Common Questions and Answers about Atorvastatin molecular structure

Avatar m tn t know very much about the molecular structure. I find it a bit hard to understand, but I get pieces of it. This one seemed more concise then the the last one I sent you. - Dave http://www.natap.org/2001/jun/MoleBio.
Avatar n tn Is atorvastatin or pravastatin better at monitoring cholestoral? My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Should I be concerned about the effectiveness of pravastatin?
Avatar n tn t need to be abnormally concerned about retinal detachment but there is no doubt that your risk of one is higher than the general population. The cellular and molecular structure of your vitreous gel may be weaker than some and combined with your myopia and possible family history and genetics it all means that you need to be seen by an ophthalmolgist to have a detailed retinal exam and regular follow up visits about once a year and as needed for new symptoms.
Avatar n tn since they were designed to disrupt a very specific molecular mechanism responsible for the growth of cancer cells. Both drugs target human epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFRs). These are molecules found on the surface of cancer cells which accept growth stimuli from the cells' outside environment. Disrupting the function of the EGFRs stops the growth of cancer cells and makes them more susceptible to the effects of cytotoxic chemotherapy drugs.
Avatar n tn It is easy to find information regarding drug-drug interactions for omeprazole (Prilosec) and atorvastatin (Lipitor). The omeprazole appears to increase the bioavailability of the statin, increasing the risk of side effects. Does this mean that the interaction is like taking a higher dose of the statin, which would provide benefit for someone like me who only takes a low dose (10mg atorvastatin daily) and has no statin tolerance issues?
373367 tn?1246402035 He calls this molecular mimicry and says that this happens to people predisposed to having MS. I knew that the body attacked itself, but didn't reallize it was because it saw the myelin as a section of a bacteria/virus. I know a lot of you have had EBV and might find this interesting. OR, maybe I was the only one who hadn't put it all together--lol!
Avatar n tn I have used 10mg Atorvastatin for years with no side effects. The doctor is switching me to simvastatin which reacted badly with my liver in the past. Aim is to save money. Is it safe to buy Atorvastatin online ?
Avatar n tn In its pure state, it is odorless and has a white or colorless vitreous crystal appearance, with a crystal structure that cleaves easily in three directions. Potassium chloride crystals are face-centered cubic. Potassium chloride is occasionally known as "muriate of potash," particularly when used as a fertilizer. Potash varies in color from pink or red to white depending on the mining and recovery process used.
467579 tn?1289402969 I am finding that most Dr.'s on this subject to just not be there. Maybe because emphysema is such a politically incorrect disease to have, even if it has nothing to do with smoking or who knows.
Avatar n tn What is the statistic probability that Atorvastatin Ca will convert itself into his enantiomer? We believe that this conversion is improbable for 2 reasons First it requires breaking bonds in two different chiral sites in the molecule which will require substantial energy and will not happen spontaneously Second the statistical probability that the reforming of the bond in the enantiomer in this very specific way is close to zero. We would be appreciative to hear your opinion.
Avatar m tn She is not alcoholically person and never drink in her live. She has heart disease and take atorvastatin for 10 years and also donepezil and ladiomil for 4 years. Since her doctor discover problem with GOT and GPT she stopped taking atorvastatin (3mounts before) because they were suspicious that atorvastatin was reason for this problem but again GOP and GPT increase. Next step was cancer marker (CA19-9 = 34.4, AST = 5.47, CEA=3.22) and virus markers (HBsAg Es = 0.13 negative, Anti-HCV = 0.
Avatar m tn If the atorvastatin is keeping your triglycerides down, you will need to continue taking this medication for life, UNLESS, you can get the trigs down thru diet. I assume you tried this before being prescribed the medication. Your trigs are currently 1.48mmol/L which is below the limit required for safety (1.7). You are only taking a very small dosage of Atorvastatin, most people are on 40mg daily.
Avatar n tn s not exactly the same molecular structure as naturally occurring progesterone in our bodies. That can sometimes mean more side effects for some women. Others have no problems with it. Prometrium is the "bio-identical" form of progesterone.
317822 tn?1223241475 I have read info that the loperamide was orignally designed to be a very strong narcotic in fact its molecular structure is very similar to fentynal but it doesnt cross the blood brain barrier like opiates do so its only used for its constipation type effects much like other opiates. I have taken it on many occasions for withdrawl (12mg+)and while it wont ease it completly it does really help and if it is a placebo effect..well hell I felt better so who cares!
Avatar f tn I think you should spend more time with your child in developing his interests more and more in activities like music, art, sports or books, to keep his mind occupied into something good and healthy, something positive, to help him keep his mind from wandering into thoughts that are negative or destructive toward self or others.
Avatar f tn My endocrinologist prescribed me Atorvastatin 40mg in place of the simvastatin but it has since given my major chest pain and muscle weakness in my fingers and legs; so I was advised by the pharmacist to stop that and I have only taken the new statin twice and tonight was the second time taking it. Is simvastatin something that can be eased up to a higher dose to do the exact same thing atorvastatin does for the bad cholesterol?
Avatar f tn The poor thyroid gland is similar in molecular structure to gluten and eventually the antibodies go after it as well. Why don't most endos tell us this? They just give us Synthroid and send us on our way. Cutting gluten out of my diet has changed my life. Read my journal. See my photos of my neck swelling and how it is now gone. Hashimoto's will not kill you. One little nodule will not kill you. Relax....
Avatar n tn My mother has been put on Atorvastatin and within one week she has had extreme confusion and forgetfulness. This has been the only medical change. Is this a side effect from it and can they show up this quickly?
Avatar m tn He prescribed Atorvastatin in addition to vitamins but I did a small research about Atorvastatin and find out there are some contradictions about usefulness of Atorvastatin. Of course the contradiction relates to use of Atorvastatin in combination of interferons and he prescribed Atorvastatin in combination with vitamins but I have not decided whether I use it or not. 1->http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18398457 2->http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
