Avatar f tn Hello- After many, many acupuncture treatments, last week I had a treatment for knee arthritis in which I felt excruciating pain with a needle insertion below my knee and my foot kicked up simultaneously. Four days later, I have increasing burning and electricity pains radiating down the front of my shin along the tops of my feet. It also feels as though someone were slicing into my ankle or a very, very bad ankle sprain.
11446628 tn?1418298480 You may not have rheumatoid arthritis which is an autoimmune disorder, but your osteoarthritis can have flare ups. At the moment it appears that you are having a flare up (acute). Chronic means long lasting. You can have a condition that is chronic that may not be acute. Your doctor can send you for xrays to see how the osteoarthritis in your knee is at the moment and compare this to previous results.
1069378 tn?1255215132 , but my knee never healed and in fact the pain has spread to other parts of my knee and my knee swells very easily when I do anything (upright, sitting, sleeping). The MRI shows that my lateral meniscus is torn again and x-rays show I have osteoarthritis. One of the orthopedic surgeons I saw suggested trying Synvisc injections before resorting to surgery, especially since the surgery will involve removing the rest of my lateral meniscus which will in turn worsen the osteoarthritis.
1282285 tn?1271424395 To God be the glory! There is medicine that can help with arthritis pain. I take prescribed ibuprofen myself for my jaw arthritis. However, anything, like celebrex I've read is even worse, can affect your stomach that is in that NSAID category. I think I remember maybe it was relafen they said wasn't as bad for the stomach but I think that drug gave me a headache.
Avatar m tn There are so many models available. The clinic I went to gave me a hinged knee brace by futuro. I would like something to protect my knee from further injury and keep pain and swelling down. I had one brace before that got real tight when I sat down, I really did not like that. Thanks very much an have a great day!
Avatar m tn m a 28 year old male, and I have a question about NSAIDs for chronic pain. I use ibuprofen daily most of the time for a torn meniscus in my left knee that I had surgery on and I have arthritis too. I also take it for a herniated disc (L-5) and ankle pain. I have acid reflux disease and esophagus problems as well. Is it safe to take all this Ibuprofen with the stomach problems I have, or should I talk to my Dr. about possibly prescribing another medication?
634733 tn?1316625992 Hi Guys, Just thought this might be interesting for one or two of you. I went to see my neuro physio yesterday and ended up having acupuncture! Yes that’s right from the neuro physio!! I started telling her about the problems I have been having. I am so sick of all the pain and feel my body is compensating and throwing everything out. She got me to show her on a line from no pain to worst pain I have had in my life where all my pain was.
Avatar f tn Hello all- After many, many acupuncture treatments, last week I had a treatment for knee arthritis in which I felt excruciating pain with a needle insertion below my knee and my foot kicked up simultaneously. 634733 tn?1316625992 I have minimal arthritis in my right knee that was identified in the arthroscopy, the chances are I have small amounts elsewhere because of my age and my tendency to it BUT the main cause of my pain is MS related due to weak muscles, false signals and walking difficulties. Now this is the interesting bit we all know that pain causes stress so here's the catch 22: the cycle is then set up of pain - stress - more pain and so forth.
Avatar m tn Flex your leg at the knee, place your hands on your shin and start to pull your knee toward your chest until you feel tight. Start with the right leg and hold the stretched position for 20-30 seconds, then repeat with your left leg. 2-3 repetitions especially when you’re just starting out with stretching are plenty for this stretch.
Avatar m tn Acupuncture therapy ,What I said it intensive acupuncture, general acupuncture is not powerful enough to heal this problem. I have no idea who is best, You can start with your primary care physician, who can help you determine your next step or who you need to see. It would seem that you would be best with a referral to medical acupuncturist ( Dr do acupuncture). Good luck!
Avatar m tn Hello... I'm 30 years old and have been diagnosed with "Moderate patellar chondrosis with deep cartilage fissuring, surface irregularity and subchondral marrow changes especially involving the inferior aspect". I also have "patella alta". I have always been active and now cannot even run due to the pain. After receiving an MRI and consultation I was basically told there is nothing that can be done and to take an anti inflammatory for the pain.
Avatar f tn I did not have a knee replacement, but arthroscopic surgery to the knee. A long time later, I told the surgeon how that knee got all red and hot (post being in hot water) versus the other one. He was surprised it was happening that far out from the surgery but told me it was bone healing that was causing it. It is great your mobility is excellent. If you possibly can, I recommend you get to your local gym with a heated pool and walk around in it a few times a week.

Avatar m tn Last year I got septic arthritis in my left knee. Had 10 bouts of surgery on my knee to washout the knee. I still get alot of pain in my knee. I had had a recent MRI which no one can explain to me satisfactorely. Hope you can be of help. The MRI states: "Severe degeneration of the medial and lateral menisci noted with fraying of the articular surface and inner free edge of the menisci. No ligament injury is seen.
Avatar n tn I saw some years back on tv a report of a scientific study which proved the needles put in the proper places (versus placebo needles put in the wrong places) resulted in help with knee arthritis pain for a significant percentage of patients. But of course, it generally can take awhile for acupuncture to start giving better pain relief if it is going to work. You might see if moist or dry heat packs or ice help with the symptoms.
Avatar n tn You can try conservatively with DMARDs, NSAIDs, narcotic drugs, steroid injections, hyaluronidase injections, physiotherapy, acupuncture etc and if this does not work finally you need a knee replacement surgery. Take care!
Avatar m tn developed severe knee pain during a (3mile)walk (Iam relatively fit) was x-rayed not torn or broken referred to family physician who at 6 weeks prescribed anti inflamatory and pain management... (ineffective) and advised if not resolved to come back in a month..... is this appropriate treatment, I can only walk short distances have trouble with stairs AND am missing work.. advise please and Thankyou!
Avatar n tn Other factors that can contribute to developing knee arthritis include trauma to the knee, meniscus tears or ligament damage, and fractures to the bone around the joint. I think, it is the trauma and ligament tear, that have contributed to arthritis in your case. If the arthritis in your case is rheumatic or due to any other cause that should be treated first to prevent all these symptoms.
Avatar f tn I have had an MRI (that was normal according to WCB), MANY rounds of intensive Physiotherapy, a scope in 2008 (they removed my shredded cartilage and said everything else was fine) which took me 3 months to recover from, synvisk injections, cortisone in my spine and knee, acupuncture, reiki, aquatherapy, periods of extreme rest, periods of extreme activity, OTC pain relievers, nerve blockers, anti depressants, cymbalta, sleeping pills, and the inevitable narcotic pain relievers.
Avatar n tn Though she was all fine till last month. Then she has a minor accident where she injured her right knee. Since then it has swollen and she can not walk. Doctors said that she has Peripheral Arthritis as well. They gave her one Steroid injection and started her on sulfasalazine (1gm per day). Her pain has gone, but she still can not walk. She feel weak and stiffness while walking. It is 6 weeks since her accident and 2 week since her medication started.
Avatar n tn Yes, some dogs tend to hide their pain. Our Akita has arthritis and hid it for some time. I think you can get pet insurance or possibly care from the ASPCA to get treatment for your dog. I'm in Canada so I don't know what is used in the USA for dog arthritis but our dog took Adequan "injections" which stops the arthritis and can even reverse it. It worked great on her. She took Medicam for pain, when necessary. It's up to you and your vet what to give to your dog.
