My mother has been put on Atorvastatin and within one week she has had extreme confusion and forgetfulness. This has been the only medical change. Is this a side effect from it and can they show up this quickly?

We believe that this conversion is improbable for 2 reasons
First it requires breaking bonds in two different chiral sites in the molecule which will require substantial energy and will not happen spontaneously
Second the statistical probability that the reforming of the bond in the enantiomer in this very specific way is close to zero.

I don't think the colds are related. But the body aches are possibly rhabomyalgia. So you should be off of it. You could try generic Lipitor (atorvastatin). It usually has less side effects. Also, we totally changed our diet so that my husband only takes the lowest does and 3 times a week. I think he hardly needs it now if at all. We are on the Dr. McDougall diet which is a whole plant based diet, with no added oil or fat. It is basically a fat free vegan diet.
