Avatar f tn I have Hosimoto's and I've taken Armour Thyroid since 2000 and will never take anything else. Armour Thyroid is all natural - not synthetic. The doctor who first put me on it only prescribed Armour. He didn't like the long term affects that could be caused by taking synthetics. I had surgery in 2002 and 2/3'ds of my thyroid removed. The surgeon wanted to take me off Armour and put me on Synthroid but I wouldn't let him.
Avatar n tn Many people on Armour take about 2/3 to 3/4 of their daily med in the morning, then take the remainder mid day. I hope your doctor did not tell you to take it before bed. Taking Armour at night is not advised and kind of pointless really. Thyroid hormone gives you the energy you need in your daytime hours that untreated Hypothyroid people lack. Thyroid hormone T3 is more active than just T4 and it can keep you from sleeping at night.
Avatar f tn It has to build up in your body over several weeks, and the T4 basically floats around in your body until it is needed, at which point it has to be converted to T3. Some of us who are very sensitive to levo try to keep the daily doses as even as possible, but I've read that that may not be all that necessary if you are not overly sensitive. Have you discussed your sleep issues with your doctor? Keeping TSH < .
1369218 tn?1282423884 s system, so someone who took one grain of Armour in the past is now being forced to take a higher dosage in order to compensate. Some Armour patients are also crushing their pills to a fine powder, as that helps with absorbency. I will be asking my endo to switch me to Armour, simply because I've discovered a lactose and corn allergy and my Synthroid has lactose and my Cytomel has corn.
Avatar n tn She's never had to take meds at school before. I talked to the nurse and she said she was doing fine and came in happily to take her pill right on time. Her teacher seems very sweet and fun. We will have to meet ASAP to make sure she understands the "complicated world of thyroid!" I'm so glad you got in touch with Stella. She really has a good grasp on all this. I'm still learning, but I'm getting smarter everyday! Ha!
Avatar n tn I think he needs to try Armour Thyroid. What can happen if he takes the medication when having all the symptoms but tests out having a normal thyroid? Would this hurt his health in any way? If so, how? Thanks.
Avatar f tn t pay much attention when he handed it to me, but when I brought it to the Pharmacy I asked what it was written for. Is it me or is that conversion wrong? I was thinking I probably take 1.25 gains? Can anyone help clarify for me. My pharmacy has phoned the Dr. and his office to date has not returned the call.
Avatar m tn As medication doses are increased the production of both TSH and natural thyroid hormone is diminished. Only when TSH is suppressed enough to no longer stimulate natural thyroid hormone production, will serum thyroid levels reflect further increases in thyroid medication. A good thyroid doctor will treat a hypothyroid patient clinically (for symptoms), by testing and adjusting Free T4 and Free T3 as needed to relieve symptoms.
1797743 tn?1389213685 Thank you so much, Barb. That was my plan as the lab I goes to opens early (6:30am) on the weekends. I just got confused when my doctor told me to take it right before having them drawn...ugh! I don't really want to go search for another doctor at this point. This is my third Endo and my third primary care trying to get someone who knows about thyroid disorders. At least I can be happy that the lab slip said TSH, T3 & T4 free! Thanks again!
Avatar f tn Is Armour Thyroid a suitable treatment when you are diagnosed Hashimotos thyriditis hypothyrodism?
Avatar f tn In most cases, patients need to find their best time to enable absorption of the meds with the fillers and in thyroid hormone medication when they will be able to respond the best to their medication. Its a tracking mode and some patients do well at night taking it, some during the day. Some need to take it in intervals, some all at once. This tracking usually happens after someone has become optimal through time on the medication.
Avatar m tn I, probably, had to tell you my thyroid history first. A year and a half ago I was a healthy person living without any pills. It so happened that during a check up they found a noddle on my thyroid. The result of the biopsy was: "Suspicious for papillary carcinoma". The surgery which I had last February showed that the noddle was much smaller than they had told me (1/2sm instead of 1.5) and it was benign.
798555 tn?1292787551 Should be about the same price as Armour, give or take a few dollars. It is working great for my daughter after 10 weeks! , and not expensive at all!
Avatar f tn I am new to thyroid problems, and it looks like I will be having to have my thyroid removed. I am just wondering if after it is removed, can you take Armour instead of the synthetic drugs that are prescribed? Thank You!
Avatar n tn Maybe it would be best to wait till next week and get your true picture of blood levels and go from there. I know the end of next week seems like years away, been there, but if he is having you raise your T4, there must be no sign of overmedication, that would be a concern. I really think in all my reading, Armour would work for nearly all, IF the Doc's knew how to administer it.
Avatar f tn Hi Marigaux! Yes, try the Armour, but also be aware that you may be one of the people, like me, who needs more T3, and therefor must add Cytomel to the Armour dosage. Armour stopped working for me this week, and I figured out on my own by research, that I could possibly need T3, and started taking Cytomel 25 mg Am and 25 mg PM with my 3 grains of Armour, and IMMEDIATELY felt better. This could be your situation, as well.
Avatar f tn post-opreration my thyroid level plummeted and my Dr. had to take me off the 60 mg. and now I am only on 30 mg and STILL I get the itching. to say I am frustrated is putting it mildly. I have been on the Thyroid blog with Mary Shoman and I see where others are also having problems but what are we supposed to do when we DO NOT want the articificial thyroid RXs the Drs are so quick to push.
Avatar f tn You could try Armour Thyroid, or as an option, just go to a T4 and T3 generic, at the same amounts, or close, to what you were previously getting in your NP Thyroid.
Avatar f tn I was diagnoised with hypo thyroid about 5 years ago and started taking Armour. Three years later my doctor determined it was Hashie's and changed my script to Synthroid and Cytomel because my auto-immune system was attacking the Armour as it was my own thyroid hormones. I felt much better on Armour but my TSH kept switching from hypo to hyper. It is still doing this on the Synthroid. My symptoms do not mirror my current .06 TSH, still tired.
Avatar m tn 4 The doctor told me to stop with armour thyroid bc my thyroid must be working by itself . The anxiety stopped almost completelly with Prozac which i will take for 2 months only . Thank you again .
324691 tn?1302551842 How soon can I eat after taking Armour? When is the best time to take a multi-vitamin that has iron and calcium in it? I've read that iron and calcium can block the absorption of Armour Thyroid. When is the best time to take a 600 mg calcium supplement, as I take that too? Thank you for your time.
Avatar f tn I am actually on Naturethroid, not Armour, and have just started to split the dose, and to take it 1/2 hour after breakfast and 1/2 hour after lunch. And I have started taking my Unithroid mid-morning away from food - instead of right after my coffee like I was doing. So I will see what differences this makes. I am on 1 1/4gn Naturethroid and 25mcg Unithroid.
Avatar f tn When I take my thyroid test ft3 ft4 tsh should I hold off on taking my Armour till after the test?
