1041243 tn?1375230520 It seems that you may not be taking the medication that you doctor gave you. The Ativan and clonodine will help you to sleep and the ativan will help prevent seizures and anxiety. Please take your doctors advise with the medication - you will get some sleep. Go to the AA meetings too - you will gain some valuable support. Best of luck and keep coming back.
Avatar f tn At that dosage and that short of time period I think you could just stop but I would check with your dr since benzo withdrawal can cause seizures......
Avatar m tn I have been prescribed Ativan by my family doctor for about four years now for anxiety with the past year being on 6 mg per day with renewals every 3 months. After finishing a project and being out of work I decided to go down to 4 mg per day due to less stress which my doctor supported. When I went back for my renewal 3 months later my Dr said he doesn't prescribe Ativan anymore.
Avatar n tn I have been on Ativan reguarly for about three months. Taking about 5-6mg a day. My family Dr. and I have dscussed getting me off the ativan for my aniexety. So started decresing the dose to 21mg a week then 14mg which I am at right now. About a month and a half ago I had a seizure at work and again last night. Now both of these times I had stopped taking the ativan for three days because I was drinking on the weekend. Are the seizures from tha?.
Avatar f tn Know what you are getting into, and if at all possible stop taking the drug as soon as you can.
Avatar f tn Is sleepiness a sign of withdrawal? Other than that I’m going great, I feel better, more motivated. I was controlled by ATIVAN because of my negligence.
Avatar f tn I've never heard of Ativan causing those kinds of symptoms. I have been off and on it during different periods of my life, and have never experienced anything like that.
Avatar f tn it needs to be slow tapered to avoid seizures if you did get a hold of a doctor and tell them what you did seizures can happen several days into a benzo withdrawal its nothing to mess with let us know how this turns out good luck and God bless.....
Avatar n tn ever since i was placed in the hospital the day i had (2) Grand Mal Seizures the Dr. put me back on Ativan and i had no Seizures again since. But when the Nuro. saw my Abnormal EEG (HE SAID IT HAD A ABNORMAL SPIKE IN MY TEMPORAL LOBE) he then put me on Brain Meds the day i was released from the Hospital and i don't want to take this crap, It's called Trileptal 300mg a total of 1200mg Every day....
Avatar n tn you should not attempt this without medical advice. alcohol withdrawal is a potentially life-threatening condition that can result in seizures, cardiac arrest, and severe psychological distress. your vital signs and neurological condition should be monitored to determine the correct dosing of any medications as well as any other treatment.
1181804 tn?1333402805 OK. I struggled with my opiate addiction so much that I never fully realized how physically addicting I was becoming to ativan too. The doctor who helped me wean off the percocets by putting me on suboxone and then slowly wean me off those over a one year period told me that I can't be on ativan while on suboxone. Well, my Primary Care had put me on the ativan (.5 / 2 X a day- but I took more when I "needed" it.......
Avatar f tn Tapering off should be at a schedule that suits you, not some generalized one that your psychiatrist does for everyone. It's also usually, though definitely not always, best to do this with a psychopharmacologist, not a general doc, just because they do it a lot more often. Now, you don't say if you're taking them every day or several times a day or just as needed, but still, safe is best. Don't quit abruptly, as that can lead to worse withdrawal and possible seizures.
Avatar n tn You are supposed to be taking one per day? I am not sure if I understand the question. Are you wanting to triple up on what you should be taking? I am an addict...I have taken it all. Xanax is by far the worst drug to come off of. Not to mention stopping Xanax cold turkey can be deadly. The risk of seizure stopping it cold turkey is very high. If I had to do it all over again I NEVER and I mean NEVER would have gotten near any benzo.
Avatar m tn I feel fine but just got spooked reading about withdrawal and seizures et al. Can someone confirm this extremely short-term usage is not going to lead to any real withdrawal symptomes? Thanks.
Avatar f tn If someone has been on ativan and xanax for ten years, how do they wean themselves off them safely? This discussion is related to xanax withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Ativan for almost 3 years now. At first, I was taking 1mg twice a day. Eventually I brought it down to only taking 1mg every 2-3 days. After researching and finding out more about it, I really don't want to take this drug at all and I'm upset that I was ever prescribed it in the first place. I just got 0.5mg tablets and I have been taking them once a day for about a week now and noticing an increase in my anxiety. Am I tapering correctly?
Avatar f tn I am a nurse with a patient who came to me upset; she was taken off Ativan cold turkey, and I'm afraid she will go into withdrawals soon. I'm not sure how legal or ethical it is for a doctor to do this. I have seen patients experience grand mal seizures from being taken off without weaning. It angers me for her. How can I help her? Also, is it illegal? I can advise her to file a complaint with the local Medical Society, but not sure that would do any good. ANY advice is welcome!
Avatar n tn Stopping suddenly can be dangerous. But I do know that they do use ativan to help prevent seizures or if someone is having a seizure they give them ativan to help with it. If you absolutely cannot go to a hospital to get help I would try taking a whole ativan instead of just half of one it really does make a difference in calming everything down. But if taking a whole pill twice a day doesn't help I would definitely go to the hospital.
Avatar f tn As I said they sometimes will switch you to valium and then taper off that rather than the ativan. Seizures are possible but not very common for someone on such a low dose. I have known many people to be on upwards of 10-16mg xanax a day and they are very likely to get seizures. You should make sure that you are not alone during your wd too just in case you do have a seizure someone will be there to help. I think youll be fine though. I wish you the best of luck and hope you feel better soon.
Avatar f tn You want to do a cross-switch slowly bringing in the natural benzo to avoid any withdrawal symptoms. 3 Ativan a day for a relatively long period of time could lead to severe withdrawal symptoms even seizures.
Avatar f tn s just that I have heard of people who have experienced withdrawal symptoms after taking very low doses of ativan for a very short time. To be honest, even if I am not the addictive kind, right now with all I've been through lately I am unsure as to how my body (nervous system mainly) might react and honestly I wouldn't want to add to my already existing problems.
Avatar f tn Not only is there a risk for seizures and whatnot but it is one of the most uncomfortable feelings that you can experience. I have been on benzos for 11 years. Ativan withdrawal is unbelievable. I went 48 hours without any and it was hell. The worse part was the fact that my mom has some in her room that she never takes but her husband thought it was better that I suffer. I would fall asleep for an hour and than it would take 3 hours to fall back asleep.
Avatar m tn In my opinion for what it's worth, benzo's are really sneaky and scary drugs. I flopped from xanax to ativan to xanax. The thing is it wasn't even my DOC but when I detoxed they were more cautious getting me off of that than the opiates. I took phenobarbitol for a week tapering every day until I was at none to avoid seizures, and other non-appealing effects. It doesn't take long at all to get to the point that you can't sleep with it either.
