a dr that I have never seen before told me that at my age, (74) that I was to old to have my knee scoped for arthritis. My knee has been hurting for 3 days, enough to get a cortisone shot. But I do not want a knee replacement...I mean really to old?

Other factors that can contribute to developing knee arthritis include trauma to the knee, meniscus tears or ligament damage, and fractures to the bone around the joint. I think, it is the trauma and ligament tear, that have contributed to arthritis in your case. If the arthritis in your case is rheumatic or due to any other cause that should be treated first to prevent all these symptoms.

Hello there, did your Dr happen to give you a cortisone shot for that knee? It can rapidly reduce the inflammation so I would ask if he hadn't to get one. Did he do any blood work to rule out rheumatoid arthritis? Are you taking any vitamin supplements like vitamin D or calcium? Vitamin D makes your muscles feel better, I take 1000 units a day of it and it helps immensely with the muscle pains. A good thing to do for your knee is doing some simple exercises.

He did an ultrasound and drew off some more fluid and gave him another cortizone shot. The first doctor drew the fluid from under his knee and the second drew it from his knee cap. It has been several weeks now and his pain is back he still has a little swelling but now both his knees hurt. He wears a brace on both his knees now. He has trouble getting up if he has to get down on the ground for something. We are not sure what to do now because both doctors has told him all his test look fine.

Hi, at this age the cause of knee pain are arthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, reactive arthritis, bursitis etc. As you don't have history of recent trauma, it is unlikely to be ligament or meniscus tear. Investigations like MRI, blood tests like ESR, RF, ANA etc are done to find out causes related to autoimmune diseases. Try cold compression, crepe bandage and pain killers like diclofenac etc.

The doctor gave me a steriod shot in the knee joint. I now have no pain. My right knee also has arthritis, have had surgery to remove cist on knee cap 7 yrs ago . Knee is now better. I recently had pain in right hip and numbness and tingling in thigh. Orthopedic surgeon diagnosed bursitis and I had a steriod shot in the right hip 2 wks ago. The pain is getting better. Have you tried steriod injections in the joint? This seems to help a lot.

thought I hyperexteneded my knee but now synvisc 1 shot may be the culprit. Waiting for xray results, wearing knee brace. Any thoughts?

I'm a 30 something yr. old woman and for the past month I have having chronic pain in my left thigh and knee. I don't recall falling down when the pain started occuring everyday. OTC pain meds aren't helping. There isn't any unexplained bruises.

I had knee surgery in May 09 which was 5 months ago and just was able to start walking alone but still limping alot..The surgery was to remove a cyst from the back of left knee and also the dr. drilled into the bone and tried to make a new patch of tissues form between the bones cause the cartiage is no longer there..The cyst was removed but the other did not work..My knee and leg stay swollen still and aches all the time..

30, with my gf and my knee got super tight and after another step a SHARP pain shot through it and I nearly fell. We had only gone about 4 miles and had warmed up properly and stretched, the weather was warm so I wasn't cold or tight when it happened. I have seen my medical department and they suspected ITB or Meniscus problems. However after about 2 months of aggressive icing, stretching, and physical therapy I can now run LESS and less before the pain comes back.

The joint pain started about four months ago and my GP gave me steroids and nsaids which stopped the pain for about a week . Then I tried a cortisone shot in the knee and again pain gone for about a week. Now after nsaids again for a week . This time allupurinal before I stop the Nsaids . I do have a high uric acid level also high liver enzymes .

Hello! Welcome to the Arthritis Forum! I don't really have an answer for you, but someone will jump in to answer this for you! There are many people here with many varieties of arthritis, and many different stories to share, it just sometimes takes a few days, with the holidays and that all just now settling down. I would imagine it would depend a lot on the type of arthritis you have/had as to weather is could still be affecting the area.

I have arthritis through out my body. 15 months ago I had total knee replacement, now I have pain there. There is a sore spot on either side of the knee, sometimes the pain wakes me. My ortho did x-rays last wk and cannot find any reason for the pain. Have any of you had this same experience?

Well, I eat both, so did not expect a reaction. Would have rather had the cortisone shot to the knee! And they put that stuff in both of my knees at the same time. I have further read that you should do only one knee at a time. Beginning to believe that my doctor is not too experienced in the administering of this injection. He is an orthopedist though. Oh, and I have had severe watering of the eyes and vision problems, too.

3) I have also read it is possible to have mono-arthritis as the only sign of DGI. Assuming my tendonitis was not DGI, Could this current swollen knee problem by gonococcal arthritis or is 87 days to late for onset?

Right before Thanksgiving 2010 I received another cortisone shot in my left knee and one in my right knee. Fast forward to May 2011. I went to see a doctor that works at the same clinic I work at. I got two shots in each knee during separate appointments. He also ordered an MRI of my right knee and wouldn't order an MRI of my left knee even though I asked. The results of that MRI showed a possible 50% ACL tear along with "water on the knee.

Though she was all fine till last month. Then she has a minor accident where she injured her right knee. Since then it has swollen and she can not walk. Doctors said that she has Peripheral Arthritis as well. They gave her one Steroid injection and started her on sulfasalazine (1gm per day). Her pain has gone, but she still can not walk. She feel weak and stiffness while walking. It is 6 weeks since her accident and 2 week since her medication started.

The ANET testing showed that it affected my skeletal muscles, joint tissues and body fluids. No wonder it felt like he shot battery acid into my knee and lower leg. I do not recommend them, especially if you go to a doctor who refuses to see that allergic reactions are a reality.

I had 2 knee scopes for a torn meniscus and arthritis in a 10 week pain span. Still cannot walk with out a cane, can't work because my job is physical, literally have been at home for 5 months. I had a TKR 18 months ago. I'm not exatly a poster child for successful joint replacement, to be sure. I'm considerably overweight & I know this doesn't help matters. I also have severe fibromyalgia. I haven't known a pain free day in years. Thank goodness, the TKR did away with the terrible pain of arthritis, but I am still hurting for many & varied other reasons. I have a very noticeable limp & need a cane unless I'm barefoot, for some odd reason.

I'm am 29 years old...and a few days after taking the depo provera shot I started experiencing extreme joint pain...so bad I can barely get up in morning. Its in my elbows, knees,top of my feet,ankles, wrist.They feel so achy and sore I can pick up any thing..barely even walk. The only thing that has helped with it is taken ibuprofen!! But the soreness is still there! The doctors claim the depo shot shouldnt b causing this...
