Is atorvastatin or pravastatin better at monitoring cholestoral? My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Should I be concerned about the effectiveness of pravastatin?
It is easy to find information regarding drug-drug interactions for omeprazole (Prilosec) and atorvastatin (Lipitor). The omeprazole appears to increase the bioavailability of the statin, increasing the risk of side effects. Does this mean that the interaction is like taking a higher dose of the statin, which would provide benefit for someone like me who only takes a low dose (10mg atorvastatin daily) and has no statin tolerance issues?
Hello; I have got one coronary DES stent implanted since two month ago ("Endeavor RESOLUTE RX"). I am on clopidogrel, aspirin, atorvastatin, carvedilol, enalapril and pantoprazol. Fearing about scars growing inside the stent's mesh, I have read that some people recommend vitamin E for cosmetic appearance of scars; well, my question is: Could vitamin E be of some help for preventing "in-stent restenosis"? Is it worth trying? Thanks!
He prescribed Atorvastatin in addition to vitamins but I did a small research about Atorvastatin and find out there are some contradictions about usefulness of Atorvastatin. Of course the contradiction relates to use of Atorvastatin in combination of interferons and he prescribed Atorvastatin in combination with vitamins but I have not decided whether I use it or not.

I have used 10mg Atorvastatin for years with no side effects. The doctor is switching me to simvastatin which reacted badly with my liver in the past. Aim is to save money. Is it safe to buy Atorvastatin online ?
What is the statistic probability that Atorvastatin Ca will convert itself into his enantiomer?
We believe that this conversion is improbable for 2 reasons
First it requires breaking bonds in two different chiral sites in the molecule which will require substantial energy and will not happen spontaneously
Second the statistical probability that the reforming of the bond in the enantiomer in this very specific way is close to zero.

You are only taking a very small dosage of Atorvastatin, most people are on 40mg daily.
Only around 20% of the fat in your blood comes from food, the Liver can make fat by itself and does. Without statins my total cholesterol is 375-400. With 40mg of Atorvastatin accompanied by Ezetimibe, It is 160-162.
It has to be said though, more and more research is revealing that fats have little to do with it. I don't think it will be much longer before they finally find the culprit.
I have been told by my doctors for years that my cholesterol is bad. I was just prescribed 20mg Atorvastatin and took my first dose last night. My endocrinologist prescribed me Atorvastatin 40mg in place of the simvastatin but it has since given my major chest pain and muscle weakness in my fingers and legs; so I was advised by the pharmacist to stop that and I have only taken the new statin twice and tonight was the second time taking it.

I have spent hours and hours reading the research on statins, both US and European (I have a research background) and, quite frankly, most of the research is worthless. As one chemist put it after looking at some of the statin research, if his experiments in chemistry were as faulted as the statin research he looked at, he would never get published anywhere. He was surprised that such badly designed research was looked upon as credible.
