Avatar n tn Two recent trials have compared the clinical outcomes of intensive lipid lowering with atorvastatin 80 mg/day and standard lowering with pravastatin 40 mg/day. In the Pravastatin or Atorvastatin Evaluation and Infection Therapy (PROVE IT) trial, patients with acute coronary artery syndromes were enrolled, and pravastatin lowered the low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol to 2.46 mmol/l, whereas atorvastatin lowered it to 1.60 mmol/l.

Avatar n tn //www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5033144/ You can copy and paste that article. It's supposed to be fairly modest. This article also talks about increased effect and blood levels of atorvastatin with this combination. https://www.drugs.com/drug-interactions/lipitor-with-prilosec-276-128-1750-1118.html I would talk to your doctor before doing this though to be on the same page.

Avatar f tn My endocrinologist prescribed me Atorvastatin 40mg in place of the simvastatin but it has since given my major chest pain and muscle weakness in my fingers and legs; so I was advised by the pharmacist to stop that and I have only taken the new statin twice and tonight was the second time taking it. Is simvastatin something that can be eased up to a higher dose to do the exact same thing atorvastatin does for the bad cholesterol?
Avatar m tn He prescribed Atorvastatin in addition to vitamins but I did a small research about Atorvastatin and find out there are some contradictions about usefulness of Atorvastatin. Of course the contradiction relates to use of Atorvastatin in combination of interferons and he prescribed Atorvastatin in combination with vitamins but I have not decided whether I use it or not. 1->http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18398457 2->http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar n tn My mother has been put on Atorvastatin and within one week she has had extreme confusion and forgetfulness. This has been the only medical change. Is this a side effect from it and can they show up this quickly?
Avatar m tn 57 Male never on medication and gym rat. I have been on Atorvastatin 40mg since middle of March. It was prescribed by my cardiologist for slightly high cholesterol level 225. Along with BP Med Losartan 50mg. All of this started when I wasn't feeling very well one day in February and went to outpatient clinic. Since then I've had a heart monitor, CT scan of heart and angiogram. All normal except angiogram showed one 70% blockage.
Business man2 t forget a Rx, I’ve taken all my “Rx meds and other OTC items” (with at least 12oz of water) first thing upon rising in the morning …. followed immediately by my same-breakfast-of-7 years of 2 “unprocessed” whole grain/nut/fruit breakfast bars (held together by (alas) maltose) and a full 20oz+ of water.
Avatar m tn But do know that your lipid numbers may be at goal BECAUSE of the atorvastatin, so stopping it may make the level worse than they are now. In addition there is also good supportive data about this class of medications in terms of preventing heart disease in people with diabetes, so overall it is a good idea to have it on your medication regimen, unless there are reasons why you should not be taking it. So discuss further with your doctor if you are concerned. Take care.

Avatar m tn I have had angioplasty done 5 months ago and now I am on heart related medicines Nitroglycerin, Clopidogrel+Ecosporin and Atorvastatin. I wear artificial denture. Last month I had surgery for cataract in my eye. My evacuation system is working fine, although sometimes I miss a day or two. I do not take any medication for this and the bowl movement becomes regular on its own. I want to know the reason for white coating on my tongue and the crack in it.
Avatar m tn I have polyneuropathy in both my feet which may have been caused by statin drugs I took in the past, but am not sure. Do statins cause neuropathy? A doctor recently prescribed Atorvastatin for me daily to reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks. I am 62. Is it OK for me to take this?
Avatar f tn My dad who is 81 years old in India is on Citilin 500mg daily. The neurologist prescribed it after he had TIA number of times. He used to get seizures like symptoms and loose his consciousness. He was bedridden and stopped walking completely. Now, he is up on his feet and doing his regular work after regular physiotherapy. At first, he had trigeminal neuralgia and he was on carbamezapine 150mg twice daily and then 300mg twice daily. I just need to know how long he has to be on Citilin.
Avatar m tn Lipitor (atorvastatin) is a high-intensity statin and is prescribed to lower cholesterol levels in the blood. There are alternatives for Lipitor that may not show this side-effect. (i.e. rosuvastatin=Crestor) My advice is to contact the cardiologist ask ask him/her if it is possible to switch to an alternative.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Losartan 25mg in the morning and 25 metoprolol succinate ER in the evening. My BP in the morning always ranges from 120/70 to 130/80 and evening it goes upto anywhere between 140/80 to 150/90 and some times even 160/100(rarely- but had readings like that). My HR in the morning is aroung 70 BPM and increases to around 90 in the evening.
Avatar n tn I have never had trouble sleeping through the night -- until my doctor prescribed Lipitor (atorvastatin). My cardiologist tells me that I need a statin for my cardiac health, but now I only get 4-5 hours of sleep at night before I need to get up and pee. Than, I only get back to sleep about 1/3 of the time. Lack of sleep robs me of energy, and makes me irritable -- not good ! Does anyone know about the side-effects of other statins that I might take instead ?
