My husband is a non-responder for the treatment he had, which was Pagasys and Riboflavin. He is looking for new treatment. He has genotype 1. Anyone with info? We live close to Sacramento.

He went to his doctor and was diagnosed with gout. Since then, he only had one gout-like attack (not painful at all) on the toe next to his big one, and only lasted a couple of hours. He isn't complaining about pain or anything, thankfully.. but I am still worried about gout in general.

Hi all I am 50 (will b 51 in few months), with high bp managed with Atacand plus and last visit my doc said im perimenopausal. At the end of last year my cycle missed then it came on 18th Feb and lasted till 22nd March. It then returned couple days ago and I've spent the day with horrible cramps and each evening around 6pm it's as it a tap has been turned on and I bleed profusely. I am going to my doctor first thing Monday but just wondered if anyone else has had this experience?

I recently finished 12 weeks of Sovaldi and Olysio where I cleared and relapsed after I finished.I take allopurinol every day for my gout and did so during treatment.It has no negative effect on you during treatment.Gout can lead to serious problems if not treated.You really should get some blood work to see your uric acid levels.A rheumatologist is the one who treats people for gout but Im sure your GP or hepatologist will write up the bloodwork for you.

Hello , I am 43 year old and have high blood pressure i regularly take high BP medicines metropolol and Atacand 16 plus. I have taken all test and my heart seem ok and vessels are clear but my left chest pain just above the left breast does not go away. pain sometimes extend to left arm. also i have a left leg slight partial tightness feeling, Shortness of breath, Chest heaviness, fatigued, sleepy and irritable, Excessive daytime drowsiness, . Doctor says nothing is wrong!

There are articles which link uric acid levels (high uric acid is associated with Gout) with HCV and interferon but I don't think that gout is a side effect of HCV or treatment. I am suffering from acute gout right now and have found many connections with hypothyroid and gout and a fair amount on its (hypo) connection to tooth decay and gum disease! Does anybody have any knowledge of these relationships? How about the tale of Lugol's Iodine on the bottom of your feet at night? Do you have to be on meds to manage hypothyroid or is iodine replacement enough?

I had a CT Angiogram done for any Aortic disection or Aortic aneurysm, all came back clear, my aorta and all related vessels were within normal range. My cardiologist put me on Atacand as my blood pressure tended to be around 130/70, he advised me while my blood pressure wasnt excessively high, that taking Atacand would lower it a little and make my heart beat with greater efficiency.

I have exactly this problem. A very fit and healthy 51 year old right hand that only a week ago had a comment about my firm handshake. Now I can't shake hands, the knuckle at the top of my middle finger is sore and swollen making it difficult to both lay my hand flat or make a fist. There was no impact injury that I can think of and xrays showed nothing. I've never had gout and the only other joint issue I have is a bad knee. Any clues?

Hi ggreg and thank you for the link. I looked it up and yes, it does sound like Gout with the exception of the inflammation. I am currently undergoing tests, to do with my kidneys, as they think there may be some damage from the Diomax I was taking for two years for IIH. It does all seems to link up together,unfortunately. mandukasan(not for pregnant women) - kneel down(with feet pointing inwards,and sit on the ankles/heels, Vajrasan position), breathe in and breathe out completely and hold your breath, pull the stomach in, press both your hands on stomach, bend forward as much as possible keeping the head straight, hold for 5 to 15 seconds and come back up while breathing in.Do this asan 3 times daily before meals, to stimulate the kidney and pancreas.

High cell turnover rate after treatment caused partly by anemia and other factors contribute to higher uric acid and post treatment gout flairs. I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian and do the cherry juice, apple cider vinegar with mothers and other home remedies and I don't know if they work but they are good for you anyway.

I have been on Allopurinol and had two rounds of steroids and within three days of being off the steroids my gout returns. I don't drink, or eat a much meat and have increased my vitamin C to 1500 mg a day, is there anything else I can do?

Hello, In March I started a project using a roto-tiller, the vibration and strain on my hands was intense, my fingers ached for days, I was also taking abour 64 grms. of whey protein a day (weight /workouts, lost 16 lbs), I didn't put the two together but The pain in my hands (fingers got worse and now I'm having trigger fingers, pain, and some blistering on the skin of my knuckles..I'm also having slight pain in my feet..

Gout symptoms are usually a sore big toe joint (or knee occasionally) which gets red suddenly overnight without warning and becomes excruciatingly painful. So painful that even the weight of a bedsheet is agony! You can't put a sock on, let alone a shoe. Treatment can be prescribed medication such as colchicine but be warned; the side affects can be horrific! The only treatment that works for me when i get it occasionally is an into inflammatory injection right into the joint.

If I start it back up today do you think it will help with the gout pain and inflammation? I am taking Ibuprophen and soaking in epsom salts/hot water.

It is important that you reduce your red meat and alcohol intake and watch your fats. These can help and you may need to see your doctor. There is a drug that helps to break up the crystals. Good luck and hope you get relief soon.

I having been having problems with pain in my foot, its really bad and when it happens I can't walk. it really seems like gout but I am a vegetarian, I have been avoiding legumes and other foods known to cause gout, I do not drink beer, could there be other causes or could it be a different condition? It has been happening quite often these past few months...

I was recently diagnosed with gout and although I do have pain in my big toe (mainly left, but also some in right), I'm having more trouble with my fingers - they are where the pain is worst and where I've got some tophi. How common/uncommon is it to have gout more in the fingers than the toe? I know it can affect other joints other than teh big toe, but just not sure how common it is and if it makes it any more difficutl to treat?

My friend has had gout for five or six years with only minor 'episodes'. Recently he had a ruptured peroneal tendon and had surgery to repair that. When the surgeon did the surgery he said that it looked like 'cottage cheese' and that the gout had most likely weakened the tendon and caused the rupture. Has anyone had experience with this? Any ideas on how to help control the gout?
