Common Questions and Answers about Armour thyroid unavailable

armour-thyroid

Avatar n tn I am one of those (rare?) people who do well on Armour thyroid. In many forums, people complain about it being useless since the reformulation and switch to Erfa. However, I briefly tried Erfa as well and did not like it; it tended to make me hyper and I had to multi-dose it, whereas Armour can be taken once in the morning without problems.
Avatar f tn i live in the west indies where armour thyroid is unavailable. my doctor recently prescribed it for me but i was uanable to use my local prescription in CVS in Miami. Can anyone give me a suggestion as to how to go about getting armour thyroid?
Avatar m tn Patient is on Armour thyroid, which contains T3 and typically when T3 med is taken TSH is low or suppressed, and when on a desiccated replacement, FT4 is often low, because of the high level of T3 in the desiccated replacement.
Avatar n tn I am taking 150 mg of Armour which brings my TSH very low but I still have low thyroid symptoms, EXTREME fatigue and continued weight gain. Is it possible that I have a conversion problem that makes it unavailable? Does your body have enough ability to convert T4 to T3 without a thyroid?
Avatar n tn ve never posted anywhere before, but finding out that I was no longer able to get my Armour Thyroid, got attention. I never knew that there was a problem or a change for that matter, until this weekend, when the Pharmacy said they couldn't get it anymore. I never heard of the change or for that matter the shortage from my doctor, the pharmacy or even Forest Labs. So I'm a little upset at the fact we the patients have to do the jumping up and down.
Avatar m tn I have had acid reflux very badly when I got back into being hypo, during the time when Armour Thyroid became unavailable. As soon as available again, I went back on Armour and in just a couple of days, the acid reflux was gone.
Avatar f tn I went away from Armour when it became unavailable. Switched to Synthroid and Cytomel . Never felt real comfortable with the two. Can't explain why. Switched back to Armour when it was available again and I'm happy with it.
499534 tn?1328704178 I am going to a new doc on 6/9, hoping she can fix me and my thyroid. Definately going to try Armour and get away from this Synthroid. It has been a downward spiral since I have been on it, along with the nodules that come and go. Is anyone floating in my aweful boat??
168348 tn?1379357075 When you say you switched to a glandular formula, are you talking about an NDT type like Armour Thyroid or Nature Throid? Also, what dosage of Levo were you taking? What type of NDT and dosage are you currently taking. Please also post your thyroid related test results from before and after the switch in meds.
798555 tn?1292787551 Was anyone that was on the reformulated Armour and had re-occurring hypo symptoms able to resolve the symptoms by just increasing their dose before it was unavailable by August? I ask this since I am able to find some again. So was it the corn startch that made the new formulation crumble when splitting and also made it impossible to take sublingialy? Besides this, some people that swallow the tablets noted increased hypo symptoms.
Avatar f tn was diagnosed as hypothyroid TSH 7.5 T3 85 T4 85. Started taking Armour Thyroid 15mcg per day. I have lost so much hair but do see regrowth. Help!!
Avatar m tn 5 cm in Feb. Biopsy in Feb of 4 nodules was negative. I was put on Armour Thyroid 60 mg 7 yrs ago for suppression therapy. Annual ultrasounds showed little to no growth until Feb 14 when there was a "slight" increase in size of 2. However, I used a different facility and tech for this last ultrasound. Last year, my doctor lowered my dose to 45 mg as my TSH was on the active side. In Feb, my doc started lowering more as my TSH was .0700. Retest blood 6 wks later. TSH went to .0564.
Avatar f tn //www.medhelp.org/posts/Thyroid-Disorders/Lab-Results-on-Armour---T4-Conversion/show/2048950#post_9694718 Your thyroid gland produces both T4 and T3, in a ratio of about 20:1 as I recall. Most of that hormone is bound to protein molecules and thus inactive biologically. Only small portions are free of protein, thus they are called Free T4 or Free T3. The ability of your thyroid gland to produce hormone is diminished due to the Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.
Avatar n tn I'm new taking Armour so I have no idea how it used to be but I've read of people not liking it now compared to how it was before it was reformulated. I was wondering if this is still true. Have they improved whatever the problem was or could folks who have before and after experience with it share thier review of Armour?
Avatar f tn None of the endocrinologists were willing to consider the merits of dessicated thyroid treatment or discuss its potential. My enquiries show that dessicated thyroid is unavailable in India as of now. I wish to find out if it's possible to obtain it in India. Will appreciate any help/feedback.
Avatar f tn Has anyone found they feel better on synthroid and cytomel instead of armour? I saw a new doc today who wasn't very helpful with adrenals or hormones, but at least she knew not to pay attention to TSH and suggested I switch back to synthroid/cytomel since I haven't been feeling any better on compounded armour. I just wonder if natural isn't always the best for everyone.
1018337 tn?1251567540 I have tried synthroid years ago and it didn't help at all, infact I was more tired, so I took myself off and haven't been on meds for years. I just started with a new GP and we spoke about armour thyroid meds, I have started, it has been about 1 1/2 weeks. Don't really feel a change yet. Wondering how other people feel about the armour and your experiences.
Avatar n tn TSH will look slightly hyper, Free T4 should me at least mid normal range, and Free T3 should look mid normal to high normal range (some even go a little above the high normal range) Anything below these and you are not optimal. I am sorry to say that your doctor is leaving you hypo and feeling sick. My goodness even the new range of TSH .30-3.0 shows you hypo! Go find a thyroid specialist so you can get to feeling better! Please do not settle for being left sick......
Avatar f tn Hi, Which one do you think is better, synthroid which is artificial hormone or armour thyroid which is bioidentical. Is anyone taking armour thyroid? Can anyone compare it's effect.
Avatar n tn Hard to have any suggestions without more info from you. What dosage of Armour Thyroid daily? What are these severe symptoms? Please post your thyroid test results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Armour thyroid with satisfactory results. Unfortunately, I can't find a pharmacy that has it in stock. My M.D. has suggested that I begin taking Synthroid and I am scared that my symptoms may return. I am taking 90mg of Armour and my prescription is for 150mcg of Synthroid. If I have no choice and must change, how do you suggest I make the change.
Avatar f tn First - thyroid supplementation is for an underactive thyroid, bot an overactive thyroid. Both Armour Thyroid and levothyroxine are thyroid supplements - levothyroxine is T4, which is the form of hormone produced by the thyroid gland, and which is converted to the active T3 form. Armour Thyroid contains both T4 and T3. Some patients don't seem to convert T4 to T3 quite the way they should and this may explain why some feel better on Armour Thyroid.
Avatar f tn So you need to talk to the doctor about getting tested for Free T3, and make sure they do that every time you go in for tests. Also ask for an increase of the Armour to 60 mg daily. A good thyroid doctor will treat a hypothyroid patient clinically by testing and adjusting Free T4 and Free T3 as needed to relieve symptoms, without being constrained by resultant TSH levels. Symptom relief should be all important, not just test results.
Avatar f tn i was on natural thyroid from Thailand but heard armour thyroid formula change back to how they used to have it. i have been taking the armour for 3 months and i feel aweful. is anyone else having these issues or should i just switch back to the thailand one?
