1398693 tn?1343684738 Thank you for you comment I hunted on line and I found 3 natural Thyroid Therapy Westhroid & Nature-Throid & Armour Thyroid all 3 are FDA regulated so you have to have a doctor perscribe them. After getting sick off the the synthetic thyroid pills, I did a little digging and found that I am not the only one to get sick from the synthetic thyroid hormone.
Avatar n tn I posted a couple weeks ago in regard to my having been over-replaced with Armour thyroid, which brought my T3 level up to more than double the highest normal value (higest normal was about 450 and my result was over 900). I believe it is very possible that I've been over-treated for years, rather than months and is why I am asking this question. Thank you!
Avatar n tn Hello! I'm sorry to hear that you daughter's TSH is sooo low. I had a TSH of 28 about 10 weeks ago and at that time I changed from Synthroid to Armour. I am pleased with Armour so far, and am waiting for my blood test results to see where they are now. I can tell you that once I started taking Armour, I felt a whole lot better, so it must be working.
Avatar m tn 150 armour thyroid, for over a year... been on armour for 4 years labs are still whacky free t4 .56 low free t3 3.26 High tsh 1.03 normal ? testosterone is low 1.24 Low 1.75-7.81 Estrogen total serum 119.4 which is high as the range for upper limit was 115.
Avatar f tn Therefore I´m getting all the more convinced that I would rather use Armour Thyroid instead. But I have a question about Armour due to the fact that I have Hashimotos. I have caught information from many sources (books and internetsources) that the natural porcine hormone extracts in Armour "feeds" the TPO-antibodies and thus encreae the antibody titer. Is this true or is it only a myth? If Armour encreases the antibody titer I wouldn´t dare to ask my doctor to prescribe Armour.
Avatar n tn My friend has hypothyroidism and has a family history of others in family not responding to synthroid, only to armour. she is currently at 0.275 mcg and is still showing low thyroid levels. She is having terrible hot flashes and sweats. Her doctor refuses to try her on armour even for a month to see if she responds to it. Is 0.275 a pretty high dose? How can she get her doctor to listen to her or how can we find a doctor who will give her the armour? We live in Portland, Or.
Avatar n tn It took me a long time to get used to thyroid medication. I have to take it, because I have hasimoto's disease. It made me grit my teeth, clench my fists, my heart felt like it was beating out of my chest sometimes. Worse with coffee. I needed (and still need) Ambien to get a good night's rest. It made me really mean-I have some friends that still won't talk to me- but this was with ANY thyroid med, and eventually (it seriously took 9 months) I got used to it and felt a lot better.
Avatar f tn s, antibodies must mean something.......exactly what do they mean? Is my immune constantly fighting my thyroid and could the Armour play a part in that?
Avatar n tn Armour is a T3/T4 combination, where synthroid is only T4, with the idea that the body converts T4 to T3. And Armour is a natural form, it's derived primarily from pig thyroid. I have been taking Armour for almost 3 years. There have been issues lately with availability, and if you contact Stella5349 on this forum, she can share more on that. Or, go on the "Save Natural Thyroid" page on Facebook, where you can find a ton of info on the shortages.
Avatar f tn Hi! I am a 30 year old female, and I've been on Armour for about a year. Before I started Armour, I had severe cold spells, insomnia, weight gain (particularly thighs and hips), overall "puffiness", constipation, and bloating. I also had very little appetite and felt full really fast. I started with 15 mg. I also was diagnosed with estrogen dominance and low functioning adrenals.
Avatar f tn m pretty knowledgeable on thyroid disease at this point. I actually take Armour thyroid because it contains both T3 and T4 so I don't just get the storage hormone like Synthroid or other T4 drugs. I actually have had all my docs test my Reverse T3 and it is higher but I can't take synthetic thyroid medications so when they put me on Cytomel (T3) and a time release T3 I actually got a lot worse.
Avatar f tn I am pretty new to the hypothyroid condition (I have autoimmune Hashimotos) I have read non-stop about thryoid conditions and the drugs prescribed for it over the last 3 months. From what I have read T4 only does not often alleviate the symptoms and many people spend years with their symptoms regardless of the dosage they are taking. The drugs may produce "blood test results" that doctors like to see - but the symptoms are still there or become worse. I needed T3, and I knew it.
Avatar f tn There are included a lot of outdated tests that are no longer used by most doctors, such as Total T4, Total T3, T3 uptake, and Free Thyroxine Index. You could better eliminate those and use the Free T4 and free T3 results. Looking at those it is no wonder that you are having hypo symptoms. Your Free T4 is actually below range, which we don't see very often. It should be at the middle of the range at minimum.
Avatar f tn I have been on Armour Thyroid for about 5 years now. It took about 1 year to get stable after RAI treatment. About a year ago, I started noticing changes in my health. Severe fatigue, difficulty concentrating, constipation, water retention, depression, weight gain, severly dry eyes, dry skin, etc. I just now found out that Armour has been reformulated. I have been so sick and busy trying to hold down a full-time job and raise 2 children that I haven't even had time to do any research.
Avatar n tn I am 54 and have had Graves Disease for 9 yrs now and have been on armour thyroid (90 gr) for almost 2 yrs now and every time I see my dr to get labs done, she wants to dose me according to the TSH. Today she called and said it had gone down again since January and wants me to reduce my dose to 60.. I am starting to gain (5 lbs since Jan) and I don't want to gain anymore and afraid if I decrease my dose I will gain another 5 lbs...
Avatar n tn I think you should post your numbers. TSH, Free T3 & Free T4. If your doc has upped your Synthroid and you have felt jumpy... T3, unless meticulously adjusted, will do the same, possibly more so. Also you mention that they've found a nodule on the remaining half of your thyroid. If it were me... I would take care of that issue first. Protocol is that if cancer is found in your thyroid, the entire thing comes out for the very reason you're describing now.
Avatar f tn and does not help with hair loss. i am on 90 grain armour and thyroid helping vitamins. I do not have an adrenal problem. I go to a doctor that is in to alternative therapy. He is also a chemist. Nature thyroid makes my resting heart rate over 100 and sythroid didnt work either.
Avatar n tn I have a yearly sonogram and biopsy for nodules.I am on armour thyroid 90,my hair is falling out and I have chronic Lyme disease. On a diffferent forum it was suggested that I have a RAIU scan.Do I have the right to insist on this test.I am lowering the armour to 60 in the meantime. Are these numbers suggestive of cancer? My dosage was increased in August , could that account for the lab results in Sept?
1602919 tn?1297874013 I was diagnosed with Hashimotos and started taking Armour thyroid 2 days ago. Since the night after I started taking it I have had horrible dry mouth, a burning pain in the back of my neck and up into my scalp, and headaches. I am on 30mgs and am only on my 2nd dose. Is this normal or should I be worried??
Avatar f tn But to answer your question regarding symptoms, yes, I have had Hypo symptoms since 2008 and my previous doctor prescribed Armour Thyroid replacement which I was on from 2009-2011. While on replacement therapy I was doing well. But when my insurance changed to an HMO in 2011 and I had to change doctors that’s when they had me stop the Armour for a month to allow my system to clear the Armour out and then they retested only my TSH.
Avatar n tn Perhaps the Armour is putting too much strain on your adrenals. Adrenal dysfunction must be addressed first before thyroid dysfunction is addressed. Situations like this should be monitored closely by your doctor/endocrinologist who may have to test you for adrenal fatigue/insufficiency. If this is not ruled out, then depression, anxiety, irritability and all the symptoms of adrenal fatigue will wreak havoc.
