Common Questions and Answers about Army concussion blood test

concussion

Avatar m tn I am in the ARMY and in mid February I passed out while doing PT. Everyone who saw it said my legs didn't cave they locked and I ended up falling straight backwards. I hit my head and ended up with a skull fracture, and bruising and bleeding on the brain. Before I passed out my chest felt like it was on fire and then I got light headed and the next thing I knew I was sitting up from the floor. Now everytime I get worked up I feel like I am going to pass out.
Avatar m tn Concussion may appear like intoxication but any good doctor would be able to know the difference by just doing a blood test! You can definitely be drunk with a concussion ... again a decent physician is going to ferret out which is which! Take care ....
Avatar f tn I had a metal iron shelf fall on my head at work 4 months ago, got a concussion and ended up with post traumatic concussion syndrome. He needs to go to the doctor!!!!! He needs to have a CT or MRI to check for headbleeding then he needs to see a neurologist and let them run test!!!!! It's so important. They told me if I hit my head again I'll have permanent damage.
Avatar f tn However, yes, MRI should be done to rule out brain injury as the cause. Stress due to concussion and brain injury can also be the cause. Also get your blood pressure checked. Take care!
Avatar f tn Has your doctor tested to see if a rise in blood pressure aggravates or causes the return of your concussion symptoms. Your recovery time generally depends upon this assessment. A recent study conducted by the University of Buffalo’s Concussion Management Clinic suggests that cardio vascular exercise performed on a equipment that does not involve a lot of impact or bouncing such as a stationary bike, elliptical or treadmill can speed the recovery process. One of the lead researchers Dr.
Avatar m tn The incident that caused the concussion can often be accompanied by structural damage to brain tissue, as well as the rupture of blood vessels, which can cause a bleed. This is what Drnee refers to as underlying brain injury. The bleed may be slow and continue for several days, or even weeks. A concussion is a specific syndrome secondary to a blow to the head. Impacts to the skull that produce a concussion can certainly cause death, if not quickly addressed in an appropriate medical facility.
651681 tn?1384872629 This is a serious test that is done, people can pass out. My own daughter went into shock during that test. (she did have a serious form of cardiomyopathy at the time). Chances are that the concussion had nothing to do with this happening to your son. This is a heart blood pressure issue. A Cardiologist would be the person to see if you wanted this test done; they are in the room during the test. What your son is describing when everything is black along with spots is pre-syncope.
Avatar f tn and was hit in the head from other team mates going for the ball,he was suppossably knocked out for at least 5 min or more, and when he came too no one was around and he didnt even know what had happen to him,he just remebers gettting up from off the ground, when my father went to pick him up from school he told me that my son was looking sorta gazed at him complaining that his head hurts bad and that he couldnt see good, now at the school function there was no adults around at no part of the prac
Avatar f tn After getting hit on the head, you can certainly have a concussion. There are multiple grading scales for concussion. The American Academy of Neurology scale is graded on a scale of 1 to 3, where grade 3 has any loss of consciousness. Grade 2 is with any symptoms lasting more than 15 minutes. If there is any loss of consciousness or alteration in mentation or neurological deficit, labeling the injury as traumatic brain injury would also be appropriate.
Avatar m tn I am in the Army and I went to their health clinic and they had me go to the lab take urin and blood test. Then she called later and said I was positive and no I have to schedual an appt to a provider on my army base. I will try to get you the test results as soon as possible. Thanks again.
10506901 tn?1431350757 Hi and welcome to the Migraines & Headaches Community. How do you know you are low on iron? You need a blood test to tell. I can't tell you the cause but I can tell you that it does sound like a typical migraine. Try these tips and if it is not better it a couple of days then you need to see your doctor as you have already let it go on for quite awhile. 1. There are several symptoms of migraines and what causes the pain of a migraine is the blood vessels in your brain become dilated.
Avatar n tn Hi! Brain injury can cause seizure even in presence of normal EEG and these respond to anticonvulsant therapy. The other possibility is that your son has non epileptic seizures. It would be worthwhile to check your son's blood sugar and serum sodium level at the time of seizure attack. Generally low sodium or blood sugar precipitates it. Another possibility is brain ischemia or low oxygen. Another component of non epileptic seizures is psychological. Post traumatic stress is a possibility.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question. After head injury or impact such kind of symptoms like loss of smell or taste and other symptoms may be common due to extent of damaged part of brain and may remain symptomatic or progress in future. Although any sure success cure can not be assured in such cases, but symptomatic relief or it may decrease with period of time, physiotherapy, avoiding any triggering factors and life style modification help you in certain extent.
Avatar f tn Immediately I had a headache, I saw halos around lights, and I felt like I was in a dream state. I went to a concussion specialist who performed an impact test on me and diagnosed me with a concussion. A couple weeks later I got cleared but soon after I started experiencing severe sensitivity to light and my vision seemed to worsen. I had been given glasses to use while driving for distance and now I have to wear them all the time or I can’t see.
Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
Avatar f tn Was treated for seizure disorders for about a year in a half and also had vision theraphy for a year in a half due to concussion from fall. However, after that which was 7 years ago have been off medicine except for priolec. So anyways, I was told I have low blood pressure. My problems have been for over a year, tired, (went from being extremely hyper person/ single mom with 3 kids running non stop and living off of 4 hours a sleep.) and feeling like I was stopping breathing at night.
Avatar f tn He seemed concerned about that and ordered more test. He did a caloric test, VNG and some others. I also have had problems with my memory and feeling like I don't understand what someone is asking me. I had trouble thinking of names or words when trying to talk to someone. When I first when back to work everything looked like it was bouncing when I walked down the hall and I was seeing double vision when I looked at the computer (one dark line and one lighter above it).
Avatar m tn t walking straight because I was dizzy. he said he was very sure I had a concussion and so he sent me to the ER for a ct scan. After the ct scan, the NP said although It didn't show a concussion I do have one and it showed sinusitis. Ive had sinusitis a few times before and it's never made me nauseated or that dizzy.
12128836 tn?1423574148 The statement that "in emergency medicine a concussion is not very serious" is absurd and incorrect A concussion is due to a blow on the head. The brain moves and actually displaces. In all concussions there is swelling. The swelling in turn impinges on blood flow, which in turn causes necrosis (death) of brain cells. In general there is a window-of-opportunity to administer drugs to reduce the swelling. There can be damage without the presence of nausea or of unconsciousness.
Avatar f tn My child has had a headache for months folowing a sore throat, ear ache, cold and then a head injury and mild concussion. The Doctor said it was sinusitus. Blood tests were fine except for an ASOT of >400. This was treated by antibiotics. A later CAT scan showed maxillary sinusitus but the ENT specialist said this did not explain his frontal headache. His ASOT is now >900. He is sick and tired and I am worried. Any clues?
Avatar f tn How does one cope with your brother going into the army with our stressing out im 19 weeks and 3 days pregnant. Brother is a senior in high school but as soon as he graduate they can ship him off.
1215767 tn?1266433412 my mom then talked to him about it and decided he was talking about army men and what he sees them doing. does this make since to anyone. should i be concerned ?
Avatar f tn Should I join the army 6weeks after I give birth to my baby.. I already have a 2 year old son as well... and I am a single mother.
Avatar n tn Last Sunday I was running around the lake and slipped on ice - landed on the back of my head. I was taken to the hospital and they kept me for 30 hours. They did a ct scan and said no skull fracture, but I had the equivalent of a basebal on the back of my head and they said that I had the same amount of swelling on the inside. So a concussion and something about a hemotoma (sp?) Anyway, I can't really hear out of my left ear and I can't smell/taste anything.
