Avatar n tn Is atorvastatin or pravastatin better at monitoring cholestoral? My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Should I be concerned about the effectiveness of pravastatin?
Avatar f tn In reviewing a number of PubMed articles it appears that an alternative might be Gallstone dissolution therapy using Ursodiol. The Physicians at the hospital could/would not tell me the size of the gallstones, nor did they know whether they were cholesterol based. I felt they were railroading me into surgery. I decided to check myself out of the hospital. I was able to get them to prescribe 30 days worth of Ursodiol.
Avatar n tn It is easy to find information regarding drug-drug interactions for omeprazole (Prilosec) and atorvastatin (Lipitor). The omeprazole appears to increase the bioavailability of the statin, increasing the risk of side effects. Does this mean that the interaction is like taking a higher dose of the statin, which would provide benefit for someone like me who only takes a low dose (10mg atorvastatin daily) and has no statin tolerance issues?
Avatar n tn I have used 10mg Atorvastatin for years with no side effects. The doctor is switching me to simvastatin which reacted badly with my liver in the past. Aim is to save money. Is it safe to buy Atorvastatin online ?
Avatar n tn What is the statistic probability that Atorvastatin Ca will convert itself into his enantiomer? We believe that this conversion is improbable for 2 reasons First it requires breaking bonds in two different chiral sites in the molecule which will require substantial energy and will not happen spontaneously Second the statistical probability that the reforming of the bond in the enantiomer in this very specific way is close to zero. We would be appreciative to hear your opinion.
Avatar m tn She is not alcoholically person and never drink in her live. She has heart disease and take atorvastatin for 10 years and also donepezil and ladiomil for 4 years. Since her doctor discover problem with GOT and GPT she stopped taking atorvastatin (3mounts before) because they were suspicious that atorvastatin was reason for this problem but again GOP and GPT increase. Next step was cancer marker (CA19-9 = 34.4, AST = 5.47, CEA=3.22) and virus markers (HBsAg Es = 0.13 negative, Anti-HCV = 0.
Avatar m tn If the atorvastatin is keeping your triglycerides down, you will need to continue taking this medication for life, UNLESS, you can get the trigs down thru diet. I assume you tried this before being prescribed the medication. Your trigs are currently 1.48mmol/L which is below the limit required for safety (1.7). You are only taking a very small dosage of Atorvastatin, most people are on 40mg daily.
Avatar n tn A new computer software developed by researchers at the University at Buffalo that simulates clot dissolution using the same techniques employed to analyze chemical reactors will provide information for physicians to know precisely how blood clots, and then tailor drug therapies and reduce patients risks The computer software is a program that provides a 'snapshot' of a blood clot undergoing dissolution, By simulating reaction and transport processes at and near the clot, the softwar
Avatar f tn Every radiologist that I have worked with requires a negative ultrasound within 90 days before administering Kinevac (CCK analogue). Further, gallstone dissolution was basically thrown out with the 1992 NIH concensus report on the management of gallbladder disease in everyone except those with an unexcepatably high surgical risk.
Avatar f tn My endocrinologist prescribed me Atorvastatin 40mg in place of the simvastatin but it has since given my major chest pain and muscle weakness in my fingers and legs; so I was advised by the pharmacist to stop that and I have only taken the new statin twice and tonight was the second time taking it. Is simvastatin something that can be eased up to a higher dose to do the exact same thing atorvastatin does for the bad cholesterol?
Avatar n tn One last question-- What type of specialist/s would I want to see for lithotripsy or for contact dissolution therapy (or any other treatment that isn't going to include removing the gallbladder)?
Avatar m tn I am asking as I am still young enough to safely carry out surgery a few months, or years later (should bile acid therapy fail) and given that the gallstones were not visible in the CT scan, potentially making them better candidates for bile acid dissolution. Moreover, I suspect my gallstones may have been the result of some previous fasting / rapid weight loss, which I will be careful to avoid in the future. Thank you in advance for your opinion on this.
Avatar n tn My mother has been put on Atorvastatin and within one week she has had extreme confusion and forgetfulness. This has been the only medical change. Is this a side effect from it and can they show up this quickly?
Avatar m tn He prescribed Atorvastatin in addition to vitamins but I did a small research about Atorvastatin and find out there are some contradictions about usefulness of Atorvastatin. Of course the contradiction relates to use of Atorvastatin in combination of interferons and he prescribed Atorvastatin in combination with vitamins but I have not decided whether I use it or not. 1->http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18398457 2->http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar m tn 57 Male never on medication and gym rat. I have been on Atorvastatin 40mg since middle of March. It was prescribed by my cardiologist for slightly high cholesterol level 225. Along with BP Med Losartan 50mg. All of this started when I wasn't feeling very well one day in February and went to outpatient clinic. Since then I've had a heart monitor, CT scan of heart and angiogram. All normal except angiogram showed one 70% blockage.
1677547 tn?1304484766 it functions by decreasing blood loss plus it helps in dissolution of clots....however for irregularity of periods u should go to a gynacologist for a quick check up.......
Avatar m tn s primary care physician(PCP) did a repeat LDL yesterday and the value was 101. It was 115 last month. The PCP has prescribed Atorvastatin (5 mg) for 20 days. If my father has no side-effects in the 20 days, he was asked to take Atorlip for 6 months. My father's sugar and blood pressure values are normal. All other values in his lipid profile are normal.
Avatar m tn These drugs may affect dissolution, absorption, and overall efficacy of some oral medications, but do not afffect HIV ab. blood tests. Drugs are my specialty, so I will let someone else answer your "window period question".
