Here is the information I received today from both RLC labs ( the makers of Naturethroid) and the FDA. YES!!! - I really talked to a live person with both of them:) Now remember - this is ONLY the most up to date information I have. It sounded a bit hairy on the phone with the FDA - but I'll explain below. First - both organizations were the best people I have spoken to in a long time. 1. RLC labs....... "There is NO ceasing of desiccated thyroid medication.

So this often requires the addition of a source of T3 to their med, or a switch to a desiccated type like Armour Thyroid, NatureThroid, NP Thyroid, etc. About the only difference among the T4 meds is the amount of fillers, binders, and dyes used in some. Some people find that certain brands affect them. As for what is a better medication, I expect that you will find it easier to reach target levels of FT4 and FT3 by using a desiccated type.

Actually My thyroid was removed almost 6 years ago because of nodules. I have been on armour thyroid 120 mg for almost 1 year.

In recent months I have been following the rumors of Armour thyroid medication being in short supply. Since I am an Armour thyroid patient I became concerned with the rumors and started conversing with other Armour patients and advocants of this medication. I know my medication dosages have not changed much from the original 60mg (1 grain) to 30 mg (1/2 grain) So far I am not having trouble getting my refills - but from what I am reading that could be an issue soon until 10/08.

And that many people are reporting that they do not feel as well. One woman said she changed from Armour to Nature Thyroid and she immediately felt better and stated taht others are reporting similar issues with Armour. I have noticed my wife has been having fatigue symptoms that are reminicent of when she was very Hypo. This despite her fairly recently having her Armour dosage increased (she is on 3 grains - 180 mgs per day split dose). So the rumor would fit what I have seen in my wife.

I finally found a pharmacy that makes compounded natural dessicated Thyroid medication that is supposedly like Armour Thyroid - they call it thyroid capsules. Still I miss Armour, it was much easier.

Please see my post about problems with Forest regarding Armour Thyroid, which they also had production problems with. I am considering filing a lawsuit. They may be getting these meds from overseas.

Armour is a T3/T4 combination, where synthroid is only T4, with the idea that the body converts T4 to T3. And Armour is a natural form, it's derived primarily from pig thyroid. I have been taking Armour for almost 3 years. There have been issues lately with availability, and if you contact Stella5349 on this forum, she can share more on that. I'm 60 and had my right thyroid removed 13 years ago. Will it EVER be possible to get off thyroid meds? Curerntly take Armour 45 mg. I've had insomnia and neck problems for over 12 years and wonder if there is a medication connection. (I previously took Synthroid 125 mg with same symtoms.

Whats the possible problems with using 2 different brands or a combo of compound plus a brand of natural thyroid short term to get over a shortage of a brand of thyroid being available???? any thoughts on this?

I have tried synthroid years ago and it didn't help at all, infact I was more tired, so I took myself off and haven't been on meds for years. I just started with a new GP and we spoke about armour thyroid meds, I have started, it has been about 1 1/2 weeks. Don't really feel a change yet. Wondering how other people feel about the armour and your experiences.

He read the detailed medical history I took on my iPad, asked me the type of questions I read about here, and went on to prescribe Armour thyroid (30 MG) to be taken twice a day (breakfast and lunch - why so close?).

TSH will look slightly hyper, Free T4 should me at least mid normal range, and Free T3 should look mid normal to high normal range (some even go a little above the high normal range) Anything below these and you are not optimal. I am sorry to say that your doctor is leaving you hypo and feeling sick. My goodness even the new range of TSH .30-3.0 shows you hypo! Go find a thyroid specialist so you can get to feeling better! Please do not settle for being left sick......

Hi, Which one do you think is better, synthroid which is artificial hormone or armour thyroid which is bioidentical. Is anyone taking armour thyroid? Can anyone compare it's effect.

Hard to have any suggestions without more info from you. What dosage of Armour Thyroid daily? What are these severe symptoms? Please post your thyroid test results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report.

I have been taking Armour thyroid with satisfactory results. Unfortunately, I can't find a pharmacy that has it in stock. My M.D. has suggested that I begin taking Synthroid and I am scared that my symptoms may return. I am taking 90mg of Armour and my prescription is for 150mcg of Synthroid. If I have no choice and must change, how do you suggest I make the change.
