Common Questions and Answers about Ativan withdrawal insomnia

Avatar m tn If you are 72 hours in already, I would say just to keep going, I would get a little bit of withdrawal effect when stopping the Ativan, but it didn't last long due to being on it such short periods of time (which is what is ultimately meant for), but they were nothing too bad, mostly just anxiety and having a hard time with sleep due to anxiety. You weren't taking a very high dose, and not very often, but every drug effects every person differently.
3127670 tn?1342373916 I have a script for ativan that I got a few months back due to severe anxiety with the relationship I was in...didnt really take them because I read horror stories about the withdrawals....now in my withdrawal from opiates...day three now...I cant f***** sit still....cant sleep...becoming unbareable..I just took 1 mg of ativan and now feel guilty...I want to be free of ALL drugs and dont need another habit to kick (smoking is next)...anyone have experience with this???
Avatar m tn I was taking 4 mg of ativan (way too high), as well as 10 mg ambien for insomnia. I managed to taper off the ativan using valium when I got to the smaller doses of ativan. Now I am done with the valium (as of August 1) but am still having rebound insomnia and jittery feelings. I still take 10 mg of ambien at night to sleep, but it isn't really working. I've gone many nights now with minimal sleep and do function during the day.

Avatar m tn Ive been taking xanax for two months now. And he wants me to take lorazepam 1mg intead of the xanax. Will I get withdrawal symptoms of the xanax? Thanx....
358304 tn?1409709492 I didnt have any ativan withdrawal issues though! Probably b/c, if I was having them, i didnt know it b/c the Klonopin was in me and I was cool. I took .5mg to .25mg of klonopin for 2 months almost. I only took it once a day before bed. This therapist of mine didnt even tell me how to take it. It was frustrating! But I was feeling pretty stable for a while on the klonopin and lexapro 10mg.
Avatar f tn They were for insomnia.. but they did not help the insomnia at all so her doctor took her off of them. She was on kolopin then was given ativan to withdraw off the klonopin. then was put on diazepam to get off the ativan. She was on Diazepam for a very short time. ( maybe 2 weeks ) then she was taken off of them and that was 3.5 weeks ago. We have an apt with her doctor weds, who we told about the suicidal thoughts and he still did not up the appointment.
Avatar f tn 6 weeks is not really long enough for you to experience an actual "withdrawal" from the Ativan, typically a "short term" course of treatment is considered 3 months or less. Those people who are on Ativan short-term won't typically experience a withdrawal, but there IS a possibility of some rebound anxiety, which is probably what you're dealing with. The increase in anxiety will evebntually subside, but it may take a few weeks. Same with the sleep symptoms.
Avatar f tn I was on Norco 10/325mg and lortab 7.5/325mg for over four years.I originally got put on the Norco 10s for a foot injury. I stand on my feet nearly all of my shift at work. So it was absolutely necessary for me to use the pain pills. I even had to cut a hole in my shoe due to the pain. Well..The foot got better...but by then I was hooked on the "warm and fuzzy" feeling that the pain pills gave me... It was only 2 norco 10s twice a day at first... By the end....
358304 tn?1409709492 Or I dunno maybe Klonopin was masking Ativan withdrawal? Bc I stopped Ativan after 2.5 years then switched directly to Klonopin for 2 months without weaning off my last Ativan kick. I usually don't take Ativan any longer than 2-4 weeks at a time. Then I can go without it for a month or so, as long as I'm not having anxiety really bad. Hmmm... Lots to think about.
Avatar n tn i have a chemically induced daze, little fatigue , muscle aches amd slight insomnia and melatonin doesnt seem to kick in , so i tale a little Ativan and it helps a little.
Avatar m tn it wont be that bad youre not on a very high dose at all, I was taking originally 6 mgs per night for insomnia and opiate withdrawal and then downed it to 4 mgs and three weeeks later down to 2 mgs, next week ill go down to 1mgs, and then lower and lower, it just takes time and patience, if you do it too soon you will be very uncomfortable and in major withdrawal, and benzo withdrawal is nothing to mess with for sure.
Avatar f tn s just that I have heard of people who have experienced withdrawal symptoms after taking very low doses of ativan for a very short time. To be honest, even if I am not the addictive kind, right now with all I've been through lately I am unsure as to how my body (nervous system mainly) might react and honestly I wouldn't want to add to my already existing problems.
Avatar f tn but when I woke up today, the numb feeling/tingling has returned (it seems happen when the ativan wears off). Is it possible to have withdrawal symptoms after having taken celexa for only 2 weeks?! Any insight would be appreciated!
Avatar m tn I was put on 1.5 mgs of Ativan daily for Anxiety and insomnia postpartum. It's been 5 months and I've taken it everyday. Im very concerned about stopping the medication because of withdrawal symptoms. I'm terrified of having worse anxiety and panic attacks again. Are these types of withdrawals guaranteed to happen if I have taken 1 and half Mgs everyday for 5 months? Thank you in advance for your help.
270554 tn?1289511647 before I stopped xanax I was moving around doing things I could concentrate and now I feel lifeless I have a major stomach issue before this and this withdrawal is making it worse as well...I did not know about xanax withdrawal or anything...I was taking it to help me sleep through pain...but I relized that the med was a controling med and I did not want to take it anymore... How long until I expect improvement? I was told to take .
8265858 tn?1403378544 As you already know, it usually takes several weeks of the really nasty symptoms of acute withdrawal, followed by several months of just insomnia and general weakness and depression. A physician may be able to prescribe you some Neurontin (gabapentin) for general malaise, anxiety and muscle cramps, Requip for the restless leg syndrome and possibly something like Seroquel low dose for the insomnia.
Avatar f tn I decided to quit drinking. I am on day Three. I'm taking 1.5 mg Ativan at bedtime to help (prescribed by my doctor) and I am OK. Thanks to everyone who reached out to me in the past. It just took me a while to get to the place I needed to be to stop.
Avatar n tn (Antianxiety) The main uses for Ativan are anxiety, irritability in psychiatric or organic disorders, preoperatively, insomnia, and as an adjunct in endoscopic procedures. It's "unlabeled" uses are antiemetic prior to chemotherapy, status epilepticus, rectal use, alcohol withdrawal and seizure prophylaxis. Nowhere in any medical reference does it state Ativan is used for the treatment of depression.
Avatar m tn My doctor prescribed ativan for anxiety in December, 2008. I was taking .5mg. three times daily. It got worse and he prescribed lexapro (10mg) a day in conjuction with the ativan. It got worse and he prescribed 1mg of ativan three times daily. I am now down to two mg daily and I fell better. However, he suggested I take ..5 mg in the morning and .5 in the evening. Immediately, it brought on a severe anxiety attack. I want to ween safely. Please advise. I stll take lexapro at night.
Avatar f tn ve tried Klonopin and that unfortunately made me feel depressed. Ativan seems to help, but a full mg. makes me very tired while helping the anxiety. The instructions on the bottle say to take 1 mg 3 times a day as needed. I've never taken near that much in a day. I also have Valium here but a 5 mg tablet made me incredibly drowsy. I honestly prefer a more natural approach, and I can tolerate Gaba and Theanine but they just aren't as effective for me as the Rx meds. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn second question--did I do the right thing by taking the ativan. I read last night on a post that 1 mg of ativan=10mg of valium. I just want to be off this stuff.
Avatar f tn m going to repost some info about insomnia that I post at times on the addiction community when someone is struggling with insomnia (usually due to detox/withdrawal). There are some helpful hints about how to improve the quality and quantity of your sleep. Keep in mind that it takes some time and consistency with adhering to a routine before results are seen. You cannot expect to see results in just a few weeks.
