Avatar n tn He felt fantastic and he was hungry and eating for the first time in days and sleeping. He was started on Ativan for his anxiety and he was getting some rest. For the past couple of days he sounds out of it and confused and complains of feeling anxious all the time. Please help me understand some of this and what to expect. It seems the Doctors are going to do a Cardioversion in the next couple of weeks. What is this and will it help??
Avatar n tn I've been doing to research on liver failure for my brother-in-law and came across livergenex and was wondering if anyone knew if it would help a patient who is already in stage three of liver failure?
438204 tn?1254077248 She came around but is still not sure what is reality and what is fiction. They have since ruled out stroke and heart failure as she has liver failure and had a bleed in her stomach. She is already at stage 4 Kidney failure and has been for a couple of years and her health has deteriorated the past few months to the point we were expecting something big like this to happen. 5 Years ago she had heart surgery as she has irregular heart beat, metal valve fluid on her lungs.
Avatar n tn Just wanted to extend my sympathies on your mother's illness. So much might depend on whether this is acute liver failure, or chronic. Likely, she's got a tough road in front of her and will need your strength. That said, being a caregiver is draining.
Avatar m tn Our 39 year old daughter is in the hospital with liver failure--cirrhosis, fatty liver, and sludge in her spleen. She was admitted on 6/10/13. For the first five days she was incoherent, then gradually she began to be able to communicate. She still, eight days later, isn't sure what year it is or which hospital she is in. She's been told her condition is grave, but we are not certain she understands. They are trying to bring her liver function up to 10% of normal operability.
Avatar f tn Varices are the result of INCREASED PORTAL PRESSURE caused by cirrhosis - scaring of the liver. This scar tissue obstructs the blood flow through the tiny blood vessels in the liver. Because of the obstruction to blood flow and the resulting high pressure in the portal vein collateral circulation develops - the blood seeks a lower pressure gradient - in the lower esophagus, abdominal wall, stomach and rectum.
Avatar m tn My best friend who is only 50 is in end stage liver failure. She is currently on dialysis as well. I have been told by her sister that she doesn't have very long to live. The doctors said they are suprised she is not in a coma already. She goes to get her abdomin drained every two weeks. Yet sometimes she sounds so great I can't believe this is her end and all from drinking Vodka. Is there no hope?

Avatar f tn .My brother 46 was given 2 months to live due to liver failure caused by alcohol and Hep B . Scared him a bit, he was put in the hospital for 4 weeks, and got better real quick. That was March 2011. He started drinking again right after he got out of the hospital. It's hard to believe but he is still working in a bar and walking. I don't know how he does it. His stomach is very swollen, he can't eat and doesn't sleep much, but he' still going!!!
Avatar f tn But it seems the cirrhosis was caused by the hiv, not the drugs. Whatever the case, I need some answers please. We were told in February this year that her liver is no longer functioning. Her cd4 count has improved from 112 to 508 and her viral load has dropped from something like 13000 to 1500. They did a liver biopsy about 2 years ago, and that just confirmed that she had severe cirrhosis. More recently she has had a gastroscopy and mri done.
Avatar m tn The symptoms you describe are many of the signs that his liver is failing. Weight loss and lots of sleeping is frequently seen in end-stage liver disease. He may get splotches and bruise easily as things progress because of low platelets, another side effect of decompensation. 12679876 tn?1426977893 The vet advised he is in liver failure and all we can do is supportive care. I am devestated. He goes to the vet every few days to get fluids and medication. I am also giving him Milk Thistle at home. He is eating normal, and I am also feeding him baby food. Does anyone have experience with this? Am I fighting a losing battle? I’m trying everything I can to save my boy!!
Avatar f tn All sorts of tests including kidney, liver, congestive heart failure. No answers. Back to neuro. He determined this to be "rare" side effects from Requip. Took me off straightaway. I hated that because it worked so well. This as of April 28th. Was started on Sinemet. Was told this does not work as well as Requip, but was less likely to have same side effects. Said he could add darvocet if necesary. Also take ativan 1mg 3 x daily since brain surgery, and 1-2 at night for help with sleep.
410850 tn?1229178711 I suffer from an extremely high iron load in the liver tissue and it really makes me feel terrible you can read my post on hep c and high iron,I hope it is helpful. Iron stored in liver tissue with high levels inflames the liver and has many other issues including heart failure depending on how high. I am prescribed therapeutic phlebotomy's to lower the iron load it makes a world of difference.
Avatar f tn for almost a year now. In the beginning I went to a psychiatrist who assessed me of having a borderline personality disorder and emotional instability. I took many pills during the treatment such as Dianxit and Cipralex which didn't work on me, then Afeksin, Faverin, Sedoxil and Nodiril. However, I was not getting better. Around December I changed my psyschiatrist and he told me that all I had was Anxiety only.
Avatar m tn Hey~ It's nearly impossible to say what your limit of Tylenol is. You know the parameters. A lot of it depends on heredity. The thing is,liver damage is awful! The problem being that we don't know how sick we are until we're in the later stages of liver disease. You need to get your intake down. I don't think Tramadol is the way to do it,though. That comes with it's own set of problems.
Avatar n tn Along with an auto immune condition (not yet specified), anemai, and liver disease. I spent 4 months in Hospice. I was due to die. Somehow I came out of it. So I the bright side...
1348686 tn?1310654243 It inhibits Cytochrome P-450, which is a liver enzyme that metabolizes certain drugs. Ativan is metabolized via Glucuronidation and is conjugated (metabolized via kidneys). So no interaction there. Ativan is the cleanest Benzodiazepine, which is why the ER favors it. Additionally, it is short-acting and has no active metabolites like Valium. Be advised the Ativan isn't approved for long-term use.
Avatar f tn The GI specialist said that he was in end stage liver failure due to alcoholic cirrhosis. She also said that due to his other physical ailments, he wasn’t going to be a candidate for transplant. She said he needed caregivers and there wasn’t really much else they could do but manage symptoms. She scheduled a parasyntesis and they drained 11 liters. Less than two weeks later, he was swollen again. While he was in the rehab place, my family and I cleaned his house.
Avatar n tn Ativan is actually used in treatment of neuroleptic malignant syndrome, so it should not be problematic, but Reglan is. Reye syndrome is not likely, I've checked again. Read these article, it shows causes, risk factors, culprit drugs, laboratory findings, including elevated liver enzymes: http://www.emedicine.com/Med/topic2614.
Avatar n tn If there is occlusion of the common bile duct, then this will also cause fever with chills. Cirrhosis of liver too presents with chills and fever. Liver failure in itself is tough for the body to handle and on and off there are chills and a mild rise of temperature as the body tries to fight for survival. It is a strain on the body. A new infection causing fever and chills would normally raise the temperature to much higher levels.
Avatar n tn "In my son's case, the diuretices were no longer working is there something else that could have been done to save his life?" I'm sorry but there is no way for me to know the answer to your question. Was your son awaiting tp ? Paracentisis is an option that is commonly used to control ascites in those who are resistant to diuretics. Even so, tapping carries some risks.
Avatar f tn how do you get the ammonia count down in liver disease? This discussion is related to Re: Ammonia level.
