Avatar m tn People keep telling me that the Atkins diet is unhealthy, but my labs tell me differently. I lose weight on this diet and for the 1st time in 20 year my triglycerides are below 200. Also my cholesterol has come back into the good range. I feel better and have more energy, so why is this diet a bad thing? Maybe I don't see the big picture, please let me know.
1054985 tn?1257173275 I have been on atkins for 3 years, diagnosed with MS 6 months ago. Anyone try the diet? I feel great with enough energy to drag myself to the gym on a regular basis. Wondering if anyone has had succsess.

Avatar f tn I switched to an Atkins-like lifestyle about a year ago after being told I had be become a type 2 diabetic. I reduced my carbohydrate intake to less than 50 grams per day. I found that my overall heart rhythm improved and noticed a reduction in the number of PVC's.
451075 tn?1210258648 thanks everyone for the input, means a lot. I decided to ditch Oat Brand and replace that with mixed berries in the morning. Then have some more berries during the middle of the day. I am feeling great and my workouts are great too so far (I am 3 days into the diet).
768251 tn?1256734583 Atkins Diet. Read the book. Induction all the way to re-introduction of Carbs. It is as simple as that. If done correct it is safe, and enjoyable.
Avatar f tn So I don't know if it's the diet or what but he's grumpy all the time, is it bad to ask him to halt until after I'm not preggo and emotionally sensitive cause his mood swings and giving me whip lash.
1464587 tn?1307491605 or none if you can, good proteins and high fiber. A couple people refered to it like the atkins diet, since atkins seems to I think concentrate on meats (proteins), low fats, and little to no carbs. And thank you soooo much jackie on that chocolate refernce!! I will so look for it the next time I'm at the store =D And the meat I have is very little, just once a day, and half the portion of my veggies =) and it is very lean.... maybe 2 grams of fat per night. And as far as the egg whites..
4054761 tn?1349368749 So glad to find someone following the same program as ME! Can I request you as a friend? Sure hope so.
5890854 tn?1377264632 SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE DOING GREAT! I WENT ON THE ATKINS DIET AFTER I HAD MY SON AND LOST ALL OF THE BABY WEIGHT (57 LBS) IN THREE MONTHS. I HAD SO MUCH ENERGY AND WAS NEVER HUNGRY BC YOU CAN EAT WHATEVER N THE HELL YOU WANT EXCEPT CARBS. IF YOU SWING BY THE ATKINS WEBSITE YOU CAN GET A FREE CARB COUNTER AND DIET PLAN... IT'S SUPER EASY AND THE WEIGHT JUST MELTS OFF. IF YOU HAVE ANY CHOLESTEROL PROBLEMS THIS DIET WOULDN'T BE GOOD FOR YOU BUT OTHERWISE I CANT PRAISE IT ENOUGH.
732164 tn?1237118767 I had a lap band and the diet you have to follow for that is a modified version of Atkins. It's all about low carbs, high protein, but its also low in sugar/fat. I did really well with it and am doing it again. I posted before that I don't really feel like my lapband did TOO much good, its just as much diet/exercise after as it was before. But the protein definitely fills you up more than the carbs.
Avatar m tn I'd personally avoid Atkins -- or any fad diet, actually. Atkins has more research on it than any other diet because it was developed originally to prevent heart disease (the creator, Dr. Atkins, died of heart disease!) The research showed that the diet did not work in the long run and was unhealthy in the long run, as it's too high in protein and too low in antioxidant rich foods.
219363 tn?1189755821 The key to weight loss is long-term efforts -- would only do this kind of diet if you can eat this way long-term. It seems leaner than Atkins, but usually will be very difficult to maintain a diet that avoids starches entirely.
1159480 tn?1263405571 m glad to see some positive talk about the Atkins/lo carb diet. I went on the Atkins diet about 6 years ago. I lost about 50 lbs. Once you get used to it, it's easy. And, I kept the weight off for the 6 years. I only gained back a few pounds when I started eating carbs again. You really get used to not eating alot of bread and sweets and it does not bother you after awhile. Unfortunately, what killed me was menopause. I gave in to the cravings for sweets and gained more weight back.
Avatar n tn DO NOT go on a high protein low carb diet . Atkins is horrible! It causes your bad cholesterol to go way up. And you will only Lose water weight. You will also stave your body of glucose. Your average daily protein intake should be 15 to 20 percent of your total daily calories. According to the U.S. Food and Nutrition Board, the preferred form of protein is from non animal sources: beans, legumes, nuts, and seeds. They are also naturally lower in fat too.
Avatar m tn I've done the Atkins with amazing results. However, when I do the Atkins, something about it makes my blood pressure a little higher and my heart rate easier to raise. Running up the stairs isn't such a big deal normally, but on Atkins I feel like my heart is trying to jump out of my chest. I can easily lose 40 pounds in a few months on the Atkins, and while I generally feel better (look better/breathe easier), my symptoms feel a little worse.
Avatar f tn i never doubt this diet it always worked ace have u tried the atkins diet and also up ur excersize to to more extreme such as jogging like u said is great and also skipping and push ups sit ups jumping jacks ect
Avatar f tn Be patient and the weight will drop as the body is going through a necessary adjustment during this plateau period. I also lost a lot of weight on the Atkins diet. I started 9 years ago (my 2nd try with it)... went off last year (big mistake!) because the man that I was dating during that time didn't like watching me diet. So, I had gained some "dating" weight... but, fortunately, not a whole lot. I'm not dating that man anymore; so I'm now back on track with the diet.
764257 tn?1234724152 I agree with the above. Talk to your doctor about whether you should try Atkins or not. I was on Atkins for approximately 5 months (something happened and I completely stopped eating, but it isn't related to the diet). The results were fantastic. By the end of the second week I (a carb lover) didn't want to eat carbs although I was still eating fruits and veggies. I lost weight and I felt good.

484844 tn?1253968693 I've done the Atkins diet and lost a lot initially but it didn't stay off and I ended up with gout because I stayed on the initial part too long. I have friends who have done the South Beach diet who were very successful at losing weight and did keep it off. Good luck!
Avatar f tn A low carb diet consists of mainly vegetables and unprocessed meats ( no hotdogs or already made things containing meat.) Things to avoid would be grains, fruits, corn, potatoes, etc. This is really hard to do because it leaves out a lot of the sugary things in your diet, that overall, people seem to crave. However, carbs aren't all bad. A lot of the energy we get for the day comes from carbs, which makes them pretty important. Too many carbs can be a problem.
942939 tn?1245426724 The usual cardio exercise routine, some weight lifting, a little calorie deficit, drinking lots of water and making that a lifestyle and switching the type of carbs you eat should guarantee a result of some sort. I don't recommend any kind of diet plan like Atkins as you will put the weight back on again once you finish the diet. It's a waste of time.
Avatar m tn What is your son's diet like? I see he has acne from the above information - which means hormone imbalance. His skin says his body is not functioning optimally for some unknown reason - many people have eczema, but for many different reasons. For some people it is simple - they might not be able to break down vitamin b6 into a useable form called p5p (genetic glitch) - so replacing with p5p, not the usual b6 in vitamins, will cure the problem (just an example of one scenario).
