm hoping to find long term treatment for the underlying problem.
Avatar n tn I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes. I had already been discussing the changes with my doctor as my asthma had become much better controlled. I just pushed up the timeline on one and she made the other. God bless.
Avatar f tn My son has suffered that for years. We finally went to a university hospital where they did all the typical GERD related test and as soon as they discovered he actually had GERD, it seemed like they concentrated on that as being the source of his cough, and stopped listening to what he was telling them, that the cough would start as soon as he ate food. It didn't have enough time to get to his stomach and then start to regurge.
Avatar f tn I know a lot of people that prefer and use a nebulizer over an inhaler. I prefer the nebulizer. My doctor has me using the neb more than an inhaler. I am to use my inhaler only when I absolutely cannot use my neb or for very minor issues. Personally, I find it is MUCH more effective. The nebulizer produces a much finer mist than what comes out of an inhaler enabling it to get deeper into the lungs.
212161 tn?1599427282 Hello... I have asthma and take Flovent 2xday and used to take Combivent as needed. My Dr switched me from Combivent to Atrovent. With Atrovent, I find that it doesn't cause my heart to race as much as it did when using the Combivent.
Avatar n tn however, when he gets a cold his asthma ALWAYS worstens . His asthma doctor has me do the nebulizer treatments with albuterol every 4 hrs and singulair pills one in the morning and one before bedtime. Once he gets better then it goes back to just the QVAR. This winter so far has been particularly difficult , he has had a cough , heavy chest congestion for almost 2 months .
889551 tn?1416184483 Lexi will be 9 months on the 9th and we just found out that she has asthma. I had it as a child and so did my brother. DH's brother and his daughter also had/have it. It was something that we had kept an eye out for because her pediatrician said that she was at increased risk to develop it. We had to special order a chamber/mask for her inhaler (flovent) because the pharmacies don't stock them.
1154802 tn?1266485720 If by inhaler you mean the dose measured albuterol, I would say use albuterol in a nebulizer instead. The reason I prefer the nebulizer is that you can use as little as you need since it is not measured. I have a small portable nebulizer (slightly bigger than a cell phone) which I take everywhere with me. As far as effictiveness is concerned, albuterol is albuterol no matter how you take it. I got off the inhaled steroids because they were killing me (literally).
Avatar f tn I cough a lot anymore to the point I can hardly breath. I am on inhalers, steroids, antibiotics and a nebulizer. The nebulizer helps most of all back can only take it 4 times a day. Should I be worried?
Avatar f tn The best and most affective inhalers are stimulants and will cause your heart to race. Anticholenergics like atrovent and Spireva have mild broncho dilating affects, but they are not nearly as good as albuterol or the long-acting beta2 agonists (long acting broncho dilaters). The best thing for you to do is to take controller meds on schedule as directed by your doctor limiting your need for the rescue inhaler. Feel better.
Avatar f tn Phill, the nebulizer just delivers the albuterol in a better form, doesn't it? It's still albuterol? If your doc knows you're on that, it sounds like it would probably be safe to take. Do you have an after hours nurse you could call to confirm that? If you can't get your breathing under control and you feel like you can't catch your breath it's an emergency situation - you can always go to the ER and they will treat you right away. Best wishes with it.
Avatar n tn My son is taking albuterol through the nebulizer. He is having nose bleeds Is this common?
Avatar n tn It is often treated with a drying nasal spray (like Atrovent) and antihistamines like chlopheneramine and lovatidine are effective. Nasal decongestant drops too relieve congestion. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Ihave been told i have c o p d, the lungs of a seventy five year old, yet im not breathless and no cough or wheezieness, is this bad,and what stage have i got, i take a purple and atrovent inhaler, as my throat gets realy tight, please reply thank you
Avatar f tn My OB is perfectly fine with me using my nebulizer and inhaler, but always ask your OB. If you can't breathe, neither can your baby.
