Common Questions and Answers about Ativan and flying

Avatar m tn Ativan has worked well for me in the past when flying. The thought of flying makes me panic but if I take .5 mg of Ativan about an hour before the flight I am okay. Good luck next Friday.
1238554 tn?1339420116 if i was to fly i know i would take 2-3 lol i hate flying and only do if its a half to. but since you like it and you will have a friend and a ativan on the side am sure you will be just fine. enjoy your trip and let us know when you land how it went.
Avatar f tn I am taking a four flight to LAX in a couple of weeks and have had severe anxiety over this for weeks. Can someone tell me if Ativan is more effective than Xanax?
Avatar m tn I have been taking lorazepam for quite some time and would recommend 0.5 mg approximately two hours before take-off. My experience has shown that it takes a couple of hours for this drug to kick in. Since lorazepam/Ativan is slower-acting than some of the other anti-anxiety drugs (such as Xanax), many docs will opt for it as they believe it has a lesser chance of becoming habit-forming.
Avatar n tn So I went to the vitamin store and got guava tea for anxiety and methalyn? tablets for sleep. I do not take ativan just had them leftover from fear of flying a couple of years ago. When someone mentioned the word w/d again I stopped the ativan. These last five days have been some of the hardest and longest days of my entire life. I have my support group meeting tomorrow night at church and that seems to help. The ambien works great!
Avatar m tn We will be going on a cruise which involves flying south and being in a small room on a boat for a week (my first cruise). It takes some courage for me to fly but I do it, just never done it feeling sick and having anxiety. I hope to feel better in the next couple days but I was wondering if anyone had advice to reduce anxiety when flying or if on a cruise how best to deal with anxiety if it presents itself ?
Avatar n tn s getting closer to flying it gets worse. He feels tension and cramping of his stomach and we are not sure what to do. He doesn't want to not go because they are not refundable tickets but he is seriously scared of flying. I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any advice? I want to help him I just do not know how!
Avatar f tn So due to this bad experience I am terrified of flying and am already nervous about it. I want to take start taking something the day before I fly and then the whole day for the journey which will be 7 hrs. I have tried xanax 0.5 mg at home just to see how I will feel. It didn't do anything for me, just felt a bit relaxed. Can someone please suggest what I should ask the doc to give me. I want to take something that will stop me from panicking before boarding and last till we land.
Avatar f tn Thank You so much for your post! Maybe this is a side effect, I will give it a little time and see how it goes. It is a feeling like you said, that is just there and I can't make it go away, other than with an Ativan, and I don't like to do that all of the time. I will talk with my Dr if these symptoms continue! Thanks again!
Avatar n tn Without going into detail I am flying o.s in a weeks time and terrified of the whole experience not just the flight. I have been prescribed 250mcg xanax. Dr has said to take up to 3 as initial dose to get on the plane and then 1 thereafter as needed. Am i able to relieve symptoms quickly and for how long. If I don't need it after the first day is it ok not to take or do I have to continue daily to get relief.
739988 tn?1386672969 t been on a plane since the events in 2001 and was flying to Spain right after the incidents there. I got on the plane and saw the air marshalls and was frankly terrified. And to summarize it, both flights back and forth, it was one of the nicest and most uneventful plane rides I ever had. I'd say like myself the more you worry about what can go wrong the more anxiety you'll get. The more you plan for standard events the less you will.
Avatar f tn I took my .5 mg ativan and one benadryl for stuffy nose. Now wide awake and have to be up to work in 2 hours. Has this ever happened to anyone?? I also take my 12.5 zoloft in morning will this make me more jittery??
Avatar f tn I started 5 mg Celexa 5 days ago and the doctor gave me .5 mg Ativan for just in case. My question is how long until the Celexa starts working? If I use the Ativan too often will it effect how the Celexa works? How hard are these to come off of?
Avatar m tn Okay, well how are you directed to take them both? Is one as needed, both as needed, and if so, how do you know when to take which? Do you take one of them regularly? It's pretty uncommon to be prescribed two short-acting benzos concurrently. The equivalency between the two meds isn't an exact science, but per equivalency charts, approximately 0.5mg of Xanax equals 1mg of Ativan, so the Xanax is roughly twice as potent, mg to mg. Again, not an exact science.
Avatar m tn What symptoms of a hangover are you talking about? If you're speaking of anxiety, that's most likely not a hangover, but rather the typical after effects of alcohol consumption. Taking Ativan for hangover symptoms would technically considered abuse of your prescription, since that isn't what it's prescribed for, and all around a bad idea.
Avatar f tn I think the headache was from something else and not the ativan. Woke up this morning with no headache and took .25mg of ativan and no headache. We'll see what happens later today.... I'm a bit sedated right now on just .25mg. too.
1181804 tn?1333402805 OK. I struggled with my opiate addiction so much that I never fully realized how physically addicting I was becoming to ativan too. The doctor who helped me wean off the percocets by putting me on suboxone and then slowly wean me off those over a one year period told me that I can't be on ativan while on suboxone. Well, my Primary Care had put me on the ativan (.5 / 2 X a day- but I took more when I "needed" it.......
Avatar n tn There are no drug interactions with Ativan and bisoprolol. However, the Ativan may cause some low blood pressure. I am curious… why are you taking the bisoprolol if you have low blood pressure and a low heart rate… seeing as it can worsen both of those??
Avatar f tn In addition to depression, I struggle with anxiety and take 1 mg Ativan as needed, up to 3x/day if needed. The Ativan helps with the anxiety but I've noticed if I have to take it for a few days in a row it really seems to affect my mood, in that I often feel even more depressed than I did before taking it. I've been on Klonopin before and all that did was make me fall asleep (even on a very low dose), and at least with Ativan I feel as though I can function without feeling so tired.
Avatar f tn And the morning is the worst. I just started 5 mg celexa 4 weeks ago and my doctor wanted me to increase my ativan to help with anxiety. It seems like whenever I take too much, I feel sick and loopy. And, it is not that effective for me with dleep. It is more effective during the day to relieve symptoms. I am extremely med sensitive. Does anyone have any experiences with ativan?
Avatar n tn Nobody can predict how any med will work for you -- it's trial and error, unfortunately. What I think your psychiatrist -- and I hope you are using a psychiatrist, not a regular doc -- is getting at is Zoloft, if it works, is a long-term solution in two ways: it works all the time, whereas Ativan is very short acting, and there's a limit to how high a dose and how long one should take Ativan.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed .50 ativan(lorazapam) every 8 hours as needed for anxiety since the week of Thanksgiving. They made me too groggy so the Dr said I could cut them in half. I began taking .25 every 4 hours. My anxiety at the time was out of the blue and out of control. Attacks sometimes lasting less than an hour and sometimes all day. I was getting some relief for about 2 or 3 weeks.
1714202 tn?1352672419 Hey, so my birthday is coming up and a big group of us is going to the casino and I know I'll end up drinking. Does anyone know the interactions with alcohol, lamictal, abilify, and ativan? If they're too serious I'll just tell my boyfriend not to let me drink. Any help would be great!
Avatar f tn When I first started suffering from anxiety, I was prescribed Ativan and it nearly ruined my life. I became completely numb, followed by episodes of severe anxiety. After one month, when I realized that the Ativan was making me sicker, I went of immediately. I suffered some withdrawal symptoms and later learned that going "cold turkey" was not a good idea. I began to get better, despite the withdrawal, but a few months later I had some very stressful experiences.
Avatar n tn I am also going to keep following my primary doctors prescription for Ativan and keep it at 1.5mg a day and hopefully with therapy I can begin to get off it. I'm also going to try the tea tonight but drink it before I take my Ativan and Valium. If I feel it has good results I will try to stop the Valium at night and just stick with Ativan. Thanks again for your.
Avatar n tn so where u on 4mg a day of ativan and now u swtiched to clonazepam? if so i think the taper/addition of klonopin/lclonazepam has to be done miticulously. ask RCA/Ryan about this. he as schedules for things like this and for tapering successfully. i know valium is used alot to get people off of clonazepam along with a taper schedule. i'm pretty sure the klonopin isn't causing the shakiness and sweating. it's either withdrawls from the ativan or your underlying anxiety returning.
