0 mg increments every three days (again, at the same time you are slowly decreasing the Klonopin dose) until you are done with the Klonopin and back on the Ativan at your prior dose. To try to give you an example....If you are starting at 2 mg Klonopin, the first day, decrease your (daily) dose to 1.5 or 1.75 mg (1.75 being a smaller drop in dose) while starting 0.5 or 1.0 mg of Ativan. Then, three days later, decrease the Klonopin to 1.0-1.5 mg while increasing the Ativan to 1.0-1.

You may want to talk to a dr. about your symptoms. They seem to be panic/anxiety attacks. I know, I've been going through this for 9 yrs. See if dr. will prescribe you either Xanax, Ativan, or Klonopin. They are life savers for some people. I know it was for me. I started out with Ativan, then when I became immune to the Ativan, I tried Xanax, which is great for a quick fix. Now, I'm on Klonopin and have been for a month and a half.

Would it be ok to switch from Klonopin to Ativan safely? I hate the fact that the Klonopin has built up in my plasma, and I know the Ativan will not......please advise from experience (and I will be seeing my doc on Tues)....

If I were you, I would also discuss the Ativan/Klonopin transition with him as well. Is this your family doctor, or a psychiatrist? If not the latter, then I would advise you find one, who would be better at managing any med you would need for anxiety issues. Keep us updated, good luck.

I'm on klonopin with ativan as needed. I used to take just ativan as needed but as life got more stressful and my tolerance built up I found I was taking what I felt to be way too much ativan (2-3 mg / day). Right now I take .5 mg klonopin 2x/day and and .5 mg (or 1 mg) ativan as needed, which is once every 1-2 weeks.

I think Klonopin is similar to Ativan, which I was on for about 4 years before and I had a hard time getting off of that... I had to taper off very slowly and by reducing the dosage by 1/4 each step. I would get very agitated and extremely nervous. However, compared to getting off of hydro's, the Ativan was not nearly as bad. Anyway, I'm telling you all that just because maybe Klonopin withdrawal is similar to Ativan withdrawal.

If you are taking BOTH the Klonopin and the Ativan 3 times daily...you are in essence playing with fire. I highly doubt that your doc recommended that...unless it was a short term course of the Xanax. Even then, I would be surprised. What happened to the other med you were on? Wasn't it Phenobarbitol? I cannot recall right now...but I know they put you on something new while in the hospital.

With regard to the Ativan and Klonopin, yes, you should start taking the Ativan as your psychiatrist prescribed this evening. The idea is to ween you off of the Klonopin and the Ativan was likely prescribed in order to minimize any withdrawal symptoms you might experience from the weening process. The dose of Klonopin that you have been on is quite low, however, it is still very important that you do not abruptly stop taking it since you have been regularly taking it for more than 1 week.

I never abused them and about 4 months ago with the advice of my quack I took the ativan with the Clonazepam 2mg/daily; I know stupid...(trust me I am paying for it now) I was never on high doses of clonazepam, I have never exceeded 0.75mg, my question is, I started the Ativan weaning in Feb, I am now down to 0.80mg from 2mg, so I have dropped 1.20mg in 3 months.... Does anyone know if I can taper at a rate of 10%?, or is that too fast...

HI,I have been on 1 mg of klonopin since jan 09 and i have gained weight and have developed depression,this has happened to me on Klonopin before so my dr just today switched me to 1/2 mg ativan3 times a day and says i should ahve no withdrawal from the klon,im a bit scared that i might have withdrawal..........has anyone switched like this before with no problems or had problems with klonopin causing the issues i discussed........

Are you on a very slow taper with Ativan? It has to be slow or you won't feel good at all. Have you let the doctor know how you're feeling?

Or I dunno maybe Klonopin was masking Ativan withdrawal? Bc I stopped Ativan after 2.5 years then switched directly to Klonopin for 2 months without weaning off my last Ativan kick. I usually don't take Ativan any longer than 2-4 weeks at a time. Then I can go without it for a month or so, as long as I'm not having anxiety really bad. Hmmm... Lots to think about.

With a longer half-life, klonopin is a bit easier to wean off of but since you're on ativan now I suppose its best to stay the course using your doctor's guidance. Best of luck!

I know how hard it is to taper off these pills.... When I was 18 years old, I was blindly placed on a low dose of Klonopin, 1 mg daily,,,, I had know idea of the repercussions of these pills, I unfortunately ended up seeing a Psychiatrist(incompetent idiot) who after five years, on Klonopin placed me on Ativan with the Klonopin... The guy's a retard... So I took the Ativan with the Klonopin(I am so stupid)for about three months 2mg at bed time...

when i google i get so many different answers. do i have to wean off .25 mg nightly of klonopin? i don't like the way it makes me feel. but not taking it for a couple of nights last night i could not sleep for several hours and today very anxious. it has been 2 nights, should i just ride it out or do i really need to taper on that low dose for that low amount of time?

My question is, does ativan provide any of you relief from your bipolar disorder. When I'm depressed it just makes me more depressed and so I don't like to take it. But when I'm irritable, defensive, and impulsive, it helps control my reactions to these things and I don't flip out on people. My doctor prescribed it for my anxiety attacks, one .5mg pill at night before bed. I used to take depakote but I felt way too slow on it. Can ativan be used for Bipolar Disorder too?
