Ativan and baclofen

Common Questions and Answers about Ativan and baclofen

Avatar m tn Hi. Thank you. Was on librium for 6 weeks for anxiety/insomnia. Dr said it was least potent/safest benzo. Well I got withdrawals. So he gave me a 14 day taper (so 2 months in total on librium). Anyway I've had minor withdrawals for 6 weeks and was getting better. Er doc gave ativan and have been scared he set me back. But I think it's more fear than anything. I have the ten ativan if things really flare up. Pharmacist even said ten ativan will not set me back. Thank you so much.
Avatar f tn A few months back I was having problems walking with tremors etc. the doctors put me on baclofan and ativan. My spasms have almost dimished and I feel so much better. Even a lot the the classic POTS symptoms have been reduced. HR still high but toprol is helping. But why does the baclofe/ativan help so much? Any ideas? The only problem is that I have gained 10 lbs in 1 month on these new meds. I have weighed the same for 20 years so this is disheartening.
Avatar f tn I have essential tremors and I have been taking Klonopin for a very long time along with Baclofen (for the soreness in my neck muscles). I take 2mg 2x a day of Klonopin and 20mg 2x a day of Baclofen. I also take Prozac 40mg every night. My doctor has been talking about putting me on beta-blockers for my tremors, but he won't do so until I can get my asthma under control (he prescribed Dulera inhaler 2x a day & I also have an Albuterol inhaler).
17409734 tn?1456432991 suggested i try Ativan or Diazepam before bed and also a muscle relaxer called Baclofen for spasms during the day (which i had been on in 2013) it did not work, but he insists on trying it over the Soma 350mg i had been on before the surgery.... any input ,suggestions and or expierences as to what worked for you would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn Looking for nybody who has tried some or all of these to help the w/d symptoms. Thinking of adding low dose ativan or xanax to the mix and rotating them to help me through the withdrawals. Anyone have any input?
Avatar f tn First and foemost, you must discuss any change in meds with your doctor. Keeping that in mind, here's what I think. The ativan is giving you headaches because it is fast acting and short lived in the system, so tends to create a sort of 'roller coaster' effect if not taken often enough. Your body is different now that you are a mother. That changes your brain chemistry in ways that are naturally geared to 'mother' your baby. I think all of this is causing your headaches.
983008 tn?1329925830 I've just started on Baclofen to (hopefully) ease the stiffness in my legs and my wobbly left foot, that was 10 days ago, 5mg x 3 per day and I'm struggling with it. I'm really tired to the point I have to lie down, feel woosy and my tongue seems stuck to the roof of my mouth, my arms feel like heavy jelly and my shins ache. I couldn't function at work so I stopped the morning one and take the other 2 later on when I'm home.
1760800 tn?1406753451 I am on the max dosage of Baclofen and am looking into alternatives. Has anyone had Botox as a treatment? How are you all that also suffer from this handling it? Help!
Avatar n tn Insist on some antispasmodic meds for her or an increase or additional one if she already is on one. There are several types, like baclofen, muscle relaxants like Flexiril, or meds like Ativan or clonazepam.. Jen is totally correct that the itching is a "paresthesia." This is an erroneous message being sent to the brain. It has nothing to do with the state of her skin. That is why the creams and anti-itch meds are ineffective. Her neurologist should know this!
Avatar f tn Hi Deb.. glad you like the Neuro..and hope you feel better with the meds.. I haven't tried either of them so can't give any opinion..
1329025 tn?1278334460 OK I have found out Baclofen and I don't get along. I started out after only 2 doses, 5mg at bed time two nights in a row and by the next morning I was having breathing difficultiefs. Well I continued to take it not knowing that was the problem. My neuro said after a couple days I could also take one in the Morn. I did and breathing got worse. Went to pcp and he did the hand held breathing test and gave me asthma meds. Continued the Baclofen only to have breathing worse.
8248462 tn?1406996016 About April I started feeling a tightening around my diaphragm. I figured it was the hug and took the Baclofen. It helped a bit. I had slight pain and felt at times like I could not breathe It lasted about a week. It then went away. Two weeks now it has been back and worst this time. My diaphragm area and a bit below it feels tight and like there is a weight in there so much so I have to be lying down a lot as it's uncomfortable to stand.
1468406 tn?1286489142 They would be treated with different meds, i.e., something like baclofen for spasms and something like lyrica for parathesia. Did you tell your neuro?
233622 tn?1279334905 I take Klonopin at night for restless leg syndrome and I take Baclofen at night for spasms. My doctor has me on 1 1/2 mgs. of Klonopin and 30 mgs of Baclofen. Since I use Klonopin for RLS which only happens in the evening, I only take it at night. I couldn't take it in the morning, because it would make me too tired.
338416 tn?1420045702 When I was taking 6 baclofen a day, I had less pain overall, but I had just as many spasms as I do now. In fact, I was taking 6 baclofen, and two zanaflex a day. Sometimes I'd forget to take the baclofen, because the zanaflex worked so well. Now I'm down to 3 baclofen a day, and if I have a spasm, I try to control it with Flexaril. It's not as effective as Zanaflex, but for the most part, I'm pretty comfortable.
1807779 tn?1333840302 I started on 10mg 4 times daily and then switched to 20mg 3xs daily. There really wasn't a titration involved for me, but going off it takes some slow tapering down. I don't think it takes very long to get into your system and make a difference, but I'm just guessing at that and maybe someone else has a more accurate answer. I know it only lasts in the system for 4-6 hours and that's why most people take several doses a day.
1168718 tn?1464983535 Baclofen is rapidly absorbed, so some doctors use it as an "as needed" (PRN) medication. It is related to Gabapentin, and can (not always) cause withdrawal syndrome. When taken "as needed," withdrawal syndrome would be rare. I started it as "as needed at bedtime." I now take 20mg 3 times a day + 10 mg Norflex twice a day + 10 mg Valium at bedtime to manage the spacticity. http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar f tn Hi I am the same as Shell and Mick. I worked up to 40 mg a day and tired feeling subsided and it helps with the tightness and spasms greatly! Especially since I sit at a desk for my job - after an hour the pains were horrible. Now it is so much easier! Let us know how you do!
1168718 tn?1464983535 Well, nothing seems to be working there anyways, so, thought I would try it and try and stop some of the spasms I get in my legs mostly when I try to relax. Has anyone else had that, when you try and relax, everything starts shaking and jumping around, and it feels like the energizer r bunny pumping up; your legs??? This has been a tough month for me, and I know that alot of you are having the same depression troubles, hoping that this is seeing brighter days ahead.
1168718 tn?1464983535 thanks guys, I think I will hold off on the Baclofen, and stick my Flexeril as it does seem to help, though not entirely, but it doesn't have the side effects for me ..... Hope you are all having a bright, sunny day..
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever been prescribed Baclofen for migraines and facial neuralgia?
Avatar m tn Is baclofen addictive. Ive been taking it for back pain, and itching on the inside.
Avatar f tn my doctor is trying a new muscle relaxer called baclofen, i was taking robaxin but it made me too tired, is this new one going to make me really tired too? i am really reluctant to take it.
Avatar f tn After a few years on Flexeril I was recently switched to Baclofen. It seems like Bacofen is the go-to drug for MS related spasicity. The wanted me to start out on 1/2 does for 7 days and go to the full dose after that. I made it three days on the 1/2 dose and couldn't take it anymore. Since it takes a while to get to therapeutic levels I was kept awake all night with TERRIBLE spasms, worse than usual, I had muscle weakness and I was puking my brains out.
Avatar f tn Lol the thing I found in my time of need is Jesus. I prayed and prayed and read about him. It really made a difference. That and my car. I drive when I'm anxious. No where in particular but it made me feel a lil better, like I had a purpose.
Avatar f tn Hi there. I can understand your plight well. You are right, certain medications particularly muscle relaxants and antichlinergics, interfere with the results of EMG like baclofen and flexeril or cyclobenzaprine that you are taking. It would be prudent to apprise your neurologist of all the medications you are on, so that the EMG results are appreciated in that light. Muscle biopsy can be taken up after an EMG. Consult your neurologist for his preferences and expertise. Take care.
