1348686 tn?1310654243 The doctor prescribed me Ativan. He gave me one before I left and now I am really sleepy, is this normal? I am hoping that this is a medication that I only have to take if I am feeling really anxious and not on a daily basis....Can anyone answer that for me? I know with some meds you shouldn't drink fruit juices well I had some punch before going to the er that contained orange juice and I forgot to tell the dr so I hope that this is ok....Any guidance would be greatly appreciated....

Avatar n tn We are at Mayo in Rochester, MN tonight and docs are concentrating on the liver due to increased numbers as high as 900 ALT and 400+ AST. High liver levels at this point increased after she was prescribed Reglan (sp.) and the attacks worsened and blood pressure increased to 200/100 until given Ativan. Currently, our doctor mentioned a rare liver disease may be possible, but I honestly couldn't remember the name of it.
422220 tn?1256764529 I never took Paxil, but I take Ativan for anxiety. It really works well and you can take it as needed (or not) unlike the antidepressants where you have to build up to a theraputic level and then stay on the drug.
527657 tn?1214051850 I was perscirbed two ativan for sleep and I still cannot sleep. I called my pharmacist and asked if i could take an over the counter sleeping aid with the ativan and she said yes. So about a week ago i started taking tylenol pm right before sleep. Within i would say ten min i am sleeping and i sleep through the night execpt for going to the rest room. Does anyone else to this?
941046 tn?1250638829 My primary doctor refused to give me anymore pain medication so I went to another doctor. He gave me vicodin and a referral to another GI specializing in liver and pancreas disorders. This doctor is so busy I can't get in for a consult till mid August and the vicodin isn't working anymore. My new doctor says he is reluctant to give me anything stronger because he doesn't want me to build up a tolerance to narcotics.
Avatar f tn If they are prescribing it to me then it must not be a problem for the liver. It is highly addictive and they told me they are going to get me off of it. I only take 25 mg a day. I split the pill and take a piece mid-morning and take the other half in the early evening. It takes the edge off. Don't be scared.
Avatar m tn Surely, in my book, benzodiazepines (like Ativan) should be for occasional use and a more proper long term treatment should be antidepressants and counseling.
881463 tn?1245345649 My chest pain has been improving the past 24 hours and the Ativan with-drawl symptoms are finally subsiding (thank god). Ativan is very addictive and it doesn't take long to be on it to get really bad side effects if you quit, especially cold turkey. The withdrawl made my anxiety go way up and I just couldnt stop crying and the metallic taste in my mouth which is also fading was awful and I had a really bad headache.
Avatar f tn Ativan, Ativan oh the wonders of ativan, coulndt have made it through tx without it, and have preached about it almost the whole 48 weks i was on tx , it took the nerves from the riba and let my mind slow down and rest and also gave me more sleep than any sleep drug, it got me through the 48 weeks with my own 5 kids as well as teaching in 2 different preschools 30 hours a week it really helped keep me sort of mellow and that was a Blessing to me and my family!!!!!
Avatar f tn As far as withdrawals go it depends on how long you have been abusing and how much so if you can provide that information we will have more to work with .. Good luck ..
Avatar f tn 6 mg of clonazepam is the same strength has 12 mg ATIVAN its twice the strength , he has left you with the grand total of 1and a half mg clonazepam instead of the 6mg you were taking, no wonder your ill. I take 6mg of Ativan a day and that's a lot , your 6mg clonazepam was 12mg ATIVAN the most scripted in ENGLAND is 10 mg or the same has 50mg of Valium .
Avatar n tn if your friend is willing to do whatever is necessary to stop and stay stopped, there is a solution. mixing ativan and alcohol can be dangerous on two fronts. first, in combination, they can cause the respiratory centers of the brain to shut down---a lot of people die like this. second, both of these are cns depressants that when removed can induce life-threatening complications from withdrawal. a medical detoxification may be needed to withdraw safely.
Avatar n tn t hold anything down if you hear anything about it please let me know I took a blood test and it will come back Monday to make sure my liver and everything is OK so if it comes back OK then at least we know that
Avatar f tn I took my .5 mg ativan and one benadryl for stuffy nose. Now wide awake and have to be up to work in 2 hours. Has this ever happened to anyone?? I also take my 12.5 zoloft in morning will this make me more jittery??
Avatar m tn I think we've suggested you go through a do-over of your Ativan cessation, so that's where we stand. If you don't want to do that, some of your problems are probably digestive, even if they seem new, because you're very stressed and so is your system. Just because it's from medication doesn't mean you can't at least deal with some of the side effects you've been left with.
1001582 tn?1272081863 I would suggest you go get TSH, Free T3, Free T4 and a liver function test done. Often once the liver is damaged from alcohol the body has trouble making use of the T4 our thyroids produce and the liver is part of the process in converting it into usable T3 for you to function normally. Your symptoms may or may not be all related to thyroid issues, but I would strongly suggest getting those tests done and find out from your doctor.
Avatar f tn I started 5 mg Celexa 5 days ago and the doctor gave me .5 mg Ativan for just in case. My question is how long until the Celexa starts working? If I use the Ativan too often will it effect how the Celexa works? How hard are these to come off of?
Avatar f tn While medications like ativan do help symptoms of RLS, ativan is addictive and tolerance can develop to it, so that higher doses are needed for the same effect. It might be advisable for you to try to find other medications for your anxiety and your insomnia; several of the anti-anxiety and insomnia medications do make RLS worse, but others do not. Your episodes of waking up with several uncomfortable symptoms may be panic attacks, but there are several other possibilities.
Avatar m tn Okay, well how are you directed to take them both? Is one as needed, both as needed, and if so, how do you know when to take which? Do you take one of them regularly? It's pretty uncommon to be prescribed two short-acting benzos concurrently. The equivalency between the two meds isn't an exact science, but per equivalency charts, approximately 0.5mg of Xanax equals 1mg of Ativan, so the Xanax is roughly twice as potent, mg to mg. Again, not an exact science.
Avatar m tn What symptoms of a hangover are you talking about? If you're speaking of anxiety, that's most likely not a hangover, but rather the typical after effects of alcohol consumption. Taking Ativan for hangover symptoms would technically considered abuse of your prescription, since that isn't what it's prescribed for, and all around a bad idea.
Avatar f tn I think the headache was from something else and not the ativan. Woke up this morning with no headache and took .25mg of ativan and no headache. We'll see what happens later today.... I'm a bit sedated right now on just .25mg. too.
1181804 tn?1333402805 OK. I struggled with my opiate addiction so much that I never fully realized how physically addicting I was becoming to ativan too. The doctor who helped me wean off the percocets by putting me on suboxone and then slowly wean me off those over a one year period told me that I can't be on ativan while on suboxone. Well, my Primary Care had put me on the ativan (.5 / 2 X a day- but I took more when I "needed" it.......
Avatar n tn There are no drug interactions with Ativan and bisoprolol. However, the Ativan may cause some low blood pressure. I am curious… why are you taking the bisoprolol if you have low blood pressure and a low heart rate… seeing as it can worsen both of those??
Avatar f tn In addition to depression, I struggle with anxiety and take 1 mg Ativan as needed, up to 3x/day if needed. The Ativan helps with the anxiety but I've noticed if I have to take it for a few days in a row it really seems to affect my mood, in that I often feel even more depressed than I did before taking it. I've been on Klonopin before and all that did was make me fall asleep (even on a very low dose), and at least with Ativan I feel as though I can function without feeling so tired.
Avatar f tn And the morning is the worst. I just started 5 mg celexa 4 weeks ago and my doctor wanted me to increase my ativan to help with anxiety. It seems like whenever I take too much, I feel sick and loopy. And, it is not that effective for me with dleep. It is more effective during the day to relieve symptoms. I am extremely med sensitive. Does anyone have any experiences with ativan?
Avatar n tn Nobody can predict how any med will work for you -- it's trial and error, unfortunately. What I think your psychiatrist -- and I hope you are using a psychiatrist, not a regular doc -- is getting at is Zoloft, if it works, is a long-term solution in two ways: it works all the time, whereas Ativan is very short acting, and there's a limit to how high a dose and how long one should take Ativan.
