Avatar n tn hi again. ya, for alcohol detoxification a benzodiazepine such as valium, ativan or librium is often given in a tapering dose.
Avatar n tn I know what you're looking for and I personally don't feel comfortable giving any of this info on a public forum... The doctor you saw sounds like a wimp! He could tell you how to do this but he sounds irresponsible! He gives you Ativan and then doesn't tell you how to take it! GEEZ! Firstly, I've never heard the term "taper off alcohol".
640716 tn?1223152206 My mother has had a history of depression, anxiety and post traumatic stress disorder. I don't think she's ever truly been "treated" for this things, except for being prescribed meds. In the past few months, she's been out of work and I've been around more often and witness her in a stupor state some days, a really bad state. I started monitoring her consumption of these pills and she'll take twice or three times the recommended dosage.
1001582 tn?1272081863 when i turned 23 i began having terrible issues with anxiety attacks that became debilitating for some time. i feared the worst but through experience and medication (ativan) i have come to find that i will definately live through each attack. as i began to gain control of my anxiety i came to realize that there were many other symptoms that were very real in a physical sense.
Avatar m tn Ativan is bad news for alcoholics,it is habit forming and one has to wean off it when its taken or a nasty withdrawal will set in!For cravings I would suggest talking to your doctor @ giving Campral a try.I tried on my own to cut down...control....switch seats on the Titanic namely stopping drinking and doing marijuana maintenance....and a host of other things which always led me back to the drink! So in 1983 i went to a 25 day inpatient program, did AA and NA,RR,SOS.....
Avatar f tn 2009)....I was well on my way there when he died and when he died, he and I had not spoken in 10 years, but up to his death, I was drinking 4 beers a day during the week and god knows how much on the weekends, (I was a binge drinker with my husband) anyhoooooo.....MY story ain't important here...mixing booze and drugs is like playing Russian Roullette...really. My brother simply went to bed and didn't wake up. End of story. END OF LIFE.
Avatar m tn Hi. Thank you. Was on librium for 6 weeks for anxiety/insomnia. Dr said it was least potent/safest benzo. Well I got withdrawals. So he gave me a 14 day taper (so 2 months in total on librium). Anyway I've had minor withdrawals for 6 weeks and was getting better. Er doc gave ativan and have been scared he set me back. But I think it's more fear than anything. I have the ten ativan if things really flare up. Pharmacist even said ten ativan will not set me back. Thank you so much.
Avatar f tn What I can tell by what you all say, is that Klonopin is easier to come off of than Ativan? I have tried in the past two years or so, to taper off Ativan every now and then, and I have gotten down to 2.5 mgs/day but have never made it past that point. It is very frustrating. I get some panic, but mostly high anxiety.....like my brain is saying NO Don't do this, you NEED drugs to function! So I end up back on my normal dose. But I am so tired of drugs.
Avatar n tn I feel jittery, paranoid, heart palpitations, nausea, and I a FREEZING cold. I do have a perscription for Ativan and started taking1/2 pil in the Am and 1/2 in the evening. I am afraid of seizures??? Any thoughts??? Is cold turkey the way for someone who has been drinking so much for so long???
Avatar f tn somehow, in what seems like a completely bizarre and random way, i've become an alcoholic. i'm 30. and a grad student. in undergrad, and through most of my 20s, i was just a social drinker; nothing more. never an issue. i smoked, and quit. but, i suppose, in general, i've always had problems with moderation (can't have a few diet cokes, must have a dozen, or not a bowl of oatmeal, but 5). about, hmmm, 4 years ago i developed an eating disorder.
Avatar n tn i am the child of an alchoholic and i feel worse then if i were drinking. my step mother is very ill , and my father the alcholic is the care taker. he has use guilt to motivate me and make me feel quilty about every thing in there life. I feel like iam going to go crazy. i cant seem to tell him off. he says terrible things about me and my children when he is drunk, the denies it. lies about it and any thing else possible. I cant stand it anymore. 38 year old mother of 2 teens .
Avatar f tn If you continue to drink the hard stuff vodka and whiskey, you will ruin your kidneys and can end up in the hospital with dialysis!! They tell me it is a slow and painful process. If you can't pee, it sits inside you and stagnates and you can get a very bad infection from it. On the other hand, some beer is good for the kidneys. You must, however, drink water!!!
Avatar n tn And on the other side of the coin, our body and brain will change over time, as we continue to abuse alcohol. Once we do this for a long enough period of time, the changes are permanent. And as Narla says, we can't drink again or limit ourselves.
Avatar m tn The main problem I have is that when I drink (maybe once a month), I get drunk very quickly and make wrong choices about drugs like cocaine, which are really having negative effects on my life. When I am sober, I never think of doing drugs. I find it very hard to drink in moderation. Is this what is referred to as alcoholism? Is alcohol my problem? I thought that if I stopped alcohol, then I would never do drugs. But no matter what, every few months, I fail and am back to square one.
Avatar n tn Does alcohol detoxification treatment really treats the physical effects of prolonged use of alcohol. Can an alcoholic be treated without getting himself admitted in India and for how long generally the treatment continues. My husband is a heavy drinker and its almost 17 years since he has been drinking regularly and the result is he is unable to avoid a single day as his legs start paining. His has a busy schedule . Kindly advise . My email id is ***@****.
Avatar n tn how do I help my husband who is an alcoholic and now starting to drink liquor when he is out of beer. This is now causing problems for us because he is becoming a sloppy drunk and its all too much for me.
Avatar n tn I am going through alcohol withdrawals right now and my poop is watery and green. What is causing that?
Avatar n tn hi. get her to a detox or even an er. i've experienced about everything withdrawal has to offer, and aside from the medical risk, if it gets too unpleasant she might drink more for relief like i did a few times trying to do it myself. she needs to be somewhere that can provide medication and monitor things like vital signs. there is nothing non-prescription that will help the acute symptoms. please treat this as the potentially life-threatening condition that it is.
1485372 tn?1359545131 U can type this into Google and get the symptoms according to the DSM-IV!
Avatar m tn my friend is an alcohlic and she's having many health issues such as peeling of the hands and feet, hair loss, no apetite, weight loss, anxiety, depression, dimentia, etc... Are these signs of her body shutting down? She's been to several rehabs and has been in the hospital for alcohol poisioning.
Avatar m tn i am not doing well - it seems i have lost alot of my will - i cant take not being home and with my kids - i have lost so much of myself and dignity - i hate this isolation - my ex is thriving and i want her to be well, but she is doing it off my back and i dont say anything to the kids and pretend i am "fine" because i dont want to upset them or feel bad for me.
449540 tn?1205451909 your liver is what stores glucose for your brain and muscles..when it is impaired guess what..and over time it just gets worse..a synapses problem..along with weakness...anxiety ...fatigue...dizzyness..so if you have anxiety from drinking after you quit you can expect symptoms for quite some time while going through withdrawals..good luck...
Avatar f tn My son who was 21 years old and suffered alcoholism and alcohol abuse completed sucide while in an alcohol induced blackout. I know if he had not been drinking it would have never happened. How common is this. How can alcohol change someone to the violent rage that my son suffered at the time he took his life? He had been in counceling since the age of 14.
Avatar n tn Alcoholism can be a form of self medication for bipolar disorder and other psychiatric disabilities and it can worsen them as well. The best thing to do is speak to a psychiatrist and then they can see what to do from there but as well a dual recovery group is essential as to have stability, stopping drinking alcohol is crucial. As well some issues you are explaining would be worthwhile to discuss with a talk therapist in addition to a psychiatrist.
Avatar f tn I took my .5 mg ativan and one benadryl for stuffy nose. Now wide awake and have to be up to work in 2 hours. Has this ever happened to anyone?? I also take my 12.5 zoloft in morning will this make me more jittery??
